  1. The Melin books are must haves, Vol.2 is even more interesting w/ the known survivors chapter and the in-period photos.
  2. I'd rather have an original Cab B than a fake Roadster. Its sad they are using an original frame for that, they could have built a 100% replica without destroying an original survivor.
  3. Didnt this car come from the collection of Dr Bitgood in CT where the von Krieger longtail Roadster had also been for many years?
  4. Im not aware of any further covered spare long tail Roadster other than the Warner car and ex-Mann car that came from Argentina originally, either.
  5. Yes, most interesting auction since many years for MB. I think the estimate on the long tail covered spare wheel roadster is 11-12MM.
  6. Great find! Keep us posted about the resto!
  7. I think that was 2006 when the Autobahn Kurier was premiered after it's resto. That was a baffling decision that it failed to win BOS at that time.
  8. There has been some controversy if this great S was bodied by Buhne, Berlin or Gläser in Dresden, who did many fantastic Horch bodies. Has this been cleared up for the next auction?
  9. Wow, this looks fantastic. I like the subtle 2 tone scheme. Where is this car today? I think the FL car museum where it once was decades ago has been defunct.
  10. You mean this one? I dodnt realise it had the covered spare.
  11. Where is the Afghanistan car today? You got a photo or S/N? You mean the JW story is a myth?
  12. I think there are at least 2 500K cars by Windovers which are quite close in styling. One used to be in an Austrian car museum many years ago. Not sure if its the one that is sold. I agree its an attractive body, but obviously most want Sindelfingen body or a "big name" coachbuilder.
  13. I know the ex Jack Warner car and the ex Sam Mann car which was originally delivered in Argentina are original covered spare wheel Roadsters. What is the 3rd surviving car?
  14. Here are some great photos of a Longtail 540K Special Roadster in its final design with the covered spare. Probably built in 1938, the photos were apparently taken in Bucharest, Romania just before WW2. Anybody know the S/N and if the car has survived?
  15. How much are they asking? $ 2-3 MM ish ??
  16. This looks really nice. You may get a more desireable body - style than a Cab B for that money, but technical wise this seems in top shape.
  17. Anyone knows what they are asking? What is a realistic price to move this today? $600k ?
  18. This looks like a first version 500K Special Roadster with the chrome trim going all the way around the front fenders.
  19. This is a photo of a 540K Spezial Coupe, but it's RHD, so I guess this is NOT 130944, the car owned by Gen Lyons for many years?! This seems like a picturesque '70ies resto job bright red with white wheels. Anyone know more? Is this a rarely seen 3rd car of this body style?
  20. Here is a period pic and another 2 photos in restored state of the 853 Voll & Ruhrbeck Sport Cabriolet that won PB ~ 10 years ago, owned by Robert Lee.
  21. OK, this is most likely the same car then. The description seems to be German also. This was one of the very few remaining Kompressor Mercedes in Germany during the early post war years. The car is still on display today in the museum (see my 2nd pic above).
  22. Good question. Anybody? Hoping for some rarely seen examples.
  23. Real car. Late 20ies 710 SS type with Sindelfingen factory tourer body. Its not a one-off body, I think there are probably a handful of them still existing today. Here's the car displayed in the Deutsches Museum, Munich since the 1950ies.
