  1. Yes breakaway torque is the torque required get an engine moving from stationary. It seems it varies from engine to engine so it appears I will have to measure mine with a spring scale. The idea is to remove the starting clutch complete from the engine front pulley, manufacture a new hub to carry the sprocket and a one way clutched bearing. These bearings are of the exact same size as the 6200 series of standard bearings. At this point I am gathering information so I can select a bearing that will accept the starting torque and will also accept the engine revs. So far it appears the I will be able to incorporate this into the existing pulley so the external appearance of the set up will not change. Quite happy to pass on information and drawings once I have made it work, but it could take some time.
  2. Would anyone out there in the big wide world know the breakaway torque for a 1925 Big Six engine. I am considering modifying the starter clutch and doing away with the pawls etc and replacing with a one way CKk type bearing. Thanks in anticipation
  3. Hi Rick. Thanks for your reply. I did think that was the case. Will now descale it all and see how we go. Regards Doug
  4. Hi All Could anyone please advise if the EP Big Six engine has a water manifold (tube) and if so where is it located? Thanks Doug
  5. Thanks for that Stude8. I will now purchase a pulley and recondition it with the help of the photos you have posted in the past Doug
  6. Help Please. Can someone please tell me if the front engine pulley assembly that includes the one way starter clutch on the EQ and the EP are the same? Thanks Doug
  7. Original plug size is 7/8 x 18TPI for both EQ & EP engines. Champion still make plugs with this thread size but in a limited heat range. I have purchased them here in Australia. There are also available threaded inserts that convert from original so a modern plug can be used. D16s donot fit unless the head has been modified. If need be I can look up the Champion part number for you but it may take a few days. Just let me know. Cheers
  8. Interesting photo of the tools. I still have the oil can cliped to the fire wall but can you tell me what Pt No 20461 is for. Its also still under my seat. Thanks
  9. I dont know what year or model changes were made to a flywheel ring gear starting system but earlier models used a leaf chain drive from the starter motor which was mounted at the front of the engine to a one way pawl clutch that was mounted on the front of the crankshaft just behind the belt pulley. I have attached a photo from Stude 8 that was on an earlier forum. Hope this helps explain. Doug in Oz
  10. Hi Guys Thanks for your advise. I put oil into the oil hole, started the car ( by using that good invention "the crank handle") drove the car for about 15 minutes and the starter has worked every time I have tried since and is the quietest it has opperated in the last 2 years. Will make it part of the regular service Doug in OZ
  11. I am having intermittent problems with the starter clutch. Sounds rough. metal to metal scraping etc and sometimes the pawls lock into place OK and the engine rotates. Other time it spins freely so the engine does not rotate. On closer inspection I have found a small approx 1/8th hole between the belt pulley and the front of the clutch assy. Is this an oil hole? and if so what grade of oil and how often should it be lubricated or am I going to have to look further into the clutch assy. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  12. I have been looking for diff parts for 1925 EQ in Australia. Have been advised that the diff may be same as 1926 ER. Is anybody able to confirm this for me Thanks Doug
