Mine has worked for the past 45+ years in my 48 T&C.
I just cleaned up the points in 1978 when I first got it.
Done a few others same way.
But best buy that NOS clock.

Fuel running down the manifold drain tube is normal after a shut down...kinda messy but Packards, Airflows all drip a tiny puddle on most shut downs.
Usually the most leakage upon a not fully warmed up engine shut down.
There is a check ball in the manifold that prevents a vacuum leak while the engine is running.
If the engine is running well other than that I'd drive it untill you are confident and have proper info to remove the carb top and be able to check the float level correctly.👍

Just open thebback...clean the contact points lightly and run it.
I've done many 1946-48 Chrysler clocks same way and they always work.
That's a nice clock.. don't guess taking it apart and possibly ruining it.

Quality engine rebuild time.

These 1941-50 DeSoto Chrysler starters are one tough fix and oh so costly.
Shouldn't be hard to fix if you really understand operation and adjustment.
Biggest problem....parts are really tough to find.

Yes in the old days you would unbolt the seal retainer plate and replace the retainer plate with attached pressed in seal as an assembly.
Today most likely you press or tap the seal out of the retainer plate.
Then find an exact correct dimension seal to replace the old seal.
Using the old seal number might make it easy to cross search to modern seal numbers.....as long as the old seal was correct for the application.

If the inner seal is leaking...which was just stated it is not...
You first must remove the inner bearing race and bearing adjustment shims. Not a quick and easy job.
The bearings front and rear look packed with clean new blue bearing grease.
Seals should be new I would hope.

Connecting 6 volts to the top right starter solenoid terminal will normally operate the starter motor.
This terminal wire is connected to the starter push button.
The top left terminal on the solenoid is the relay ground and its wire connects to the generator "ARM" stud terminal. The ground is through the generator brushes.
The solenoid relay ground is lost once the generator is charging preventing unwanted starter operation while engine is running.

All 1946-48 DeSoto and Chrysler M-5 transmissions are the same...except the E-brake drum at the back of the trans with the universal joint flange.
The Chrysler eights use their own larger size four stud U- joint flange which is part of the E-brake drum.

Also the spark plugs are now covered in excess black fuel soot.
You might want to pull one and look to see if it's black.
You need to pull the long narrow wire cover off the valve cover for plug access.
The carb needle and seat could have a speck of debris causing slight flooding and black smoke too.
Simple issues to fix.
That is a real nice 331 Hemi car!

It will soon stop showing tiny signs of leaking on your 385ci. aluminum head Imperial engine after your re-torque's.

That looks like tight access.
Typical 50's ps steering gear job...😒.

The 1949-54 chrysler six filter housing assembly I need is the shorter two bolt mount. Shorter than the 1946-48 Chrysler external oil tube type filter you mention.
The 1949-54 filter uses a band clamp to hold the cover cap onto the main housing body.
I do have a 1946-48 Chrysler M-5 inner fender panel mounted transmission relay.
Oil filter type I need.
Thanks!

The exhaust manifolds are different between the 48/51 engines.
Header pipe dump position is different.
Also have to use the original bell housing and 1946-48 M5 transmission.
The later M6 trans and bell housing won't work.

I recently looked at a Model "Y" here in the greater Seattle area.
A very unique car.
