  1. Dear Friends: I just traded several of my early engines for the enclosed De Dion Bouton engine, serial # 12,237. According to the VCCGB registry, that would make the motor a 1899,and a 2 .25 HP. This engine was used on tricycles, quadricycles, and motorcycles. It has the rare accessory of a watercooled head,to compliment the aircooled jug,and raise the HP slightly. If you do not like the watercooled head, you can always get an original or repro. aircooled head from people like Austin Parkinson in the UK,and sell the watercooled head,as they are in much demand. Please see the last enclosed photo of the DDB powered engine with a watercooled head,on a 1900 Orient tricycle formerly owned by Reed Martin of Maryland. As I recall a 1900 2 3/4 HP engine has the same stroke, and 10 MM more bore, but I am not certain. This motor was brought in from Europe a decade ago by Arthur Spangar of Wisconsin, and according to him was fully rebuilt when he bought it. The photos bear that out. These are the only photos I have of it. I will have it in my possession in 2 weeks. Then upon request,I will send you some more detailed photos, and I will carefully examine it. I believe for a couple of hundered dollars I can DHL or Fed Ex or US Postal service it directly to an overseas buyer. Will ship for actual costs. Price for crating and shipping inside the USA is an additional $100. The price of the engine is $6,900. Let me know if you are interested. Cheers,George Albright email; gnalbright@gmail.com cell 352 843 1624

  3. Dear Friends The planetary transmission with the square at the bottom of the output shaft has been IDed by a friend as an early Buick planetary transmission. I own both of these. Is it a Buick trans, and if so what year? Can anyone ID the other trans? No names or ID marks on either. Inside condition unknown. Trans # one: 16 inches wide overall with the shaft. Bolts onto flywheel. Drum is 11 inches in diameter and drum is 5 1/4 inches wide. Trans #2 19 inches overall with shaft. Bolts onto flywheel. Drum is 10 1/2 inches in diameter. Drum is 4 1/2 inches wide. Weight of either is 60-75 lbs. Both are for sale for $1,500 each. 7. Dear Friends, I have decided to put up for sale TWO extremely rare planetary transmissions, for 1900, 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1904, 1905, 1906 cars, highwheeler and automobiles. They are $1,500 EACH,your choice. These were used on most early autos, such as Curved Dash Olds Oldsmobile, Ford, Cadillac, Packard, Reo, Rambler, Northern, Pierce, Peerless, Pierce Arrow, Waltham Orient, De Dion Bouton, Aster, etc. rather than sliding gear trans. These planetary transmissions are almost impossible to find any more, but are essential to the restoration of any early car. These 2 bolt directly onto the side of the flywheel, and the drive chain then runs downward from the planetary trans. to the drive sprocket in the center of the rear axle such as a Weston Mott, Timken, or American Ball Bearing axle, and came on one and two cylinder cars. You do NOT need a cone, dog or in and out clutch with these. Stored inside in Ohio since the 1930s. I will UPS in the US or overseas for actual costs. Have more photos of each trans. You can request by email to me at gnalbright@gmail.com Again email me directly or call my cell after 10 AM to 10 PM EST with questions or requests for more photos. 9. Up for sale for $2,800 is a rare piece worldwide, and especially located in the USA! This Radiator from the 1899, 1900, 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904 period was made in France. The brass title says: " REFROID R Cloisonne G.A Rtesgdg PARIS." I did a Google search on this name and nothing came up. At the turn of the century virtually every automobile car company in France, England, UK and the United States bought their radiators from outside parts house sources, rather than making them. Thus this radiator is historically correct for any Veteran car that is used on the London to Brighton Run, put on by the VCCGB. It is quite large at 27 1/2 inches wide, 14 1/2 inches high, with a 3-inch metal band around the entire radiator. The hole in the center for the crank handle to go through is 1 1/4 inches in diameter. It weighs approx. 40 pounds. It would be correct for any large one cylinder, or two, or four cylinder vehicle. It appears to be excellent overall, with older leakage only evident around the plug at one corner, that needs to be resoldered. I assume the tubing is copper. Dry humidity inside storage for many decades. Autocar, Peerless, Pope, CVG and Pierce Arrow used a similar radiator on their multi cylinder models in 1903,1904,1905. So did De Dion Bouton, Dedion, Panhard Levassor, Darracq, MMC, Mercedes Benz, Renault, and many makes from England and France during the 1900-04 period. This would be a killer radiator for an early race, racer, speedster, racing car as well! It mounts under the frame in front of the car. Will pack and ship in the USA and overseas for actual costs. More photos avail. by email. Good Luck! George Albright, Ocala,Fla. Email; gnalbright@gmail.com <!-- End Description -->

