  1. So I lowered my 1950 Super and the front road really hard, would slam down just on the smallest bumps. So I checked the Hydraulic fluid in the knee action shocks, there was nothing in them! So try to find the correct fluid..almost impossible.. However I went to harbor freight and found: 15 Oz. Hydraulic and Jack Oil So if you're looking for the correct fluid for those old knee action shocks, its cheap and works great!
  2. Anyone know of a good online store to a new radiator for a 1950 Buick?
  3. Because the stock height looks a little silly. Cars were up high because most roads back then were dirt, so they were extra high. I lowered it very tastefully. Its very subtle and does not effect the originally of the car. After all if i want it back, there's just coils! Its not like I chopped it!! No not a street rod. I hate street rods, don't even say that word. Its a "traditional rod" just like how it was done in the 50's. Everything thing is staying original. Might eventually get painted (same color) other then that, thats all I'm doing to it. It also rides better now because of the center of gravity is lower.
  4. Well I finally went for it and lowered my 1950 Super. Cut one coil out of each spring in the front and rear. Lowered about 3". Its just enough, not too low and still handles and drives really well. Check out the pics!
  5. Wow, thats really awesome!! Very similar to my 50' Super. Spent many years parked in a barn. Right now it has 30k miles..
  6. Just plain old Straight 30w thats what these engines are used to and so why not just use it now! I run 30w with one QT of Risoline..
  7. wow that looks great!! what a cool car!
  8. Check this out: My 50' Buick tonight at Sunset. This weekend my car is going to be featured at the Concourse D' Elegance in Forest Grove, OR. Check out the pics
  9. It looks really nice however thats not the correct color. The Hirsch Turquoise is the correct color, it has just a tad more green. This is almost a sky blue..
  10. Damn this looks really good!!! awesome job!!
  11. I used the Aluminum. Also are you planning on painting your engine too? If you do here's the correct color for that: ENGINE ENAMEL-Hirsch Automotive Products
  12. This I can actually help a lot with! Here's what you want: EXHAUST AND MANIFOLD COATING-Hirsch Automotive Products I cleaned off my entire engine block, and the manifold with engine degreaser and an old cloth. Worked great. Here's the final product: and yes its brushed and I was able to get every little inch. You just have to cut your brush handle almost off, that will let you get in all the small cracks. Take a look: <a href="http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/hillsboroman/BUICK/?action=view&current=_MG_7835.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/hillsboroman/BUICK/_MG_7835.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/hillsboroman/BUICK/?action=view&current=_MG_7832.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/hillsboroman/BUICK/_MG_7832.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/hillsboroman/BUICK/?action=view&current=_MG_7822.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/hillsboroman/BUICK/_MG_7822.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
  13. So I have a 1950 Super. I would really like to lower it, what are your thoughts / opinions? If I was to cut the coils should I cut ONE coil out of each spring to drop the car about 3 inches? Thank you
  14. Hey there might, There should be a drain plug right in the middle at the bottom of the back of the diff. (thats where mine is) Anyway, just drain her out and make to clean it up real good, new gasket and straight 90w is what you want. Take about half a gallon. I just did this on mine last week. That old original 90w was real thin and it was leaking out the bottom of the diff. Everything is great now. Napa sells straight 90w for about 12 bucks a gallon.
  15. whats with the huge firestone tires!? The car looks good, nice paint!
  16. I have to thank Pete Phillips for doing such an awesome job on this issue. Its really really good!! I enjoyed every article. I've been showing everyone I know the article on my car. I still can't believe that my car is on the cover!!! its amazing!!
  17. So what do ya think of the cover car!?
  18. yea i think what I'm gonna do it keep changing the filter until all that crap is out of it. I changed the tank in my 52' chevy and that was a hassle..so we'll see how bad this filter gets. I drove around yesterday and so far its clean so maybe that was it. That one had been on there since November
  19. So check this out. Was driving this morning on the freeway about 55-60mph and it felt it hesitate for a second, then i let off the gas and then slowing accelerated and it acted like it was loosing power, and felt like the tranny way slipping and just not going. So I managed to baby her home and stop and get a new coil on the way home also. Installed the new coil and took her for a spin, no problems at all....until tonight, I decided I better take her up to 50-60mph and she did it again...acted like the tranny was slipping and felt like it had a real heavy load, so I thought well maybe it could be as simple as a fuel filter. Sure enough my 1st filter in line is almost totally clogged!! Attached is a pic...(i will be changing that out tomorrow!)
  20. I like to have hard copies myself, but a pdf would be cool to have as well.
