  3. again------------------------the shaft turns clock wise-----the unit is on the right or radiator side the spring pushes the diaphragm in so the distributor is rotated counter clockwise or advanced when the motor is off as soon as vacuum is created the distributor is turned clockwise or retarded------------------------------that's the way mine is set up
  4. Have had it for 35 years, in the process of restoring if you have one you know the distributor turns clockwise, there is a vacuum control that is on the right side,, when at rest the spring in vacuum control pulls distributor all the way advanced--as soon as the motor fires up and creates vacuum the distributor is pulled all the way retard. the vacuum is original but was added from E Bay don't know if the spring is correct,,,,,,,,the issue is------if I time staticly the motor has no power because of the retard condition at idle -----if I use vacuum method to time. the motor kicks back when I try to start,,,,,,,the only way I can drive it is to lock the distributor so I can not turn,,,,,,,,,does any one have experience setting up this thing---------------------------bobnroman@yahoo.com

  6. thank you all for you thoughts but you are not understanding my problem please reread my original post -----full advance when off full retard as soon as it fires up I could start with the kick but I am trying to understand why this thing is there in the plymouth bulletin it was addressed a few years ago that this unit was to protect the kick back when hand cranking but again it does not seem to be the case
