  1. I'm talking about the outside cloth not the head liner. I saw on a forum for another make of car that they had some kind of tensioner screws behind the headliner. There must be some kind of fix for this short of a complete replacement, right?
  2. The cloth on my top has apparently stretched and is sagging between the ribs. Is there a way to tighten/adjust the cloth? I've never owned a rag top car before but I assume there is a way to increase the tension. TIA
  3. Same thing happened to me. Smelled awful when I first used the fan last spring. After a day or two, the odor just disappeared on its own.
  4. Hello, My muffler is falling apart (failed inspection). I would like to find a good used one or....? Anyone have a spare they are willing to sell? Cheers, Andreas
  5. Thanks, but I want a little bit of an upgrade in terms of air flow and sound. Do they have other OEM replacements we can use other than exhaust? Went to their website but none of the links to their parts lists worked.
  6. Sorry. 1989. Originally an 8v but re-powered with a 16v.
  7. My muffler failed its Virginia safety inspection. Any recommendations on a good replacement muffler that has a nice, deep sound and maybe adds an hp or two? I've seen others on this forum mention the Dynomax Turbo. Anyone have opinions one way or another? From the photos on their website, the 17488 looks like the closest match for the TC (even though they say it won't fit). Any insights appreciated. I have to get moving on this as the local cops seem to have little else to do but troll commuter parking lots looking for any reason to slap an expensive ticket on your car...
  8. Guys, The a/c no longer blows cold. My guess is the coolant has leaked out (will take it next week to the mechanic to confirm). Can I still get the same type of refrigerant oil as was originally in there? If not, what kinds of mods have to be done to accept the newer refrigerants? TIA, yellowdog
  9. Damn. I have to wait until next summer! At least by then the memory of this summer vacation in Kabul will be fading away. One of the first things I plan to do after I get back is to take a long drive somewhere in my TC. I don't care where...
  10. Here's a hare brained thought. Is there a gasket from another car that is close enough to alter to fit ours? Was just trolling on ebay and found a valve cover gasket for the Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC DOHC. Looks similar in layout to ours. Does anyone have the dimensions of our gasket to see how close the two might be?
  11. So what's the biggest tire size that can fit on our cars without any rubbing issues?
  12. Are there ever any meets in the mid-Atlantic or even New England areas?
  13. I would like to throw a question out there and see what people think. When I got my engine rebuilt, a temporary seal was put in that was supposed to last until someone came out with real gaskets. The only other option was to use some kind of sealer (silicon?) instead. I was told this wasn't pursued as it would "glue" the valve cover into its seat. Given our circumstances, is this a viable alternative or will it cause more problems than it solves.
  14. :confused::confused: Maybe :confused::confused:
  15. Was just taking a little mental break at work (which, for the past 3 months, has been a cramped office on a military base in Kabul) and checking the news when a headline caught my eye "10 Cars That Probably Should Not have Hit The Road." Somehow, I just knew what was coming but, like when you get that thick envelope from the IRS, I couldn't stop myself from peeking. Yep, you guessed it. Our favorite piece of iron came in at #5. The author, Justin Lloyd-Miller, had this to say: Though intentions were pure (as they most often are), the Chrysler TC by Maserati was a Frankenstein of vehicle, with adopted parts and badges thrown together to create what would ultimately become a bit of an embarrassment to the two companies it was trying to promote. Over three years, the car only sold 7,000 examples, and successfully butchered the friendship between Chrysler and the Italian automaker. Source: 10 Cars That Probably Should Not Have Hit the Road | Wall St. Cheat Sheet - Part 6 So we share the limelight with other such luminaries as the Pinto, Edsel, Aztex, Pacer, and Yugo. Really? Why won't they leave our poor cars alone???
  16. Not to hijack this thread but I am also curious about a replacement exhaust--but for a 1989 TC with a 16v motor. My current one will not pass inspection. I would like a set up that gives me a couple more horses to play with plus has a deeper, more mellow sound. I went back into the archives and saw someone installed a high flow spun cat and a magnaflow ss muffler from Jegs. He seemed fairly pleased with the results. Anyone else out there have some insights to share on this? TIA
  17. I am interested in a new cover for the driver's side, but only if it is an exact match both in terms of color (ginger) and texture. My car was built in March 1989.
  18. Ghostymosty, The donor car that I got the 16v powerplant (for VIN 202012) from had a VIN that ended in 204351. Pretty sure it was burgundy. Don't know about the CD player, the wood grain, or the fuzzy speakers. The shell has been junked. Yellowdog
  19. Ghostymosty, Will have to get back to you on that VIN. My files on the car are in commercial storage so I can't access them right now.
  20. You reminded me that I wanted to replace the missing bulb to see if I still had good connections. What size bulb will fit that socket? If the wire turns out to be bad, I'll buy that wire you if you haven't sold it.
