  1. Some more updates. The wood wheels have been replaced (temporarily or permanently?) with 20" steel discs on front and 21" discs on the rear. The babbited bearings are being shipped back from Kansas City to NH to be line bored. Soon I'll have them back and engine assembly will begin.
  2. Did the finish welding and grinding today.
  3. Here is a piece of the old top from mine.
  4. Here is the "finished" product. I think it looks pretty good. The only way to see it is to go in the bed of the truck, or climb a ladder. I'm 6'4" and it's 2 or 3 inches taller than me!
  5. https://www.amazon.com/Dodge-Brothers-Motor-Legacy-Great/product-reviews/0814332463 Page 172 "For that year(1925) Dodge Brothers shipped 22,293 commercial cars and another 186 trucks with under one-ton capacity rating, probably their three-quarter-ton pickup." As it turns out, my "pickup" is one of 58,733 Commercial cars and trucks built in 1927.
  6. This is the back of same piece. Seems to be fairly high quality, and low price. Sold by the foot.
  7. This is the stuff. It is not the cobra long grain, like on model a's. I used the long grain on the coupe top, because I needed a wider piece. This was 54" wide, and was plenty wide for the pickup.
  8. The original was mostly gone, but it was faded black, dried out and smooth no grain. I bought a piece from Lang's for Model T's. Figure they would have used something about the same?
  9. Here are the latest updates to the truck. Top soon to be covered with black vinyl. I rebuilt the bed with ash planks from a tree that was in my friend's back yard! The header came from that too.
  10. This is what I've been doing the last couple of days. I don't have an English wheel or any real sheet metal tools, other than a borrowed Harbor Freight shrinker/stretcher, so I had to piece this one together. Compound curves are a bitch. Seems like it came out OK though. Just a bunch of finish welding and grinding to do now.
  11. Also the Fast Four has been at the babbit shop for a long time. Hopefully done soon. Made new door bottoms in the last couple of days, I'll add some pictures soon.
  12. This is what I've done this past month. Finished the trunk floor, made patch panels(cowl bottoms, and in front of the rear fenders) floorboards and seat frame. The top was almost completely rotted away, so I made a mostly flat insert out of plywood, then added four bows made of quarter inch thick poplar and blocks in the middle. That gave it a slight dome, then stretched chicken wire, padding and covered it with cobra long grain black vinyl. Also in the past year I had a windshield made and put into the better of the two frames I had.
  13. I'm going to give the Gibbs a shot. I ordered two cans, and will report back.
  14. Tell me more about Gibbs. Is it just oil that you spray on? Does it dry dark, or what? I'm not planning on painting this anytime soon, I wouldn't want to cover all the history that shows itself through all the rust and little dings. It would be like painting over the beautiful wood grain in an old cabinet. I'm considering lightly sanding then using clear spar urethane. Other stuff I've done looks really nice after a treatment. It darkens the rust a bit, kinda like wetting it. I figure then as long as I keep it out of the rain and off salted roads it would last quite a while.
  15. Dry January days are good for moving firewood, and my kids love it!
  16. I finally got it registered, a couple of days before Thanksgiving! Today I put around 15 miles on it. No issues. Delivered a repaired snowblower with it, then went on a service call. Definitely going to be a good work truck for me.
  17. I have a '15 Roadster body, and I'm looking for doors. Do you think they would match?
  18. What is a reasonable rate for babbling a 5 main motor? I'm having my fast four bearings re-done, and I think my guy has a high rate. Hopefully he is really good...
  19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/172321600832?euid=bfd7cf34d9c34af6b391adfa332ea83e&bu=43154438519&cp=1&sojTags=bu=bu This is not my listing, I'm actually looking for a windshield for my '15 roadster. I contacted the guy because he's located fairly near to me. Asked him the measurements, and it's wider than mine is. The post to post centers on mine is 35-1/2". He says his measures 38-5/8". The posts look a lot shorter than what mine would need. Can anybody clarify what this is for? Anybody need it? I could pick it up and ship it to you. He also told me he would take my offer of $350. Let me know if I can help anybody.
  20. I now have this full front axle for sale too. I was going to use it for my speedster but decided to go a little different way. Steering and brake linkage is all there and works. I put new kingpin bushings in and freed up the brakes. Brake drums and hubs and caps are there also. Bearings are in good shape and re-packed. email me at moose@manifoldsbymoose.com
  21. Yes, that's the gas. There's no color because it's empty. Funny you should mention moonshine, maybe I should give that a try...
  22. My speedster has now become a roadster! '15 body on the '27 chassis.
