  1. I have asked elsewhere on the forum, can we tell the type of body fitted by the position of the mounting brackets? Or are all 115" chassis identical without the body?
  2. Sorry, that bolt is irrelevant. It is what we call a roofing bolt in the UK. Nothing to do with the car.
  3. Hi Fred & Colin I thought my car was a 2 door sedan, but a lady who knew the car remembers a 2 door with rumble seat. So I am not sure now. Any kind of tag might help with the UK licensing authorities.
  4. Down to the rolling chassis at last. One of my correspondents remembers my Buick with a 2 door body with a Dicky (rumble) seat. Can we tell what type of body was fitted by the position of the mounting brackets on the chassis frame? Can you search your old photos please. Looking for RHD Buick with registration number UC 8426.
  5. Just found this on Google UK Automotive Woodworking: Restoration ... - Google Books
  6. Hi Colin, thanks Leif, I now have the registration plates for the car UC 8426, a 1928 London number. Does anyone know if the London records survived? I also have photos of the car being pulled out of a barn in Birchington in Kent in 1987, which show a square brass chassis plate on the bulkhead (can't read it unfortunately), and lots of photos of the chassis restoration.
  7. Hi, I finally got my body lifted off today to get down to the bare chassis. Leif, here are the photos I promised. I found a number stamped on the rear left mounting bracket. I suspect it is the part number for the bracket. Any ideas?
  8. Thanks everyone for the ID plates. I was looking at my bulkhead and I think is is drilled for the big square plate, maybe similar to the Czech and Spanish ones.
  9. Hi Buick33 Yes that might be very helpful. Can you email the details please. humber349@aol.com Thanks Phil
  10. Thanks Mike. Yes I would like to look at your car please. Can you email me please humber349@aol.com Update time- I have now found all 7 post war owners of my Buick. The first of which found the car in a barn in 1987, and he did all the restoration work. I am hoping to get the original registration number plates and photos of the restoration. The car is registered with the DVLA and did have a V5 registration document when it was sold in 1998. It would be great to find the V5 and the chassis id plate, but they are still missing unfortunately. I am really enjoying the research and may even start work on the car eventually.
  11. I agree with the rotted off theory. The English climate has never been kind to wood and steel. I have the body id plate and my Buick was sold as a 2 door 5 seater 'Dominion' saloon. The GM LTD UK instruction book that says the chassis number was on a plate on the bulkhead. The bulkhead has been stripped and painted and the plate has been lost sometime in the cars later movements between owners, along with some other important parts. Anyone got a thermostat for the top of the radiator please?
  12. I now know 4 previous owners of my Buick. They all owned it in the same condition, restored rolling chassis but no bodywork. I still have no paperwork and have not found the chassis number yet. The earliest owner was in Bedford UK around 1995. Does anyone remember seeing my Buick before that please? Anyone know who did all the restoration work?
  13. Hi pepcak sorry for the long delay. I have not had time for the Buick recently, but I am now thinking Buicks again. I would be interested in having a few plates made. Can you give me the address of the company please.
  14. Hi Leif this is not mine unfortunately. I saw this one on the message board. I have not found mine yet. I think I might need to get a new one.
  15. Hi all, I might need a brass General Motors of Canada id plate similar to this one. Does anyone make reproductions or can I get an old one as a sample please?
  16. Hi all, I think I read the answer to this somewhere before but I can't remember where. Did Canadian export models have the X suffix, ie 28-27X, or was it just the US export cars?
  17. Thanks for the photo Rod. At least I know what I am looking for now. Any one making reproduction plates? Leif, I have read the judging notes but I can not find any reference to the position of the chassis serial number. Am I missing something?
  18. Hi Fred, do you think it was the same on my 1928 then? Anyone got a photo of this plate please?
  19. David Hayward has been very helpful. My car is a 1928 McLaughlin Buick Standard 6 built in London, England. Are there any export records for McLaughlin in 1928?
  20. Hi John, perhaps someone can interpret my id plate. It would be interesting to know if it the right one for my car and what type of body it had originally.
  21. Thanks Dave, he might be a long lost relative.
  22. Hi Larry I am still looking for the chassis number.
  23. This the plate that came loose in a box of parts with my car. I presumed it was wrong because none of the numbers made sense to me. What do you think? It reads General Motors Ltd The Hyde London NW9 Body model no. 7580 Body serial No. H253 Would it have a London chassis number plate or a Canadian one like Peter Cornwell's? I can't get the insert image button to work at the moment.
  24. Thanks Jules. Do you know where I can get a book. Is it reprinted? Is it specific to London built cars? I would like to see the photo of the firewall plate please to get one reprinted. I have a later plate which came with the car, but nothing to do with my car I think. I will take a photo of that.
