  1. Mr Cole wrote in a long back issue about the origin, and even met descendants of John Tjaarda the designer I believe Ferdinand Porsche and Henry Ford both bought into the design, I have on occasion to visit a classic VW gathering and try to explain the heritage..pretty neat..
  2. Here is the house behind the little store, I dont know where the tourist rooms are.. maybe during depression, opened up the house to guests? Here is a little tidbit for my fellow Buckeyes...The stadium around the time of dedication, Grandpa Geo. had an Overland 90, he drove in those days...He eloped to Columbus and took these pics... Actualy Grandma Eunice was the shutterbug!
  3. I wish I could share with you all, the struggles with this car. I have had it most of my life, and what began as a dream became and challenge and a curse. I have had numerous other cool old cars, come and gone, (should have kept some) but the LZ was like a part of the family. I had to move it, store it, haul it across town when my parents moved, to Blanchard Tree's workshop and back.. in some disassembled state or another until I bought a house, with a barn expressly for making the car work. This is the hardest car to work on that I have ever encountered, it drives wonderfully when it works......
  4. That is great, My pop has his navy belt buckle in a block of clear resin, as a paper weight on desk for years that is really neat...
  5. My Great Grandmother was a strong woman who operated this little carryout on Woodville rd, right across from what would become Woodville Mall, now long gone... Yes, Route 51 Im not certain of the cross street , but there was a creek and asparagus growing wild, House belonged to Patriarch, great great grandfather, a pattern maker at the National Malleable Castings co, on Front and Consaul, on the river. The neighborhood Birmingham, built up with a high concentration of Hungarians, who worked in the plant.. This is home of Tony Packo's hot dog, as promoted on tv show MASH.
  6. I confess, I gave it second thought, I found loose pinion nut and never touched my bearing... seems ok... I am not that motivated yet.... see how car does on freeway... cheers and thanks Colin!
  7. The tanks in possibly 42 and up have a redesign, but I suspect can be interchanged...I present 2 tanks on ebay now..see the hump for the sender to rise to full, top of fuel..

  10. hi gang, I'm ready to start working on summer pre trip service-- I am needing a driveshaft center bearing...i've had em, but cannot locate..2 questions... anyone got one to sell me ....and has anyone ever replaced on...I suspect the rubber surround has deteriorated from age and over greased.. thanks jb
  11. yes, perfect- there is a device on the door that creates the resistance, "detent"--I think you could peek in the lower corner with a good light to see...or at least shoot a little solvent / lube pbblaster or such, may free up the mechanism.. I dont really remember how it is configured...those are big heavy doors that most times get service for door sag...maybe something was left off--
  12. Notice the difference from 61 to 67, brass cars gone, lots of big heavy "truck" sized classics....(breathtakingly beautiful) I wonder how many of those early cars are hidden and /lost.
  13. and............ you should add a backup 6 volt pos ground electric pump just ahead of the tank for hot days.... not to run unless you need....say what you will, if you actually drive one of these cars, you will experience vapor lock...
  14. The fuel pump you need has metal cap, and is standard Ford V-8.. repros are off shore and questionable-- look on ebay, You need to rebuild any pump you find at least changing the diaphragm to accept modern fuel, because it will eat the original material... https://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-1934-1935-1936-Ford-Flathead-V8-Fuel-Pump-Assembly-With-Steel-Bowl/164107201862?hash=item26358d2d46:g:P0gAAOSwrppasPwn
