The first sign is price.  The second sign is the CL ad shows the car is in Redding, Calif (the middle of nowhere) and the phone number is Iowa (also middle of nowhere - and I grew up there - so no offense intended).   Here is the BAT link to the car that sold for $42,000 on 11/18/20.    Far cry from the ad price.

If anyone is in the area of Redding, California in April. Look up the KOOL APRIL NIGHTS car show. It is a week long event capped off with a parade of all the cars in the show. Cars come from the Northern California, Washington and Oregon. I attended this show about 7 years ago and had a great time. At that time 1500 to 2000 cars. Nice area with a few very large lakes.

    Pont 46,

In case you haven't seen it, the '51 Pontiac in New Mexico for $20k was posted here.

I did look at the post on the New Mexico car. I would put the keys in the car, turn the ignition and drive it. The car in Canada is far from that and from a wet climate (no telling how much rust). As far as the engine goes, it hasn't run in 10 years, assume toast. There is no way that you could bring this car up to look as good as the New Mexico car for 14K. This is the car that you look at with beer goggles assuming that the paint will rub out and the chrome will polish up and 5 years later your wife is asking for a divorce because of this money pit.

  3. Is the seller seeing something that I am not? 8K for a car that needs everything to be a 20K car. Where's the upside? Is there a wad of cash stashed under the front seat? If this were my car, I would look to donate this to a high school, trade school, or junior college. This could stimulate interest in the hobby. Then I would take the tax write off and figure that I was ahead of the game. IMO numbers matching only matters if you have a rare car, either antique or high performance.

  4. 83 year old car that has not been cared for. Sad state of affairs, as it doesn't run, won't stop and more than likely needs to have full electrical system replaced. Then you can start on the paint, interior and chrome. After you finish all of that you would have a very nice 15K car. GLWTS

  5. I owned one of these in the early 80's when I bought it off a lot for $300. It had covers on the original interior and the paint was perfect. The car was so quiet, you could hardly hear it running. Excellent driving car, very comfortable. Sold it after two years for what I paid for it. Buyer said he was going to use it as a rental for the movies in Los Angeles. These are nice cars. GLWTS

I cannot understand that such car at this price is not sold after 5 minutes .

    Hello Daniel,

The reason that this car has not sold IMO is that it has been stored for two years without taking care of it. The seller says the engine runs well with a gas can. That said, it hasn't been driven (trans is questionable), paint is shot and the brakes will need to be redone. I really like this model and hope to buy one in the next couple of years. You can find these cars in drivable condition for about 11 or 12K. Just to paint this car would cost you about 15K. The interior is so beautiful that is why I agree with Matt Harwood about looking at his car and make one beautiful 400.

I have this clean one with working A/C but an incorrect interior. Buy them both and have one really good car.

Even the door panels look excellent on this $2800 dollar car. You couldn't buy the material for the interior for this price. These two cars together would sure make a beauty. Nice looking car Matt.

  8. I really like the '56 Packards and especially the 400 model. The interior certainly is attractive and to replace it would be quite expensive. I could see someone buying this car just to replace the interior in their car that is worn out. Looks like it would need paint and the door sills are questionable. At $2800 you could part it out and at least break even if not make a few dollars. GLWTS

  9. I like this car. A bit out of the ordinary and it seems to be a car that you could jump in and drive with clean interior and a recently rebuilt trans. I know the area that this car is located in and it does get very hot there, so the rubber seals would be a concern to me. I don't have a problem with the aluminum radiator as that works well for the area that this car is located in. GLWTS

  10. Wow, Wow and Wow again. If this car had the original interior and there was no rust issues, IMO this would be a stunner. That said, it is a sad state of affairs that we have here. The potential for this car is really high, but by the time that you chased down the original interior and repaired all of the rust, you would be far under water. I am not a real big Mopar fan, but this could be a real beauty. GLWTS

  11. Most cars that are worth the asking price are best shown in the daylight IMO. I do not understand why the owner of a highly optioned car would not replace the trunk seal before it starts leaking and looking this scruffy. It appears as this section of the car has received little to no attention at all. I have no idea of the value of this car, but having lived adjacent to San Fernando, Calif for 50 years, I will say that rust will not be an issue if this car has spent all of its life in this area. 12. Appears to be a nice looking car, but the long term storage would be a concern. All mechanicals need to checked out, but beautiful interior. I realize that this is the entry model D88, still has some nice looking lines.

  13. Sure is a nice looking car at what seems like a very reasonable price. The only suggestion that I have is that might help the sale of this car would be to include some pics of the interior that would show the bucket seats and the console. Until it was mentioned that the S-55 designation included the upgrade in the interior, I thought it had a bench seat. GLWTS.
