It turns out it is a relay for the high and low beam headlamps. Perhaps it was added due to too much current going through the headlamp switch?

Yes, still 6 volts. There are 2 relays inside of it. I will trace the wiring and keep you posted.

I am starting a restoration on a low VIN 55 TBird. It has an electrical relay on the driver's side fenderwell that I have never seen on another 55 TBird. Also, as a result, the washer bag is mounted on the passenger side fenderwell in the same location it typically would be on the driver's side. Anyone have an idea what this is for? The car does have a coolant heater that T's into the lower radiator hose, and I thought perhaps it goes with that. Thanks.

This car is an original one owner car purchased new by my 83 year old mother in 1990. It has been her daily summer driver for 28 years, never driven in the winter or snow. It has 63,992 miles on it. Non-turbo engine, manual transmission. It has been well maintained its entire life, everything works, can be driven anywhere. Hankook tires have good tread, date code 2011. No rust. Body has 2 small dings, one on front of the left fender where a grocery cart hit it, and one at the bottom of the rear of the right front fender. Located in Northwest Indiana.
