  1. Thanks Bud for that info. It seems like they had a lot of designations for similar engines and I never understood the differences. I think the F227 was very similar to the 226 if not almost identical. To add confusion the valve I bought was actually labeled Wisconsin Motors.
  2. Never sure where to post topics about the Continental Engine but I know some of you have this motor. I have to share an experience that I resolved today.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> I have the F-226 L head and since I installed the engine 3 years ago I have had close to zero oil pressure. I would say zero but since oil was flowing I must have had something. At first I suspected the location I had the electric oil sending unit was not the proper port so I posted questions on AACA about that. Then I suspected my unit and gauge so about a year ago I replaced both those. No luck. Then I hooked up a temporary mechanical pressure gauge, still zero. Honestly I wasn't too concerned because I saw oil on the top end of the motor but I was still concerned. Over the 3 years I've put perhaps 50 miles on this engine that I bought from a collector who bought it from a machine shop about 20 years ago and kept it in the crate for future use.<o:p></o:p> About 3 weeks ago I started reading up more on the oil pressure relief valve. Seems you can buy different strength springs, or shim the one in there. I decided I would buy a new valve off of ebay last week ($23), complete with new spring and a plunger. It arrived yesterday. Pulled my old one today. THE PLUNGER WAS MISSING. Only a spring was in there. I have been driving around for three years with no oil pressure relief valve. I am so fortunate nothing catastrophic happened. I fired it up a few minutes ago. Oil pressure for the first time. Sorry for rambling but I'm a little in shock.
  3. Susan, the same WV bill also makes talking on a handheld device a secondary offense. In July 2013 it will be a primary. I'm glad but I hope they enforce it because DC has had this as law for years now but 3 out of 4 drivers are doing it. I take a commuter bus to DC and watch all the people texting.
  4. Steve, I see Susan responded to you concerning WV. Not sure what the actual law here states but it was simple all 3 times to get an antique tag. No more state inspections and the tag is good for 5 years. There are requirements on driving the cars but most of my miles were chalked up driving the cars to and from inspection stations. There was no verification or proof needed.
  5. Oh how I miss the good ole days. I worked for Ford Aerospace which became Loral in 1990, and then Lockheed Martin in 1996. This battery is still car related. Hear me out. Prior to 1976 Ford Areospace was Philco, which of course before that was Philco-Ford. FYI, I had no idea Philco stood for the Philadelphia Storage Battery Company until a moment ago. Wow, learn something new every day.
  6. I see on the AACA Facebook that the new issue of Antique Automobile is out. I look forward to reading it when I receive mine in the mail but until then is it available on line somewhere?
  7. Wayne, you validated my statement. The Vega looked sporty and handled well. The Citation did not.
  8. These cars were ugly then and even uglier today. My coworker had a new Celebrity Eurosport. There's a misnomer. The Vega is not in the same class as this GM embarrassment.
  9. There is a gentleman from the Netherlands who is looking to replace the door locks on his American car. Does anyone recognize this GM lock? Although hard to see, the lock does have a swing away cover on it. Doug
  10. Yes it is over the convertible and although the cars shown are Checkers, these must have been what could be considered concept cars because although Checker did make a retractable landau top years ago, they never made a convertible. It also looks like suicide door on the car.
  11. photo is thought to be from the Geneva show in 1950.
  12. Poci1957, you mentioned in your old post back in 2009 about a photo of a Checker Police car. Do you have a link to that photo?
  13. drwatson, yes they fit Checker 1970-1982 but GM's Guide lamp division would not have produced or created them for Checker. They would have most likely been on another vehicle.
  14. I've searched on ebay for these side markers/reflectors but the only ones I find have a crest in the center. These are marked "Guide 97 SAE PIA 70". Can someone tell me what year and make GM cars they might go on? Thanks
  15. I didn't mean that you googled it. I did to see them on a Chevy. Here is the original photo not cropped. It's a 56-58 A8 Checker that someone put these lights on. Checker did not come with backup lights then. The taxi company must have wanted to increase safety.
  16. DJ, just googled the 53. Wow, you're good. Thanks. Ad I just read says also Canadian Pontiac.
  17. First, sorry for the small photo but this is as good as it gets. Can anyone I.D. this taillight assembly? It's off a US car, most likely mid 50s. I intentionally cropped the car out of the photo because this was a custom install someone did.
  18. I happen to be surfing the German ebay site for old cars and came across this 1958 AMC Rambler Rebel. I've never seen anything like it. Did we sell this same body style in the USA? Doug
  19. Thanks Matthew, very cool catalog with a lot of goodies in it. I'll keep that like for future, regardless of if those clamps fit. Also thanks Howard, I live off of ebay and check it daily for one thing or another. I did see the proper size clamps just a few weeks ago on ebay but for $25 for two corroded looking NOS clamps, I'll pass.
  20. I am having an impossible time finding the old 60s style double wire hose clamps that will fit my lower radiator hose. It's 2 1/8" O.D. on the hose, which is the same size as a small block chevy water pump has. Any source suggestions would be great. Thanks, Doug
  21. LINC400, honestly I did not know Mercury was dead until you posted it.
  22. Like many people do, I converted my A/C system from R-12 to R-134A. The fittings (low and high) now have the adapters on them. Does this fall under an exception when judged or is this a possible point deduction? Thanks
  23. I'm not understanding the dual Grand National & Southeastern Meet in Shelbyville. I know it's June 14-16 but what days are which? Is the GNs show one day and southwest meet another? Is there a schedule?
  24. RHL, I may be the only Checker owner who surfs these forums.
  25. Interesting investigation. I never paid attention to those patent numbers, or the value they could provide.
