  1. Where I am two hospitals shut down because the staff got sick. In that situation if you get in a car accident, have an appendicitis, or whatever you get to lay there unattended. I talked to an eye doctor who couldn't take care of someone who got a splinter in their eye chopping wood without safety glasses. In a situation like that eventually the eyeball comes out or the limbs get infected and have to be sawed off in the garage battlefield style without morphine. The police department got so overrun with the virus the city had to shut down because there weren't enough police. Judging from the meat packing plants where the virus sweeps through like the wind the notion of simply letting everything run wild is not a good idea. That said I am not going anywhere I don't have to.
  2. I remember the 50's thru 70's as times when you couldn't buy a good car. Period. The VW type 111 was about the best and it was a clunker. A brand new 62 Belair six didn't drive much different than a 37 except that the motor was much sturdier. In those days when you got behind the wheel of a well kept 1930's Packard it ran, rode, steered, and stopped better than a lot of brand new cars. And they didn't rust out in a year either. So they called 'em classics. Today's OBDII cars are just so much better that comparisons don't make any sense. The little Willys was an exception which had a 100,000 mile guarantee. I don't own any old cars anymore because only a screwball would say they are better than a new car.
  3. Hey thanks for all the help. I don't know how to send someone my e-mail address via this forum. As regards tires pressures does the high pressure also apply to front wheels which have no brakes? I'm concerned because the wheel bearings are a cageless design that is very dainty. The outers are still original. The inners were totalled. The oiler was dripping one drop every three seconds which I thought was excessive. However, Cadillac was specifying 15 to 20 drops per minute for some models which is pretty fast. The car was just swimming in oil - too fast and the motor can run out of oil. This is a customer car and he can't find the manual. He specified 70 psi for the tires and according to my calculations the power pulse from the little Oldsmobile is significantly higher than the Packard Twelve.
  4. What is the correct tire pressure for the Curved Dash Oldsmobile? Also, what is the correct oiler drip rate?
  5. Hi Scott: I had a lenghty experience with a '32 Caddy V-12 touring car. The motor held up into the 1980's. It didn't drive as well as a good Packard, but the use of grease fittings rather than the trouble prone Bijur system kept the chassis in good shape. Because of the eight bladed fan there was always a loud roar from under the hood. As for power, the car didn't have the absolute dead pull torque of the V-16 or Packard V-12 and was not nearly as peppy as a 33 Super Eight Packard. It was a good 50 mph car which if well cared for would go a long way. However, a 1933 Pontiac, or a good Plymouth would run most of those big cars off the road. Period.
