  1. Hi. I've posted on the DeSoto forum, but maybe I'll have more success here. I'm looking for a 1930 DeSoto Canadian tag. Appears to be the same wording except DeSoto Motors Corp and the DeSoto logo. I'll stay tuned. regards Rick
  2. I'm not sure if walnut shell comes in different grit. It really doesn't matter. Walnut shell takes the paint off quickly and aggressively, but does not touch the metal. I have used it to clean paint off old wire wheels. Since our local facility charges by hourly use of their cabinets, it is very important to use the one with media that is most effective.
  3. We have a do-it-yourself sandblasting facility in our area with different blasting cabinets and different media. The one that is excellent for quick paint removal is walnut shell. No chemicals! After the paint is removed, a glass bead or more aggressive media can be used for rust cleanup or prepping of metal for painting.
  4. On craigslist Vancouver, BC under auto parts, 1929. 1929 Packard engine and transmission for sale. Dry stored. Ad says $20.00 make an offer.
  5. Hello Jens I have looked for the parts and come to the conclusion that the steering shaft with the worm gear as well as the steering wheel and tube were sold last year. I do still have the steering box with the other gear in it and the pitman arm shaft as well as the bearings. Would that be of any use to you? I notice that your steering box appears to be filled with grease. From my information, that creates dry cavities around the wear areas. There was a suggestion on this forum some time ago to use straight STP. regards Rick
  6. It looks like the one I have. I will check my cross reference book tomorrow and take a picture of the parts to send you. Do you have a part number? or a casting number? How long is the steering shaft? Would you want that with the worm gear?
  7. According to the DeSoto master parts book, the silverdome head for the model K is part# 40836, and the read head part# is 40834. Looks like you have a winner! regards Rick VanOene 1930CK 6whl RS coupe
  8. Hello If the steering box in a 31Chrysler CM is the same as a 31CD8 I can help you. I have one that is apart and appeared good. regards from Canada Rick VanOene
  9. Your description is exactly what I have. Does the weatherstrip mount to the top skin with adhesive, or is it a special weatherstrip that slips over the body flange? I can't imagine they had adhesives in 1930 good enough to do the job. Thanks for the help Rick
  10. Thanks for your input, but the 1930 DeSoto is a steel body with the visor mounted to the steel header. The only wood that I have is the 1" thick header on the inside of the winshield on which the crank mechanism is mounted. Still looking for help!
  11. I have the metal j strip that holds the rubber/neopreme weather stip, but the only place I can nail it would be to the wood holding the crank mechanism. That would put the weatherstrip on the inside of the windshield, allowing driving rain to go over the windshield with nowhere to go. On my car there is nothing else to nail to (unless I am missing something)
  12. Thanks for the suggestion Marty, but the tag that I have is so weathered, That I would really like to know exactly what the wording is and what it looks like. Once I have that info, I know that the technology that we have today makes it easy to make a reproduction.
  13. I have a 1930 DeSoto, with a crankup windshield, like the Chryslers. Can someone help me with a picture or sketch to show where the top weatherstrip mounts? I have a metal j-strip that is marked "top windshield weatherstrip" which was removed from the car over 30 years ago. It looks like it was nailed to the wood window crank frame. Thanks for your help. Rick
  14. My friend with the 36 has a different tag, so I'm hoping someone has a reasonable original to sell or copy Rick
  15. Thanks Marty. I checked out the website and downloaded their entire catalogue. I did not see anything for DeSoto. A friend of mine has a 1936 DeSoto rumble seat coupe. Canadian made. He will let me know if the tag on his car can be reproduced.
  16. My tag is very difficult to decifer. To the best of what I can see, it has the DeSoto coat of arms on the left. The lettering is very difficult to make out, DESOTO MOTOR CORP OF CANADA DIVISION OF CHRYSLER CORP WINDSOR, ONTARIO MADE IN CANADA this would indicate that the name tags for Dodge, Plymouth, DeSoto would be different. A good high resolution digital picture of an original is all that is needed. Thanks Rick
  17. Can anyone help? I am looking for the oval firewall tag for a Canadian 1930 DeSoto (later years may be identical) which has Chrysler Motor Corporation - Desoto _ Windsor, Ontario. The one I have is very difficult to read, as it must have been etched and not stamped. If anyone can help me find an original manufacturing tag or a very clear picture of one so that I can reproduce one, I would be for ever grateful!
  18. Hi There I have two BB1 carbs in my collection. After comparing them, it looks like the bottom castings are all the same, and the top is different depending on throat size. If you can send me a picture or outline of the joining gasket with measurements, I will take one apart and see if it is the same. I am almost certain that they are. Send me a PM with your email address and I will send some pictures. Rick VanOene
  19. According to Motors auto repair manual rod bolt tension is 45-50 ft/lbs, main bearings 75-80 ft/lbs, head bolts 65-70 ft/lbs. These are the same values for all 6 & 8 cyl engines from 1935-1948. Just wonder why it takes so many posts to get a simple answer. Hope this helps
  20. I can probably help out. Will check tomorrow. Send me a PM Rick
  21. I am looking for some help in rebuilding a 1930 Chrysler/Dodge/Desoto water pump. I could get a new shaft machined, but I am wondering if anyone has a new impeller. Part# 303401 Chilton interchange part# FC-30. If there is not a replacement or NOS impeller around, could the shaft be built up and re machined. I'm afraid to try to remove the impeller in case it gets damaged even more than corrosion has done over the years. Any help is appreciated. Rick VanOene
