  1. It was fun to try and recreate the 1912 image as best we could!
  2. I don't know if this will help at this point, but I figured it couldn't hurt to upload this image

    Who Owns A Metz?

Jim - Thomas Guilbault just recently posted on the FB group "Metz/Waltham Vehicles - Motorcycle - Orient Bicycle" that he found the motor number on the car he is working on. In his picture it looked like the number had been painted over and was located on the flat area next to what he called the breather cover. In your picture, the cover is black with what look like brass flathead screws. The flat area opposite the magneto above the valves is where it looks like he found the number. I'm not familiar with the air-cooled Metz cars, but I hope this helps. If you are on Facebook (I reluctantly am), you might want to join the FB Group mentioned above. I added your car to my list of cars.
  4. We can only hope that the weather decides to cooperate better in 2024. The show at the Gore Place will be held August 4th, 2024. Please check out the attached flier for information. Hope to see the sun and Orient/Metz/MM owners, builders, buyers and dreamers at the Gore Place! Keep an eye out for any updates on the show and urge anyone you know to come to this event. I'd like to thank Greg Anderson who has done an incredible job working with the Motorhead Car Show, The Waltham Museum, The Gore Place and many car groups to pull this all together.
  5. Plans are being made to hold the show/gathering in the Spring, date to be determined. The weather just wouldn't cooperate this year. The new date will be posted here and on Facebook. Hope to see you when Spring has sprung!
  6. Due to weather concerns the car show at the Gore Place in Waltham has been postponed until Sunday, October 22. Hope you can make plans to get together with other Metz enthusiasts and enjoy better weather.
  7. The Sunday Car Show at Gore Place has been postponed due to weather, but the Metz Day at the Waltham Museum on Saturday September 23 is still a go! Check these links for more info on activities: https://facebook.com/events/s/metz-day-11am-talk-a-historic-/628036682762705/ https://facebook.com/events/s/metz-day-1pm-talk-bob-mcgann-a/6563917686980114/ Still hope to see everyone at Gore Place on October 22 for the car show.
  8. Update Update Update Due to weather, Metz / Waltham / Pre-War Vehicle Show @ Motorheads Car Show Prewar vehicles event has been postponed to October 22nd. Same time same location Gore Place Waltham,Ma. The Waltham Museum events planned for September 23st will go on as planned.
  9. eBay listing 403356942598 shows an earlier Metz 22 with a tire carrier on the back, but it is most likely adapted to fit. It is also not a turtleback. The 1913 Glidden cars were 1914 model cars and pictures show a spare on the turtledeck - see attached picture. I have not seen a model 22 with a tire carrier like that, but that doesn't mean one isn't out there. My 1917 Metz 25 has a tire carrier that is mounted to the frame in the rear of the car and looks to be an option at that time. Sorry not much help, but you could probably find something that would mount a spare in that location.

    Who Owns A Metz?

Hi Pat - Very nice Speedster. I am keeping a list of cars as I come across them, would you happen to know the motor number of this car? I'd like to add it to my list and see if I might have any history on the car.

