  1. Will be 60 in July. 71 and a 93 daily driver. Also a 41 Studebaker Commander.
  2. I know this is an old thread, but I just purchased a 93 and found the owners manual in PDF format online. Here is the link: http://www.extendedgmwarranty.com/owners-manual/buick/1993-Buick-Riviera.pdf
  3. ...for a 1941 Commander. Any forum member know where I might find both left and right hood hinges? Thanks!
  4. What valve stems? I am getting new tires, rim strips and tubes for my 41 Commander. My question is: Do I need TR15 which will fit a 5/8" diameter hole or TR13 which will fit an approximate .43" diameter hole? The whole in the rim looks to be 5/8" but it's difficult to tell with the presen valve stem in it. Thanks again!
  5. Thanks 62Champ. I just came across an article regarding radials on bias ply rims stating the same concern about older rims not being able to necessarily handle the flexing of radial tires. I also decided to keep the stock look of the car so bias ply it is. What brand did you get? BTW, great looking Lark and truck!
  6. I need to put new tires on the 41 Commander. What are the group's thoughts on bias ply vs. radial? The original size was 6.25 x 16. What might be a comparable radial size? Thanks!
  7. For 1941 Commander. Part numbers 274698 and 274699. Thanks!
  8. That's a good point, Terry. The shoes were relined and although the car stops better than when I got it, it seems more effort is required if that makes any sense. See you at the zone meet and I guess I better leave enough space in front of me on the ASC tour. Cheers!
  9. Thanks for the replies. The Commander is all stock except for the paint, I will get the local Studebaker expert to have a look at the brakes to make sure all is right. In this part of Canada (near Whistler) there are some very steep hills and I am somewhat nervous to take the car any distance because I would prefer a dual chamber master cylinder, If I find that everything is set up properly and the brakes are still not what I'd like, I'll contact Jim Turner. If a solution can't be found there, I may try the 8E series route, Gary, did this system employ a dual chamber master cylinder? Cheers!
  10. Hello all When I brought my 41 Commander from WA to BC I had to have it safety inspected. Work was done to the brakes: shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, hoses replaced. I’m still not really happy with the brakes and have chalked it up to the 70 year old technolgy. I know Turner brakes has disc kits for 47 and later Studebakers but that doesn’t really help. I spoke with some local car club people and they said that often they will keep the drum brakes but add a modern brake booster and dual chamber master cylinder from a vehicle such as a Nissan (apparently the booster is small). Has any forum membere done such an upgrade on their vehicle, and if so, can you describe what equipment/process was used? I am also posting this inquiry to the SDC forum. Thanks in advance.
  11. Thanks, Studerex. As long as points won't get deducted for not having them when judged.
  12. Greetings all! Can someone tell me whether the front fender spear was standard equipment on the 41 Commander? I have seen photos of Commanders with and without them. The reason I am asking is because later in August I have entered the car to be judged at the regional SDC meet and with the other "non stock" features of the car it may lose more points than I want therefore I'm thinking of moving it to the display only category. Thanks in advance for the info. I have included a photo of a Commander with the piece I am talking about circled.
  13. Thanks Roger and Stude8 for the replies. Stude8-I will definitely try your suggestion although I will have to wait a few months for the temperature to get to 70 degrees. Cheers! Brian
  14. Greetings all, I recently purchased a 41 Commander and I am waiting for her to be transported to her new home. Meanwhile, I have many questions but will start with two. 1. the car has only one keyed entry on the front passenger door. Was this typical and, if so, does anyone know the reasoning behind having only one keyed entry? 2. The previous owner rechromed everything. How does one paint the red accents over the chrome? I have attached two pictures (I hope). Any and all help is welcome. Cheers! Brian

  16. Hello all I have encountered a couple of problems with my 71 Riv that stump me. Problem #1: Passenger front cornering turn signal does not work, ie. does not come on at all when turn signal lever is in right turn position. Background info: ALL other turn indicators work. Bulb lights when Park lights are turned on. Bulb socket, when metered, indicates that the current fluctuates sufficient5ly to make the bulb flash intermittently. Bulb tested on drivers side socket and is OK. Any ideas? Problem #2: Wipers do not work. Background info: Fuse OK Switch replaced last year. Wiper motor rebuilt last year. Metering indicates power going to the motor even when the switch is off. Any help would be appreciated. Brian
  17. Jason, I did email Mike with my pics but have not yet received a reply. I also emailed Ken at Wheatbelt and he replied saying that he may have a parts car with these pieces in about two weeks. I just wondered if any forum members might have had the trim going spare in their "inventory". Thanks! Brian
  18. Yes, Bob, I agree. I checked with two of the vendors listed in the Riview but so far neither has this trim yet. I was hoping to perhaps find some other leads. Brian Schuppert ROA #11905
  19. My 71 Riv is missing the stainless trim that goes on the rear fender around the tail light (pictures attached). Does anyone have these for sale or know of someone who might? Thanks!
  20. I also use 303 annually on my vinyl siding. Good thing the house isn't very big!
  21. Thanks Jim and Ed for the advice. I am grateful that two such august ROA members took the time to reply to this thread. I also posed this question to the Yahoo boattail group and got similar replies. The land yacht is now getting body work done (lower quarters, trunk pan, repaint, etc.) and the shop also has an interior restoration "division". I have talked to them and they will do the repair. I just like to try to do the "minor" jobs myself and was hoping that this one fell into that category. Cheers!
