  1. Thanks friend, I went back and re-read all the posts. I'll be there early.
  2. When we were at the 2013 Buick Nationals at South Bend, the modifieds were way on the other side of the venue. It did not matter, we were not much interested in them. No offense to the owners, but we don't want to see a Buick Estate Wagon with a Blown Dragster engine in it. We like them stock. At another national for another club, the organizers literally begged the hard core types to go and look at the modifieds (which again were off and away from the concourse judged vehicles). I am afraid not many took the walk. And why would they? It is not what they came to the meet to see. To each his own. By the way, the hauler looks great.
  3. Because of work obligations, I will not be able to get to the Brookfield meet until early Saturday morning. Can the organizers hold on to my registration until I get there? And not assume that I am a "no show." ? I am not entering a Buick in the meet, my registration (#22) is just for me.
  4. He is very lucky that you have given him the car and you can watch him enjoy it. My parents gave me nothing but a hard time. Enjoy your time with your son and his new car.
  5. I have never named a car I have owned. Actually, I find it down right weird.
  6. Wish I could. I have no photos of my grandfather's cars (my mother refuses to share old photos with the rest of the family). I know he owned the following (brand new): 1940 Chevrolet 1947 Oldsmobile 1949 Lincoln 1950 Lincoln 1955 Mercury 1956 Mercury 1959 Mercury 1962 Oldsmobile 1965 Chevrolet 1969 Pontiac 1973 Pontiac 1974 Pontiac He owned several used cars in the 1930s and owned a service truck for his auto/truck/marine radiator business (late 1930s through early 1960s).
  7. I bought my muffler and exhaust hangars for my vintage Ford from this guy. They are repros of the original parts. http://www.joesantiqueauto.com/
  8. Intact, complete and running Ford Model A cars can be had for a modest price, especially 4dr sedans. And there are plenty to choose from. Unless you are skilled enough and have the time and space, you should stay away from any project car. Buy a Model A car that needs only gas and oil. LIke I said, they are cheap and plentiful.
  9. Not sure why we need locking gas caps in this day and age of $2 gas.
  10. My antique auto came with only one set of keys. As soon as I got my antique car home after purchasing it I had two sets of extra keys made immediately. I use those two sets and have preserved the original 1937 keys. Always make two extra sets of keys. . . .
  11. Can anybody provide information about a Cadillac Car Show that is to be held at Shirey Cadillac, Oak Lawn, IL on Saturday May 27, 2017? Any info greatly appreciated.
  12. A young person can get in the old car hobby for less than $10,000. Not a Thunderbird or 57 Chev convertible, but a decent old car. With room for friends and family. So the cost is not really too prohibitive. But if young folks are just not interested in old cars, then price is not the impediment.
  13. Exactly. I joined this club because it is "The Antique Automobile Club of America" not the Sometimes Antique Automobile Club of America. And if this club's rules and mission are watered down in an attempt to attract new members then that is the day that I will quit. (See the Vintage Chevrolet Club fiasco) I disagree with all of the OP's proposals and disagree with his premises.
  14. Thanks for the correction. Can you provide any other details? Engine? Other things that separate the Custom S from the other models? Thanks for the help.
  15. Best Scion? But no Best Fiat 500?
  16. If I remember correctly the 2x4 carb set up is Standard on the Seville, not an option. Have since learned that it was an option in 1957 but was standard in 1956.
  17. In 1969, my uncle purchased a brand new 1969 Pontiac LeMans Custom S. What differentiated the Custom S package from other LeMans option packages?
  18. Three people were killed by SUV at auto auction. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2017/05/03/billerica-car-auction-crash-lynnway-auto-auction/?ftag=MSF0951a18
  19. One would think that including the price in the ad would keep the dreamers from calling and wasting the seller's time. And the old saying "If you have to ask, then you can't afford it" is a bunch of nonsense. If one does not ask, then how will one know what to pay? Even really wealthy people need to ask the price--how on earth can they write the check if they don't know the price? The ads that state "full restoration" are to be taken with a grain of salt: "1936 Ford Coupe. Fully restored with 350/350 and Ford 9 inch; IFS, air, power windows, cruise, CD changer. Over $80,000 invested Must sell. $40,000. Serious Only." Amusing.
