  1. Cleaning out the carbon out of the head and top of the piston. The carbon would build up and glow red causing the engine to fire on one or two cylinders with the ignition off.
  2. Part of a 6V fan motor, missing the armature, bearings, end cap and a bit of insulation.
  3. How big is the opening? 1/4" set screw?
  4. I had a very rusty 6 cylinder 1970 Plymouth Satellite that I pulled the engine when the frame broke above the front left wheel. I wouldn't mind picking up another, I think that was one of the best modern body styles.
  5. I have seen one that was re-cored and had maybe a 1/4" thick section of the honeycomb in front. There is a place in England that makes the proper core and also a place in the middle east, Pakistan or Turkey ?
  6. Try turning it over with the crank. From the way it looks it may have up to 8 stuck valves and a couple of stuck pistons.
  7. Welcome Post some photos of your car and any questions you have are always welcome.
  8. The car might not be repairable from getting wet? I had a 1963 Rambler American that a drunk towboat cook drove into the Mississippi with only the trunk above water. He gave me the car and I had it driving the next day. I drove it for 3 years without a problem.
  9. On a heat shield there is a reflective coating, most likely an acid might remove it. Who is going to look at a heat shield?
  10. Wisconsin is one of the easiest stats to get a title. If you have a frame number or a serial number you can apply for a title. This was passed only for pre-title cars and trucks
  11. I would go the black walls myself but the thin whites are OK. The red lines look out of place to me.
  12. If it is like what the photo shows get it running and stopping. Parts are easy to get, $500 spent on brakes could add $5,000 to the sale price.
  13. That is only one of the reasons I don't live in those areas. I have a bit over one acre and if there is a blade of grass I get the weed killer out. I kind of like 4 inches of rain a year and 350 days of sunshine.
  14. Sometimes details the details are time savers not to mention parts identification.
  15. At an estate sale I picked up a title, serial number plate and a black & white photo of a 1924 Packard sedan that was part of the WWII scrap drive. I framed it all and put it up on my shop office wall. It was up for a couple of years and a friend of mine finely looked at it, it had his Grand father's name on it. It went to a good home.
  16. Without the size,of the shoes I say "may fit some Clark forklifts and some Airestream trailers"
  17. Simple Green and hot water, Evaporust can't eat up the oily sludge. The water jacket of the block and the head will not blow apart from a pressure washer. There may be a mess form blow back, put on a raincoat. Do the radiator separate, plug the top and fill it from the bottom and let it sit till cool , drain from the top (no pressure)
  18. As a kid that did not want to waste dud firecrackers. I would empty out the black powder onto masking tape. A length of stranded wire was stripped in the center and all but one strand was cut off. Wrap it all up and it was ready to install on the ignition, headlights, wipers but backup lights were the best.
  19. The "D" is for dimming (dash lights) so it is not a switch. Look at early 1950s dashes to find that style knob.
  20. Steve mentioned the Armstrong steering but also there is a gyro effect on the tall wheels can be felt at a good speed.
  21. Post a photo of each with a yard stick
  22. I wonder what fuel that gas tank heater used, the wood in the box would not fit.
  23. My first impression was a Buick GTO with a Pontiac front Buick rear.
