  1. Rod, From your signature block, it looks like you know your way around model "A's", so you should know what to do. Video's indicate it runs, and stops, so just change all the fluids and drive it. OR you could ; Check the tires for age (date code / cracks etc.) You could pull the pan, just for a look see, if you get sludge on your finger in the drain hole. You could pull a wheel or two to check the brake linings. Just depends on what you are going to do with the car.............. Mike in Colorado
  2. Methinks they are. Our local True Value carries grade 2 in a silver cad plating, grade 5 in a black oxide, and grade 8 in a yellow / gold cad plating. Mike in Colorado
  3. Rod, Here is a really novel idea. Since you appear to be a mechanic, take a 90 degree bend in the right diameter, weld on two flanges, and bolt on an old S.U. carb from and old Jaguar. That is the closest thing to fuel injection you can get, and would really confuse anyone who looked under the hood. Plus they polish up nicely. I used to put them on old Harley's and they really woke up those old knuckleheads. Mike in Colorado
  4. Quite good, but not enough. The back window should be 2" tall, max. Saw a '40 Lincoln coupe at a car show last year with a 4" body section, and a 6" top chop, and 'slammed" to the ground on air bags. Painted black, I offered to trade the '40 Buick LTD straight up, and really had him thinking, but no go, per his bride.
  5. Doesn't need much ? An ideal car for John Bloom. Call him quick Matt Mike in Colorado.
  6. When your digging a hole, and you can no longer see out, maybe it's time to stop digging................ Mike in Colorado
  7. I'd chop the top 4" and I think I have a SBC laying around. We're wandering again. Our goal here is to find Mr. Bloom a CAR ! Mike in Colorado
  8. TexRiv, Yup, that's Sandy's Buick parked in his driveway, That's the one he took me to lunch in back in 2011. Had a bit of gear whine in first, but she would get up and run ! I sure miss stopping by his place when I make sales calls up in Ft. Collins. O.K. guys, enough of hijacking Mr. Bloom's thread. Lets find him a CAR! So we can all chip in and tell him what he has to do to it ! Matt, what do you have in the barn for him, that is not too expensive, and just requires some cosmetic polishing. Please not a Pierce. Can't you find him a 4 door Buick or an Imperial in the low 5 figures ? Mike in Colorado
  9. John, Last picture, did you note the "Stewart Warner" radio below the wheel ? Most folks think it's a tach or a vacuum gauge...........till I turn it on with it's own key. Mike in Colorado
  10. Matt, I agree. Whom ever chose the colors on that '31 should be shot. Does not do the car justice. Sidemount covers ? Not correct, and to cover those big whitewall sidemounts is a sin. Mike in Colorado
  11. AL, "couldn't get a sniff at 90K" That's because just looking at the picture above, he's 70K too high. Mike in Colorado

  13. To be honest John, the Chrysler / Imperial bunch is playing checkers, while the Buick crowd is playing chess. Were I to look at '30's buicks, I would save up for a series 90. Awhile back Mr. Sandy Jones widow, (AKA Outlaw Car Man here) had one of his 2, count em 2 series 90 1932 Buick limo's for sale. I think it was the black one, and it came from one of the DuPonts some time ago. I rode in it many years ago, just after I found my '40 LTD. He would not trade me, and I've lusted for a '30's BIG sedan ever since. The '31 imperial was found almost by accident, and I've been very pleased with it. You been on www.carsonline.com yet ???"? Mike in Colorado
  14. Ah, but you would...................and that concerns me. Mike PS; Now that we're really off track and have hijacked John's thread, I have to again refer him to the Chrysler / Imperial marque. Hey John, GET A MOPAR and Take Ed's advice, "drive it like u stole it" ! It really is the only one u can.
  15. That's true, but for about 4k you could transplant a completely rebuilt '49 Chrysler flathead 8 and 90% of the population out there would not know the difference. Mike in Colorado
  16. I am so glad all you folks are concentrating John, who started this thread, onto the Chrysler / imperial brand ! Re the red one, all you experts know that the '31's did not come with 'trumpet" horns. You either have to use '32 headlight brackets, that have the 2 mounting holes, or make your own brackets like i did. Rebody ? So if I use brand new welding rod to repair an original old body is that a "sin"? I know there is a whole crowd out there that when the paperwork outweighs the car, it's fit to show. But like they say in Kansas, "I ain't one of them " Mike in Colorado
  17. Well then, what about the red one from "Premier Auction Group" for 120K ? Or the two tone green one that's been on the net for quite a while on "Topclassiccarsforsale" By Mr. Nelson
  18. I agree with Matt, but for 235K I want the engine detailed, the right gazelle on the cap, and the car ready for Pebble. Especially when there is a nice two tone blue "dual cowl" in Hemmings for only 127K. Mike in Colorado
  19. You should have hooked it to a shaft on the dash, so they could pretend. Gives new meaning to the phrase "counter steer". Mike in Colorado PS; John, I was contacted via PM by a fellow with the forum handle of "31 Chrysler" and he has a cream and brown CG roadster for sale. He did not quote a price, but I got the impression he was serious. There are a couple of two tone green '31 "dual cowls" out there, but they are out of my price range.
