  1. Hi Larry, I have never had any problem with my '37 Buick Roadmonster overheating. However, I am blessed (?) with two of the most notorious overheating cars ever made--a 1937 Cord and a 1940 LaSalle. Here's what I have learned that works. Use any or all and you'll see improvement. 1. Install a good electric fuel pump as your primary fuel pump. Avoid the AC Autopulse (and other brand clones) click-click-click-click diaphragm pump--I have experienced pinholes in the creases of the bellows, and that means that your car STOPS, always in the worst imaginable time and place. I use a rotary pump, 6 volt, easily available, lifetime warranty. I have a dash shut-off switch for it and I power it with a relay. I run it full time, and I by-passed the mechanical pump. 2. Insulate the fuel line under the hood. 3. Install sheet metal heat shields between the exhaust manifolds and the fuel line. 4. Install a 6 volt radiator fan. This really helps. I installed a dash on/off switch and powered it with a relay. They are available --->> IN SIX VOLTS !!!! <--- at Scotts Cooling Fans, 1-800-272-3267. His web site is not up yet. I stayed away from a presurized cap--I was concerned about the seals in the water pump and how much pressure they were designed to handle. Hope this helps. --Tom .
  2. Hi Brian, To upload photos you first have to post them online elsewhere. I copied posting instructions from the Auburn Cord Duesenberg site, with a few revisions. (Acknowlegdement to Bill Hummel of the ACD Club for these instructions) First take a great picture of your car! It should be reduced to 640x480 or 800x600 at the largest. Put your photos in a file on your computer. Here's how to post a picture on this website: a) Create a FREE account at http://WWW.PHOTOBUCKET.COM for image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing. Click on the Upload Photos box to post your pix to your page on PHOTOBUCKET, following photobucket's instructions (It's easy). c) After the picture(s) you want is(are) uploaded, put your courser on the thumbnail photo--do NOT click. A window will drop down at the bottom of the thumbnail. Move your courser to the line that starts with "IMG." Then left-click once. It will highlight itself. Press CNTR-C to copy the highlighted address to your clipboard or buffer. d) Go back to your Buick message board thread. Hit CNTR-V to copy the address into your text and posting. It will look like a web address: Repeat the process for each photo you wish to upload into the forum. When your posting is opened, your photo should be there. If this is just too much to deal with, email the pix to me and I'll post them for you: thomasrparkinson@yahoo.com. Here's an example I posted by following the above directions to be sure they worked. My '37 Roadmonster all gussied up for the kids' wedding. http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt36/trp3141592/BuickWeddingPhotoB.jpg' alt='BuickWeddingPhotoB.jpg'> --Tom .
  3. Hurrah !! Now what's up with that exhaust system? Got mice in the muffler? :-) --Tom
  4. Hi Brian, I hope my posting was helpful. From looking over the posts, and considering your mechanic's uncertainty about the timing chain, I am betting on the chain being off by one tooth. Be sure to consider the slack in the chain--the manual tells you how much "floppy" is acceptable. Too much and it can jump a tooth--usually in the worst possible location under the worst possible conditions. Please be sure to let us all know what you find. --Tom
  5. Hi y'all. I came across this thread as I was looking for other info on my 37 Roadmaster. I looked to see if my 1940 MoToRs handbook might have info on the timing gears, especially the 10/11 controversy. Well, pictures are worth 1000 words, and the MoToRs book has a clear photo to work from and clear text to follow. I'll try to attach links here: http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt36/trp3141592/DSC08414.jpg http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt36/trp3141592/DSC08418.jpg http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt36/trp3141592/DSC08417.jpg I have no idea how the AACA forum posts pix, so I am going to try the method used in the Auburn Cord Duesnberg Club, with which I am more familiar. With any luck I may be able to attach photos of the pages right here: I also tried direct upload. We'll see what happens. Hopefully enough of this info to be helpful will actually manage to post. ---Tom
