Yes, I saw this earlier. He was a hell of a driver. He was on Top Gear one time with the original cast and took James May for a ride. Scared the shit out of him, it was hilarious. I know this stuff is scripted but still WOW. Do that in a Tesla. Joey

Turned out not to bad. Could not get a good pic inside. The grommet through the firewall, the inside part ended up pulling out into the engine bay, made it pretty easy. Then just pushed it back in. thanks for everyone's input. Joey

Yeah Tom that's about what it feels like. I know its fifty years old but can't imagine it ever being flexible. They are held on with some very sturdy staples too. Found a local source for some sheet rubber going to go by there see what they got. Might see about making my own a-arm slash shields too. Joey

Yeah I've got the manual, gonna do one at a time. Thats a good idea on colorizing the manual, I've got some sharpy paint pens for all the stripes on the hoses. Might be diving into it this weekend, when I'm done i'll post a pic. All the info has been great. Thanks Joey

Tom, the sizes are out of stock , went to two napa stores last week they both had a lot of empty reels of hoses, mostly standard. they said its being used and not restocked. unfortunately another supply chain issue. Don't know why I can find it online and not in the store. Try to support the brick and mortar. Joey

Hey Tom, when you do this do you pull the whole grommet out the front or just the outside piece (as described above) and leave the inside piece? I guess you have to do some very precise labeling to make sure you put them back correctly on the controls. I'm going to color code them too when I replace them. Standard sizes are harder to find instead of the metric. I can usually find them at NAPA but nowadays its all a crapshoot. Thanks Joey

I'm not looking for the whole splash shield just the rubber, no need to buy repop. These aren't the a-arm these go behind the headlights inside the fender. When I got this car most of the trim stuff was in totes and the trunk, try to remember where things go from a 65 I had a while back. been interesting. I'll check Mcmaster, see what they got for the rubber. Thats some pretty fancy carving work Turbinator, what did you use to cut so precise? thanks Joey

The rubber part on these have seen better days. Has anyone replaced this part and with what? I guess any kind of durable rubber would do. I've done this before years ago but I had some scrap stuff laying around and it worked. Don't know what it was from. Thinking about maybe just a rubber mat of some sort? suggestions? Thanks Joey

Great info. I would also be slicing the ends to remove them. Is it possible to just disconnect a line at one end and possibly pull it through without removing the grommet? Since it's going to be done one at a time anyway. unless the grommet squeezes the hoses too tight. Like was mentioned a little lube of some sort and slowly pulling it through. pulling it back through would be another story. Am I right that the hoses are all the same size 1/8 ? thanks Joey

On a 65 where the vacuum hoses go through the firewall is there a fitting with nipples they go into or do they just go through the wall? Don't want start tugging on a fifty year old piece of plastic if its there. If so I guess best way is to slice them open and slide them off instead of pulling. Looks like the inside will be a bear, being behind the venting. Any tips besides getting someone with small hands? BTW I have my interior and console out so that will help. Thanks, Joey

Wow, yes funny. There are so many things to add ha ha. One is cost of somewhere for the wife car to park because she no longer can park in the attached garage, with "I am not leaving my car outside in the winter" ringing in your head. Or somewhere for your car to go. Ask me how I know.

This post is spooky. i'm also contemplating this. I was thinking the same thing. What made you decide this? my rochester is rough, been sitting for a while and the previous owner thought it looked good to paint it gold, Eww. Stuff i've read hear seems carters are the way to go. Gene at AB&G has all kinds of sheet metal. I got a hood from him last year for my 65. I don't remember what I pain cause I got a lot of other stuff. He's located in Pennsylvania, a little drive up the coast for ya. Those hoods are heavy and big and shipping would probably be more than the hood the way shipping costs are now. If you talk to him he will really encourage you to come and see it rather than ship. He's a great guy, very reasonable with prices and very knowledgeable too. Only thing is you will leave with more than what you came for. At least I did. Could not separate need from want. Good luck, Joey

New Grand Tour coming July 30 on Amazon Prime, it's called Lochdown. The boys, Clarkson, May, and Hammond go for a tour of Scotland driving a Lincoln, a Coupe de ville and a boat tail Riviera. There is a two minute preview on YouTube of it and it looks like the shows they used to do on BBC. For anyone that knows them this looks hilarious. Looks like they are in top form. And anyone that doesn't, watch this and enjoy. Not another car show like it. Especially when they were Top Gear. Other hosts have tried to do Top Gear but these guys are the originals. It was hooked up on my car, i just didn't want to leave it. It was spliced into the wires under the dash and mounted left of the steering column. It has the ends that pierce the wires and slide the rubber boot over it. Did not pay attention were the wires went because i wasn't going to use it in there.

sorry Philip, i'm hanging on to this one. I did see a few on eBay though. there are different model numbers, not sure if that matters. there is one of these (no. 127) on there for $75 and I think he ships worldwide. The challenge would be the wiring. what wire goes where. Joey

Had one in my 65 but, what I thought was strange is four of the six wires are red. Hmm. Did not work though, the flasher relay on the end was missing.
