The free wheeling feature Dave mentioned was for when you took your foot of the gas the engine would not put a load (slow down) on the car. Nice for going down steep hills. Doug

Yes Wartburg was East German. I'm a member of a Yahoo forum that discusses East German cars. I just posted your photo for comment. I'll let you know what is said. Doug

Now that I have a Grand National Badge (cheers) I will be rearranging the current AACA National First Badge with its Senior tab so it's displayed in a more attractive way with the other badge on the front of the car. I also have a National Award Winner tab. Is the National Award Winner tab required (expected) to be with the National First badge or can it go behind the Grand National Winner badge? Hopefully that all made sense. Speaking of "cheers", my wife came across a wine maker, while attending the AACA Reading meet last month, who will create personal labels for their bottles. Attached is a photo of one of those bottles that we will be opening in a moment. Doug

I’m looking for a 1953 Olds firewall grommet retainer, and perhaps the grommet. This is for the main wiring harness. I’ve attached a photo of a 1950s Ford retainer, which is similar in style but smaller. Searched the web with now luck. Reproduction would be desired but beggars can’t be choosers. Anything is better than nothing. Thanks Doug

2012 Annual Grand National Meet

Somewhat less on Saturday? I'm surprised since more cars are eligible then. I'm attending mainly for Friday but since I'm there, I’m attending Saturday also. -
thanks for feedback. I was only looking at possible benefits. I never considered the negative impact. I'm glad I ask. No cover will be used.

2012 Annual Grand National Meet

I'm definitely not a bib overalls kind of guy. -
Perhaps a silly question but when transporting your show cars long distances in an enclosed trailer do any of you also put the car cover on? This will be my first time using an enclosed trailer and in theory the car should be as dust frees and clean when I remove it as when I placed it in the trailer but I'd love to hear from others. Doug

I have an attire question. I've attended the banquets at Hershey and at Stowe where the men dressed in business casual. I also attended the banquet in Philly for the National Awards where it was black tie. What is the Grand National banquet dress code? I wasn't planning on packing a tie, unless that's appropriate. Thanks Doug -
Thanks for posting photos. I admire these people for doing what they can to keep these things running, regardless of what the engine might be.

West, you said Hershey is a "true Concours". Can you elaborate on what a true concours is and how it is different from a nationally judged car show?

Chris, the smooth-on website is inspiring. Thanks. Doug

Thanks all. I've attached a photo of the part, which I did consider attaching yesterday but then decided not to. Bad choice. I read a lot about the 3 d printing today, very cool but I do think the part is too long for that process. Regardless I'm glad the suggestion was posted because I learned a lot for reading up on it. Concerning the resin suggestions, let me read up more on that. The part does get painted so the material doesn't matter. In fact the original finish was hammerite so that hides even more flaws. Suggestions on a vendor or is this easy enough to do at home with buying a few materials? Doug

I read the long post titled CASTINGS on this forum. Very interesting. Sounds like you can have any cast iron part made. I'm needing a plastic interior part made for my car. I've been told it was made by the plastic injection molding process but then another guy stated its thermoform (doubt it). I don't know and honestly I don't care. I just need to have my broken windshield vent deflector reproduced. It's about 54" long. I do understand having one or two of any item fabricated is not cost effective, or cheap, but can someone give some suggestions on a source for making this plastic part? Thanks

David as luck would have it I came acoss a car cover for you today. It might not help the previous posters who are looking for dust free covers. No this is not a West Virginia car cover. We use tarps.

Thanks Joe. Glad to know I wasn't putting them on wrong after all these years.

Spending my morning installing some new universal over the counter brake lines. Something I've always wondered is why are the fitting different on the ends? One fitting is always longer than the other. They make it different for a reason I'm sure but I've never seen what that reason is and since the threads are the same, I typically install them without worry about where the longer fitting goes. Thoughts?

I want to stress what bofusmosby stated when converting from DOT 3 to DOT 5. As stated, "ALL" fluid must be removed. I recently changed over one of my cars from DOT 3 to 5. I pulled a vacuum on the brake system to clean out the DOT 3 but apparently that, and bleeding was not enough. As previous posts have stated, the combination of 3 and 5 turned to sludge over a few days and made braking horrible until I was able to get it all out of the system. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p>

Hey David, I just returned from the Reading Show and I did notice in the hotel parking lot a few cars with car covers that were more than a little ragged. Seemed like a false sense of protection. As Friartuck mentioned, California car cover has a huge variety and many custom sizes. I prefer the thicker evolution fabric since I'm wanting indoor protection the most. These covers also protect from dust. The negative is the cover itself is heavy and when removed from the car can take up half the truck. Doug

Tommy, I don't know the true answer but something doesn't seem right about your response. The vehicle earned a Senior last year. That makes it eligible to compete at the Grand National meet on Friday for a AGNM First, Second, or Third. Saturday's meet would be for the Preservation Award. I'm just guessing.

oh, I thought Apple Blossom was last weekend. Thanks. I have been to this shows 3-4 times but it's been years.

What show in Winchester?

I got my fuel gauge working for the first time in over 30 years. It was tough to find a 90 to 0 ohm fuel sending unit but perseverance pays off. I had it custom build.
