When I bought my '40 Super in 2008 this is about the shape my car was in except my car ran. I paid 6K for my Super, a little high. One good thing about this car is that it doesn't have much chrome (expensive). Before buying this car, I would get a catalog from Steele Rubber and make a list of every rubber part that is on this car, as all of it will have gone to junk (look at the tail light and check the rubber seal to the body). Then think about replacing all of the wiring because it is more than likely original. The paint does not look bad and maybe the engine is ok. IMHO just a little over priced.

Didn't even take the time to brush the leaves off of the rear bumper. Lazy flipper.

This was my mom's car in grey. The car that I learned to drive on. I really like this style, no "B" pillar sure helps the looks of this car. The Dynamic 88 with the "B" pillar and without the wrap around rear window does not appeal to me at all. Car looks very solid. Not a bad looking Cadillac in the background.

1941 Buick Eight Special serie 40 type 46S
kingrudy replied to sebastienbuick's topic in Me and My Buick
Best of luck with this beautiful Buick. The first thing that I would buy for my car would be Shop Manual for the "41 Buick. There are reproductions available and the manual has a wealth of information and the cost (about $25 USD) is well worth it. -
IMHO the light weights are collectible the same as someone who collects any other type of dust collector. They were manufactured to promote sales of the company whichever that might be ( Chevrolet, Ford Plymouth etc.), not to be driven on the street and enjoyed. So if you buy it, you might as well put it under glass to preserve it. No fun factor for me, but my wallet isn't that thick to be able to afford this, but if it was this would not interest me.

Sure looks good from afar, but you have the up close and personal view of this car. IMO the interior looks fantastic, I paid 6K just for the material in my car (period correct. The paint looks nice, but without seeing this close up, can you live with it? Chrome is also a big ticket item and to have it done be a quality shop......well you get what you pay for. If the engine is in good shape and only the trans needs work, if it were me I would try to shave $500 off the price and figure that would be fair to both parties. I would check NADA for their price guide.

1940 Buick Series 40 Special

This is a nice looking car from a distance. A close inspection would be necessary to see what you are getting into. Dash sure looks 80 years old and the steering wheel is gone, door seals and trunk are more than likely gone. Owner states the radiator needs attention and I would bet the wiring is original. to fix these issues and more could put you underwater real quick. It is a four door Special and there is a ceiling on this cars marketability. Tread carefully grasshopper as David Cardine would say. -
1958 Mercury 2 Door HT Station Wagon $10,000

I agree 100%. The repair of any rust and the the paint, primer and blocking to look super clean alone would be 20K. That leaves you 28k to finish the car. -

Big fan of this year Mercury, but never seen a 2-door. Finished car sure looks beautiful. -
Sorry for the late reply Ken, but you are so right. When I started to redo the dash, first thing I did was remove the radio and grill the protects the speaker. This part of the car had never seen the light of day since 1940 and it was a faux wood grain that was green (ugly from day one). This is why I chose to deviate from stock and painted the interior trim dark grey. I could have scored more points going with the stock green wood grain, but it really looked bad. Mike
