  1. Hi all I have listed an Italian thermomanometre indicateur on eBay. Maybe for fiat alpha Romeo, Bugatti or Isotta. The front is in French so it may be for a French car or Swiss car. Not sure. It works and it’s really cool. I tried to price it in the middle of what motometers seem to be listed for though.i think it’s more unusual than most of what you see. Would be shipped from 97426 link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/134488353540?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=iH9tETKMQuK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=iH9tETKMQuK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  2. Original manual for Stvens Duryea X and XXX good condition, complete 300 shipped in the US email: travellak1@gmail.com
  3. I am looking for a crank handle for my 1921 big six. It’s a femal socket that fits over the male dog on the crank. Has two engagement points. about one inch size hole this is for maintenance - I don’t think o could actually start it that way. 😂
  4. I was concerned that it wasn’t oiling well because of its condition. It was galled. We had a spare trans and used the lay shaft from it and we were able to clean up the babbit well enough to not be a concern. but I wondered what caused it. It could be something unrelated to oiling. Maybe metal got in it, maybe it was run out of oil at some point. I just was looking for input. It sounds like I’m barking up the wrong tree. 😁 the good news is that it’s all fixed and it should actually be drivable now. the bearings were pretty bad and the lay shaft was very hard to turn making it miserable to shift. I have spare parts - the spare box I have is a 22 or 23 and I was able to use the lay shaft and some gears out of it. They were in excellent condition. The main shaft is different so if anyone needs parts let me know.
  5. He switched because he likes the shifting better. I don’t think we can know if it’s oiling the layshaft bearings better or not without looking. The clearance on them may allow a lighter oil to flow more easily and provide better lubrication. That’s what I’m wondering.
  6. I learned something interesting today about our gear boxes. the layshaft bearings are babbit. so, I am reconsidering what oil I want to run in my gear box. I am going to consider some more modern stuff like redline my transmission layshaft bearings were not getting oiled well with 600. So I am wanting to find something thinner that can run into the bearing more easily. maybe we should ask some folks who have other cars with babbit in the rear ends? what do you guys think
  7. There is a hill on a section of the original Lincoln Highway in wyoming called "Ford Defeat Hill". I always assumed it was because alot of times peoples low band was a little out of adjustment and rather than adjust it to get up that hill they would just go in reverse. Fuel supply makes sense too.
  8. Hopefully this is of interest to some of you. There will be lots of great old cars. We will have some of the best motor camp and auto camp collections in the country. House cars, Kozy Kamp trailers.... you have to come if you like this type of stuff.
  9. I’m looking for a crank handle for my car. The crank will be be a female socket shape with two engagement points. It’s about 1” diameter in one way and 1-1/4” the other. It’s about 1-3/8” deep. see photos of crank bolt. let me know if you have anything that might fit. thanks.
  10. all, My friend Nathanael and I have planned a national motor camp event in English indiana for September 13-17 2023 The event will be held on a private farm in rural southern indiana. It is "free" but we ask for a donation to help pay for the toilets and other amenities that we will include. There will also be a silent auction to help Nathanael raise a little more money. We ask that you bring a donation. We will have a live band for saturday night and a potluck. There will also be several auto tours to nearby towns and a nice picnic. The dates are loose and you can arrive early and leave late (within reason) This is a historical event, we ask that you to wear vintage clothes and all the camps are traditional auto camps. Tent trailers, canvas tents, gasoline stoves and lanterns, folding cots, runningboard kithchens... you get the idea. We will have parking for modern cars away from camp and a place for modern tents to hide out of sight. There will be a camping area where campfires are allowed and also an area farther away where camp fires are NOT allowed to protect old tents and trailers from embers. Here is a link to the website so that you can register if you would like to attend, Thanks everyone! https://nationalmotorcamp.wixsite.com/nationalmotorcamp
  11. yes, just buy the 600w oil or steam cylinder oil. You can buy it in 5 gallon buckets.
  12. im depressed that the timing of this didnt work out. I love that car. I would have bought it for sure.
  13. hi terry, just saw this update. Regrettably i purchased a car already. I really would have liked to have that car of yours but I already got a 21 studebaker. unfortunate timing! I went all the way to kansas city for my car so i probably drove right by your house with my trailer. blast Linus
  14. Dave, i was going with a 500 quantity in hopes of buying several years worth of supply to get the cost down. I really would only be needing smaller quantities (maybe 20) but at somewhat regular intervals. If nothing else that I find makes sense maybe we can still try to work together. Its hard to ignore such a good review from west!
  15. I am interested in reproducing a 4" yellow plastic automotive lens in large(ish) quantity. Maybe 500 lenses to start. Does anyone here have a suggestion for a plastic moulding company that does this type of work? Thanks
  16. I do think that the buy and sell could use some fine tuning. It would be nice to have parts and cars separate and it would also be nice to have prewar and post war separate somehow. I know there is alot to cover but sometimes I find myself struggling to get exactly where I want in the buy sell section. I suppose it could just be me and my general stupidity.. I am also not sure I think its needed to have a section for "not mine" cars for sale. Personally I think that any car for sale could be listed in the same subgroup and the person posting it could just say if it is theirs or not. And if they dont say, it would be fairly quick to determine. that being said - go suck eggs annoying guy who doesn't participate.
  17. i bought this kit on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/402936938914?hash=item5dd0e9c1a2:g:BgQAAOSwae9g0LiS note that you will get the right parts but not the ones in the picture.
  18. locally a machinist has been trying to install an overdrive in his 31. IT is not impossible, but it is a massive ammount of work. I think he may have given up and he is one of the more tenacious people I know. Basically he was going to make entirely new torque tubes with offset flanges, jigs, drive shafts etc etc. It is not really worth it. Recently another friend installed high speed R&P in his 26 and he loves it. I was originally planning to put a mitchell unit in my 30 but now I plan to do high speed R&P. Even the mitchell unit was difficult to do. I know two model L cars with mitchell units and one of them was done by mitchell when they still did it. He made new torque tubes for that car and told the owner he would never do it again. L
  19. all, i am looking for intake and exhaust valves for my studebaker big six. Egge had one left and said they were not going to be able to supply more. I am hoping someone has some NOS valves that will fit. I am looking for valves with a 3/8" stem, 6.59" length and 1.875 head. They use a retaining pin instead of collets like newer valves. Toledo T119 valves will fit but toledo some of the toledo valves are two piece and i would like to find one piece valves. Does anyone have anything laying around that might fit? thanks. Linus
  20. Frank, thanks so much for the offer. I have made a deal on a fan that I think will work. I will reach out to you if for some reason it doesnt. Thanks Linus
  21. I really wanted a car with disc wheels when I was hunting. This looks great. I found one big six with disc wheels but it didnt run and was expensive. I was too chicken to buy it even though it would probably have been easy to get running and I know the engine had been rebuilt (but along time ago)
  22. my big six has a remy. I guess that could just mean this example is older or newer than mine. Mine is a 21.
