  2. Hi Grant, Is this your car or could it be mine? The seat cover looks very familiar to me. Best regards from Germany Ulrich PS: if still needed I can take pictures in high resultion of that area.
  3. Hi, during the engine's rebuild the dipstick got lost. Does someone have one as a spare? Regards from Germany Ulrich
  4. Interested as well. If it can be used for 12V as well it will be usable up to the end of 50's. Ulrich

    6v vs 12v

Sounds like a good idea. I will try to put the Optima into the old NAPA housing. Maybe it will be higher but this should be no problem. Uli

    6v vs 12v

I'm going with the 6V as well. To be on the save side I do have a Optima Yellow 6V in the trunk to be able to start the engine always. The standard 6V battery from NAPA is working well. As already mentioned keeping the connectors in good condition will help to stay with 6V. Uli
  7. If it's the same like '39 Special I can make some photos showing the assembly. br Uli
  8. Don't go for a '39! There are enough in Germany now I'll visit California end of march. If I see something interesting from that era I will let you know. best regards Ulrich
  9. I would like to put another license plate holder onto my '39 special. Therefore I'm looking for the original bracket to use it on the other side as well. br Uli
  10. If the '39 piston is the same I can send you one of mine. I rebuild the engine with 0.030 pistons last year and have the old pistons still there. I need to check if there are still standard bore (but I guess they are). I've no clue how much shipping from Germany will cost. Uli
  11. I saw that typo as well and modified the picture slightly to prevent "missunderstandings" during the technical inspection procedure Uli
  12. I found it online : Thx to Buick Car Club of Australia Inc. in N.S.W. - Home Page Uli

  14. Wow! Do you have this book? and if yes, can you scan that article and send it by email? If not I'll try to get a copy somewhere. Uli
  15. Dear Forum, is there any "official" top speed for this model written somewhere? I checked the english sales brochure and a german brochure printed by GM in Switzerland but couldn't get any information regarding top speed. Can u help? Uli
  16. Is this bulb on eBay the same? best regards Uli
  17. I bought a NOS Temp Gauge with bulb together from an eBay guy for 100$. Because I'm in Florida at the moment I could let it shipped within the US and will take it back home. My trials to get the sender and tube repaired were not successful. br Uli
  18. Hi, as far as I know there is a small splash shield which is visible if you open the fuel door. Does anyone have one a can share detailed pictures to rebuild it? I just saw it once on another '39 so I'm not sure it's original. Best regards Uli
  19. I checked it yesterday by myself. The whole assembly seems to be a little bit too big for the housing (scratching if you turn the engine). This can be solved by modifying the assembly and the housing. But the through-out bearing has no guide because the inner hole is bigger than the old one. Also the clutch fork need to be modified. We will now use the new clutch plate (diameter need to cutted 5mm) with the old assembly. I will make some photos tomorrow to show the details. Thx for your input. Uli
  20. Hi, has anyone used this clutch already? I bought it but my workshop told me it will not fit in the 1939 model 40 at all Uli
  21. You can see the bulb in the lower left corner of the picture. Instructions for repair: http://www.ply33.com/Repair/tempgauge Uli
  22. I had the same problem removing this bulb. Finally it helped to have Coca Cola more than a day around the bulb. Feel free to try. Unfortunately the tube was already broken and need to be fixed. Uli
  23. thx for the torque chart. I hope to have the car on the road end of this month. @39convetible: No rear end solution yet. But if you will find a rear end for you car you might be interested to sell your 3.90? This will be an improvement for the 4.40 in my car anyway. best regards from Germany Uli
  24. We want to reassemble the engine now. Actually we cannot find any fastening torque information for main bearings oder connecting rods in the shop manual. Is there any data sheet in the shop manual (or in any other source) or can someone tell me the correct values? In another forum I found 90-100 ft/lbs for main bearings and 40-45 for connecting rods. Can someone confirm this? best regards Uli
