  1. The car is so complete and original it would be a real shame to rod it.
  2. No leaks as far as I can tell.. (the lacquer thinner did not evaporate since I had all openings taped). Ray, I did some web searches on Tapox but it appears it is unavailable in the U.S., nor is it legal to import (according to one vendor). Must be some good sh... uh, I mean 'stuff'.
  3. I do have my doubts about the sealer route too Bill. I'm going to talk to a local radiator/gas tank repair shop and see what they say. I did pour a a quart of laquer thinner in there tonight and sloshed it around, let it sit for a day. I haven't seen any evidence of leaks yet...
  4. Thanks for those tips guys. I like the idea of adding objects to enhance the scrubbing action. I wonder if gravel would work well?
  5. I just did a quick check by poking some stiff wire in there and sure enough, there is a baffle a little past midway from the filler end. There are some spot-solder joints at the same location which I thought were most likely repaired leaks. I will try the mirror trick too.
  6. Thank you for the tips guys. It sounds like taking it apart is not a good idea. I'm a little concerned about using sealer only if there is a baffle in there that prevents full coverage (or getting baffle surface itself sealed). I'm going to bring it into work and take a look with a borescope and see what I'm up against.
  7. The one on the vertical outside face of the passenger side frame rail, near the rear hanger for front spring was very easy to spot on mine once I had cleaned and wire brushed the area.
  8. Kerosine... good idea Jason. I've heard that about the oil pans springing leaks but this one sounds solid when tapping with a plastic mallet. We shall see...
  9. I took the oil pan off today... talk about primordial ooze! The baffle can't be removed (not easily) which makes cleaning out the goop a challenge. Anyone tackle this?
  10. My 25 touring car gas tank has a few dents and some very nasty stuff inside (50 year old gasoline remnants). I'm not sure if it has a baffle; none I can see from the gas gauge port. Has anyone taken the end cap off? It must be soldered on but it's hard to be sure. Any tips?
  11. Hi Jason, any chance you can get a measurement on c to c distance for the mount holes on the windshield?
  12. Excellent! How about some photos...
  13. I have given up on finding a correct pair of top rests for the 25 touring car (the ones made from unobtanium). I recently got these on fleabay for a relative pittance and will use them if I need to when the time comes. Anyone recognize the part numbers on these?
  14. If you find the info please post it here Bill.
  15. The ones on fleabay are similar looking but are air pressure operated. Our cars need the vacuum operated type. I'll just have to keep my eye out for a Folberth. They must have been used on other car in this period too (I hope), which should increase the odds...
  16. Thanks Bill. I found this photo of one in an old thread. It was referred to as a Trico-Folberth. Thanks for the tip on the NOS Trico Ray. Maybe I'll be able to figure out what it should have soon...
  17. Oh I can imagine it Pete.. my car didn't come with the key but DB member Platt-Deutsch was able to help me out. He used an Ilco 997DB blank.
  18. THere's a similar one I've seen many times on fleabay with a 'buy it now' of $7,500 ! Let me think.... um, no.
  19. I forgot to report here that my local Ace hardware actually stocked Clum equivalent keys. They are stamped steel and a little bit thinner than my original but they were able to copy it and it works. Total cost? Less than $3 if I remember correctly.
  20. I forgot.. my serial number is A 323967. I was too lazy to locate my mechanic's manual to see where that fits in.
  21. Well I just looked at my upper windshield and there are two 'extra' holes. They are 5-5/8" apart (c to c) but are not equally spaced about the center hole. One is about 3" from the center hole. So it appears more likely that my wiper motor may not be correct....
  22. Yea that was it Bill. I guess it could be one of those mid-year production change things. If my frame has those extra mount holes I'll have to assume someone added a non-original motor.
  23. I don't recall seeing an anti-rotation post such as yours has Pete. I'll have to take a close look at the upper windshield and see if there is any evidence of a remnant or hole. It's easy to imagine the one I have being a retrofit of a newer model. Dang, now I'll probably have to find a correct wiper motor..