  11. Dear Friends: The 1904 Brennan project was sold, but the buyer was unable to arrange his financing. Thus I have lowered the price $3,000 to $35,000. In addition, I have decided to also sell the 1903-04 Brennan TWO cylinder 12 HP engine that can be seen in several of the photos. The buyer of the project will have the option of buying the two cylinder motor for $2,800 more. More photos of the project and the 2 engines available by email by emailing me at gnalbright@gmail.com Up for sale is my finest piece. I acquired this a decade ago, and shared its existence with only several of my closest horseless carriage collector friends. I have come to realize that I have too many other projects at this time, and it might be time to hand it over to someone who will get it constructed sooner than later. This is one of my most amazing finds in my 30 years of collecting pre 1905 cars and parts. I purchased the enclosed from a N.J. collector who has a fully restored 1900 Brennan car. He bought the enclosed from a gentleman, whose uncle was the shop foreman of the Brennan Company of Syracuse, N.Y. when they closed the factory in the 1950s. This appears to be the test chassis the factory used to test its various engines at the turn of the century, along with one of those engines and transmissions from 1904. The uncle died years later, and left the enclosed to his nephew. Enclosed is a notarized affidavit the seller of the project provided me, when I bought the project. The Brennan Company is a well known engine builder to early car buffs, having started furnishing companies and individuals engines in 1897. Around 1900 they started providing complete cars for sale, in very small quantities, on an as ordered basis, much like Dykes and Neustadt Perry of St. Louis. There are several 1900-04 Brennan cars in the USA, and at least one in England. Each one is different. All are one or 2 cylinder. Brennan continued building auto, marine and industrial engines into the teens, and switched to building just marine engines from the 1920s, all the way up to the 1950s, when they went out of business. In the 1950s they also built a line of lawnmowers. No one has ever seen the existence of a 4 cylinder 20 HP overhead pushrod engine like this. Add to that, the brass data plate riveted to the block is stamped engine #1, 1904!!! (see enclosed photo of the data plate) This engine is air cooled and looks almost identical in setup and size to a 1904 Franklin 20 HP engine! It is in like new condition. Even the paper tags are still on the engine timer! The motor has been run at sometime, as there is a slight amount of soot on the spark plugs. The 3 speed sliding gear transmission is stamped Syracuse Gear Company, a Brennan Company, and patent dated Feb. 1904 on the cover. It is BRAND NEW! Notice how the mounting ears have not been drilled! In the Brennan literature I have, this transmission is shown with this size engine. Finally is the unusual riveted "I" shaped frame, that is identical to the frame in the 1905 Brennan running gear pictured here, from a 1905 catalogue. The frame has several drilled holes in various places up front, which leads me to believe this was the factory's "mule chassis' to mount and try various 2 and 4 cylinder engines in, from the 1903-05 period. I also received the original 2 seats, which must have been mounted on the chassis when they tested engines, the front axle, cone clutch, engine fan, 4 cylinder coil box, etc. I have also acquired a beautiful correct early rear axle and drive shaft, 2 early steering columns, one short and one long, and beautiful early copper gas tank, and a superb set of Midgley 30 X 3 wheels with almost brand new tires, which were removed from a fully restored 1905 Cadillac. According to the 1905 Brennen catalogue, the cars would have used 30 X 3 wheels. As a superb bonus, I acquired a MATCHED SET of pre 1910 wicker Bleriot type airplane aircraft seats, with leather arm rests! This virtually everything you need to build an authentic 1904 racer racing speedster car is enclosed. I cannot guarantee it, but this vehicle may be eligible for the London To Brighton Run for Veteran pre 1905 vehicles. Pre 1905 four cylinder vehicles are very rare and valuable the world over. This is true especially in the USA where very few cars were built with 4 cylinder engines. 4 cylinder pre 1905 cars sell in the several hundreds of thousands of dollars, and up, when they do come up for sale. Thus this will be a VERY valuable car when completed, both monetarily and historically. For serious inquiries I have several emails available of 1903-05 Brennan Catalogues and ads from Horseless Age Magazine, and lots of close up photos. I will assist in arranging shipping both in the USA and overseas. There are probably less than a dozen pre 1905 racing cars in existence in the entire world! All of the parts are in superb condition. This will be a simple project to complete, since it is an air-cooled engine and will not require a radiator, water pump, etc. You just need to make a false front radiator. I believe the price of $35,000 is very reasonable for this project. Questions or inquiries for photos and info to me at gnalbright@gmail.com or call my cell 352.843.1624, 10 AM to 9 PM Eastern Standard Time. Good Luck! George Albright, Ocala, Fla.

