  1. Over at 65GS.com, we have a thread listing parts suppliers and other helpful information for the '64 - '66 Specials, Skylarks and Gran Sports. There may be other sources out there, some of the members have used In Line with good results. Loren
  2. Inline Tube shows a listing for '64 Le Sabre in their catalog. Link to Inline tube page : https://www.inlinetube.com/_p/prd14/2766993511/product/64-lesabre-wildcat-123"wb-3-8"-trans-lines-blt6401 I did not see the transmission application in the description. Loren
  3. Hi Schmiddy, OK, I see that the '65 Riviera lens is much different then the '63 and '64. It appears the '65 would be a greater task to duplicate. Loren
  4. Question, is the black color painted to the plastic on the '65 lens ? I know on the '63 & '64, the black is a piece of metal that is painted black . The indicator letters are white and the edge is a light blue. My initial thoughts would be to use clear plexi-glass with the edges cut to duplicate the original design including the slight recess. Followed by applying the lettering to the back side using a stencil as I did for the '63 lens I previously made. With that one, I reused the original plastic after cleaning and polishing it. The black metal backer , I hand made from thin aluminum, acid etched and painted. Worked well to give the illumination as original did. I have no idea of the interest or need for something like these. Loren
  5. Drew, I should have checked the size before I made the post. My apologies for the inconvenience. Loren
  6. Good catch there Ed. I pulled out a couple of Riviera lens and a lens from a '65-'66 Skylark center console. Definitely a size difference . If I had a '65 Riviera lens to copy the graphics from, I think I could re-make these . It doesn't look very complicated and the graphics Roxy did for her '63 Riviera turned out fantastic . Presently working on making a green replacement lens for the '64-'68 Skylark signal light in the dash. I have got ten a good result with some green plexi-glass. 7. Good point Ed. Since I have both original Skylark and a '63 Riviera lens here can check that . Thanks, Loren
  8. Found this at Shift Works. http://www.shiftworks.com/buick.htm Loren
  9. I believe the build date is the fourth week of February. I may be incorrect being you have a '66. For '64- '65 the data plate number is for the month and the letter represents the week of that month. Loren
  10. I see that the CARS description says '66 - '70. Looks like the one in the picture from Clarks Corvair , Inc. Loren
  11. Pictures from the Hemmings add. Loren Seller’s Description: This matching numbers one owner 1965 Buick Riviera Gran Sport comes with all of its documentation from the day it was purchased including gas log books with every gas fill up and mileage. 12. We don't plan to have the Riviera judged. Been through that with the Skylarks and Gran Sport. Now, just want to enjoy the cars and the good Buick folk. The '63 is early enough that the spare is on the floor, good point there Ed. I will have to get a look at those brackets in the trunk too. Thanks , Loren
  13. It looks like the same switch that is used on '65-'67 Skylark and Gran Sport models with floor console automatic. Would need to check my Buick parts book to be sure. And Ed is correct in that it is different then a column shift car. With the exception being, '64 or '65 column shift Wildcat used floor shift neutral safety switch . telriv is right, they are fairly easy to refurbish. I have found it common for the thin connection on the outside to be burnt. See attached picture. The same connection is under the lower terminal. Loren
  14. Ed, I agree, the shadows definitely make it difficult to see detail. That said, I have no idea if one or the other would do the job better then the other. The jack on the left in the picture , looks like it may fit the bumper better. Not knowing what an original '63 jack looks like, I'm kind of at a loss . As we discussed earlier, I would [hopefully] not have to ever make use of it. Loren
  15. Tom, I think that could be correct. I know that the '65 Skylarks had two or three different ones per my '65 parts book. I guess, whether it is the solid T looking one or the tubular shaped one is not a big concern. If it works correct with the bumper, we probably should be good to go. Loren
  16. Hey Don, Thank you for the picture. Now I have a much better idea of what I need to look for . Loren
  17. For Sale I have the following floor console parts for sale. They are in my opinion, driver condition. Thanks for looking, Loren Parts are also posted on 65GS.com.
  18. Thank you Tom, the wiring diagram in the FSM is such small print, I missed the circuit breaker as being in the switch. Loren
  19. I noticed from the wiring diagram and shop manual there is not a headlamp relay in the circuit. Am I correct on this ? ???? You are correct, there is NOT a relay or a circuit breaker in the headlamp circuit. There is a fuse though and I am surprised it has not burned, [blown] out. You most definitely need to use relays for the load created with the QH lamps. One relay for the low beam and one relay for the high beam circuits. You also need to upgrade the wire size. What is most likely happening , is the wires and connections are getting over heated. The overheating is caused by too much amperage draw for the size of the wires. Attached is an example of the circuit design needed. The wire gauge from the junction block to the relays should be 10AWG. It should be protected by installing a 25 amp fuse or a 14AWG fusible link near the junction block. This 10AWG wire is going to have a split in it to power each relay. For added safety, a 15 amp fuse can be inserted into each of the separate leads before the relays. The new wires from the relays to the headlamp bulbs is 12AWG. The ground wire from the headlamp bulbs could use 14AWG or 12AWG. As KongaMan stated, - Your existing lamps will be brighter because there is less voltage drop at the lights. - You'll save your switch from burning up. Very important, these switches were not designed to handle the kind of load draw the QH system is creating. - You can run higher wattage lamps. Depending on the total amount of accessories that are being used, an upgrade in alternator output size may be necessary. AWG means American Wire Gauge. Loren
  20. I question powder coating springs being a good idea. One of the '65 Skylark Gran Sport guys did that to his restoration. The car was finished just before the 2015 nationals. While the car sat on the show field, we noticed it appeared to look lower from day to day. He ended up needing to replace them. One thought we had , was that the heat used in curing the powder coating may have changed the temper of the spring and weakened them. Just an observation mind you, Loren
  21. Ed, I agree about not using to lift the car. A floor jack at suspension or frame point is much better in my opinion. I came across the hook and spring, found the accelerator pedal under the driver seat, but no jack. Thanks for the reply, Loren
  22. I have done a search here for what I should be looking for in regards to the correct jack for Roxy's '63 Riviera and not come up with a good reply. Is it the solid "T" type or is it the "D" style? Loren
  23. Hi Tom, I just checked with a good friend that has a '66 Skylark Gran Sport, to clarify my recollection. The "Gran Sport" badge is on the grille and on the rear panel between the tail lights. In addition, there is a "GS" badge on each side rear quarter. Interesting that the '65 Riviera Gran Sport and '65 Skylark Gran Sport shared one of the badges. Since I am just starting to learn about the first generation Riviera's, I have a long way to go. lol Loren
  24. Tom, thank you for bringing up the badging for the '65 Skylark Gran Sport. The three body styles used the same ornamentation with a difference in that the side emblem for a convertible body was on the quarter panel near the rear. The hard top and thin pillar coupe had the side emblem on the sail panel. All three body styles had the GranSport emblem on the trunk lid in '65 and looks like the sail panel/ quarter panel badge. The grille badge had two versions, an early rectangular emblem and one that is more of a script with the "G" and "S" larger then the other letters of the emblem. If I recall correctly, "GS" badging on a Skylark body appeared first in '67. I know '66 still used Gran Sport badges with the "G" and the "S" in red. The rest of the letters in "Gran Sport" were not painted, but were solid and chrome finish. Some pictures attached. Top is the early grille badge. The middle picture is the second, more common , grille badge. The bottom picture is the sail panel / quarter panel badge. The trunk badge looks like the third picture but is pinned on the back side differently. Loren@65GS.com