The last 2 events held at the Gore Place with the Waltham Museum and Motorhead Car Club have been a great time. I hope that more people can bring Orient and/or Metz cars, Orient bicycles, MM and/or Orient motorcycles and even a Metz Aircar if there is one out there.
  14. Realized tonight that I hadn't put any pictures of the Metz days in Waltham. We had really good weather both days and there was much interest in our cars from the car show attendees. I had a great time and met and talked with many people. We were even able to reproduce (as best as we could) a 1912 photo of the Gore Place. The star of the meeting was George King's 1901 Orient, he won the Metz trophy for the show.
  15. Just a reminder that this weekend is the double header at the Gore Place on Saturday the 24th and Sunday the 25th. See details below. Come One, Come All. If you have a Metz related machine, bicycle, motorcycle, airplane, automobile, please bring it out to share. If you can come out on Friday the 23rd, the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation at 154 Moody Street will be open for the day. Trailers may be left at the Gore Place, there is a resident on site, and the Waltham police will be patrolling. Please enter the Gore Place grounds from Gore Street On Saturday the 24th, if you want to display your Metz related machine during the lecture and seminar, please come to the Gore Place early for set up - 7 to 8:00 am. If you can't get there by then, please call Gregg at 508-320-8876 and he will instruct you with what to do. Saturday the 24th the Waltham Museum at 25 Lexington Street will be open for tours at 10:00 am. There is parking across the street, just be sure to pay for parking. Then at 1:00 pm a lecture will take place at the Gore Carriage House, please be there by no later than 12:30 if you plan to display your machine by the Carriage House. At 1:00 the lecture and seminar will be held in the Carriage House. After loading vehicles back on their trailers there will be a meet and greet across the street at John Brewer's Tavern. On Sunday the 25th for the car show we will start to move display vehicles into our prime location starting at 6:00 am. The car show has asked that vehicles be in place by 8:00 am. All pre-World War II vehicles will be parked together with the Waltham Museum and Waltham Historical Society displays. The show ends at 2:30 pm.
  16. While searching for Metz Cars I found a 1917 Touring Car for sale at Classic Auto Mall Inc. in Morgantown, PA. 18. A two day event for the 2022 "Metz Gathering" is being put together for this fall and we hope to build off of the 2021 gathering at the Gore Place. The plan is to have a Waltham Transportation History Seminar on Saturday, September 24 starting at 1:00 in the restored carriage house at the Gore Place, the former Metz Company corporate offices and home for C.H. Metz and his family. There will be a lecture by George King about the rescue and restoration of a 1901 Orient. A display of Waltham built vehicles will be on display and an open question and answer discussion will take place. Discussion to include automobiles, bicycles, motorcycles, steam cars and patents that came from people like Abner Doble, Charles Metz, George Tinker, John Piper, Leonard Gaylord and others. Please feel free to bring memorabilia to display. $20 per person will include a tour of the Gore Place at the conclusion of the lecture. Sunday, September 25 will be the Metz/Waltham Vehicle Reunion in conjunction with the Motorheads Car Show on the Gore Estate grounds. We hope to get many vehicles built in Waltham to participate in this reunion. More information will be coming as the dates get closer. For additional information call 508-320-8876. If you are on Facebook, please join the Metz/Waltham Automobiles - Motorcycle - Orient Bicycle group.
  19. Thank you for the offer, but I don't think I could use them. If you could post a picture that would be helpful. Thanks, Bill
  20. I dug around in my spare parts today and found a spare camshaft with the gear on it. I will dig some more as I think I may have just the gear also. I will sell the gear and camshaft as one if I don't find the gear I think I may have. Removal from the camshaft would be up to the new owner. Please let me know if you are interested. Enjoy, Bill Metz
  21. Just noticing the rear wheels mounted to the axle. How did that get done? I have thought about trying that, but I couldn't imagine how to go about it. Might make for an interesting tow behind. Can you post a picture? Thanks, WC
  22. I have tried several times to reply to this post for Thomas Pruett, here is another attempt. Sorry it is so late in the game. Please contact the Waltham museum at 781-893-9020
  23. I just was updated on the time - it is 7:00 pm. Reservations are being made so PLEASE call (508-320-8876) if you are planning to come for dinner and conversation.
  24. Just a last minute post about this coming weekend. The car show is on Sunday the 26th from 9:00 to 2:30, registration starts at 7:00 am. The Waltham Museum will have a sight set up for the Metz gathering. I have heard that there will be a few bicycles and possibly a motorcycle in attendance this year. I am bringing my 1915 car. Please try to stop in this year and say hello, it would be great to have you bring your Metz/Orient car/bicycle/motorcycle if possible. Saturday September 25th - there is going to be a pay your own way off the menu dinner gathering at the Copper House Tavern on Totten Pond Road. Please contact Greg Anderson through the Metz/Waltham Automobiles - Motorcycles - Bicycles -Air-Car Group on Facebook so he can get a count, or since time is short, just show up at 6:30. I will post any update on the time if that occurs. Hope to see you this weekend
