  11. This is a superbly detailed motorcar mascot for Automobiles Minerva, and an exceptional study of Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom and the arts. This is an impressively large mascot standing 5-3/4" (146mm) high, hollow cast and chrome plated, and exhibiting perfect definition and symmetry. There were a number of variations of the Minerva mascot, this particular example being found on Model 12 CV automobiles. Marked just above the base is the signature of P. de Soete (1886-1948), widely regarded as Belgium's leading early 20th century sculptor. The mascot spent many years in a significant European collection, and is in remarkable condition without even the slightest blemish, damage or repair. A threaded fixing bolt is included.

This mascot is referenced in the most definitive books on the subject of vintage car mascots, Motoring Mascots of the World and Mascottes Automobiles, and represents an extremely rare find.  Additional photos available upon request.  $750.00.  Contact me via email at jj.lowell@hotmail.com.
