I owned a body shop two shops actually for over 35 years,I’ve seen bonds go bad in the first year, and I’ve seen it last over twenty,I’ve seen lead work go to hell after the first year, and I’ve seen it last many many years,I believe it’s all in the preparations,I had a metal man from Mexico work for me for over 20 years whenever he did lead when finished he would always wipe it down with vinegar, never ever seen any of his work go bad,but he was also the guy that came to work in a white work shirt and 90 % of the time it was white when he went home

This is a question for carb king, not to get off the subject I know you don’t think much of the tillotson carbs because of the die cast, but how about the replacement tillotson,my 31 devaux has a replacement carb it’s a tillotson jr 2 a are these any better I believe they where sold in the 40s and fifties

I don’t think most of us do it for financial gain,we do it because we love doing it,I don’t understand. Paying thousands for golf clubs and spending a Saturday chasing a ball, but those are the same people that don’t understand why we repair old cars, for years I shot skeet two days a week, spent a lot on my shotgun.,shells, and club fees,my father couldn’t understand it,he said shot guns are used for bird hunting period,I believe the e.p.a. Has a lot to do with the cost of restoration, they’ve put just about all chrome shops out of business,I know powder coasters are getting close to perfecting chrome as well as some spray on chrome, when I first got into the body shop business in the seeeventies I was doing side job paint completes for one hundred and thirty dollars,my last year as a body shop owner my material bills where always between seven and ten thousand a month without doing any completes,so between chrome paint and body and upholstery they have to be a labor of love,my motto has always been if we don’t save them who will but I know from a financial standpoint that is probably not a good motto anymore,
-
When I first started in the body shop some 55 years ago a pick hammer a bulls eye aimed and an assortment of body files is all we had, bonds was just starting out and wasn’t really successful at that time mainly because people weren’t knowledgeable on using it,I watched the painter always clean welds and lead with vinegar then metal prep then a light coat of lacquer primer

Dave if you don’t save it who will,if your looking for an investment look elsewhere, all of are cars are a labor of love

You would be surprised at what’s in the back of the movie studio wearhouse, there’s a reason they have security around them,my dad had a friend in the early sixties that worked at the studios, the he would tell of the things he saw and actually touched

I agree I believe nickel looks ideal on vintage car interior trim, sometimes chrome is a little to much

I have both a 31 and a 32 devaux,I’ve noticed these both have nickel plating on the interior bright finish window risers inside door handles dash bezels and knobs etc,it seems awful late to be using nickel was there a reason for this or was it just cheaper for the manufacturer, thanks. Dave

Not model a I believe this is 30 Chevy, possibly 29 from the looks of the frt splash apron and where the crank hole cover fits,I wasn’t aware that Chevy made a sedan delivery until 32, maybe a Canadian built vehicle, either way what a great project for someone, let’s see if this guy is negotiable, bringing it to the states maybe a problem,