Questions or inquiries for photos and info to me at gnalbright@gmail.com or call my cell 352.843.1624, 10 AM to 9 PM Eastern Standard Time. Good Luck! George Albright, Ocala, Fla. 16. Please see auction # 260546840280. Listed under Other Makes,1939 and older collector cars catagory. 1904 Brennan is in the auction title. Up for auction is my finest piece. I believe the 'Buy It Now" price of $38,000 is very reasonable for this project. If you decide to purchase it, please contact me, and pay me through wire or check. 17. Please See Ebay auction #260546963203. Up for auction is the largest and rarest engine in my collection of 1900-04 motors. This little known company was a propriety engine builder in Lansing and Detroit, during the 1902-1912 period. They built engines only and sold them to individuals, companies, and parts houses like Neustadt Perry and A.L. Dyke, both of St. Louis, Mo. for resale in their catalogues. They were marketed to car companies as factory and replacement engines. (See enclosed Neustadt Perry catalogue page, where they are selling this engine under their catalogues name). Thus this engine is a correct historical replacement engine for ANY 1900,1901,1902,1903,1904 car, auto, or automobile. This engine is one cylinder Packard quality and size. It is HUGE, at 8 HP, 350 lbs. and 5 1/4 inch bore and 6-inch stroke!! It is about 1 1/4 times bigger than a 1900-04 Curved Dash Oldsmobile Olds engine. I removed this engine from a 1903 Conrad steam car, which had been converted to gas power. The buyer of the Conrad wanted to re power the Conrad with steam power, and I kept this engine. The car and this motor had been in enclosed dry storage in Canton, Ohio since the 1930s, in the Jim Lynch collection, which I bought in 1994. The engine comes with its beautiful original water pump with Neustadt Perry cast into the side of it (not pictured) and a sprocket setup off of the engine to chain drive the water pump and a transmission. The transmission was hanging under the engine in the Conrad. Also enclosed is the original copper or brass gas tank. I have only seen one other of these engines, in a HCCA magazine issue a decade ago, where an 1897 Olds Electric Trap was repowered around 1903 with one of these engines, with an Upton transmission. From the ads it appears Beilfuss started building this engine sometime in early 1903, and continued until spring of 1905, when they moved to selling a 2-cylinder version. There are no dates or serial numbers I have found on the motor, so no one is going to dispute it was built in 1903 or 1904. Notice the VERY unusual shaped combustion chamber on the front of the engine. There are some engine size measurements listed in one of the enclosed ads. I also measured the engine. Its overall length from front to back is 38 inches. The flywheel is 3 1/4 inches wide and 20 1/2 inches in diameter. The head jug is between 7 1/2 and 8 inches wide!! HUGE! Plus a 6-inch stroke! I have found no visible cracks on the engine. The timing bevel gears on the side of the engine look like new, as does the original engine timer. I suspect the engine has had very little use. Turns over easily with good compression. This would be perfect for powering an early speedster, racer or race or racing! I believe the buy it now price of $6,900 firm is VERY fair. More photos available by email to serious buyers. You'll never get a chance like this again. Please DO NOT hit the button if you want the motor. Email us and we will end the auction. Please pay by check or bank wire. Will assist with USA and overseas shipping.
