…that intersection today. Notice the building on the corner is the same in the 1915 pic. What we've lost. -

Could this be from another vantage point in 1930? The street lamp and the landing between the first and second story look the same. -
Can any tire shop do a front end alignment on a '56 Buick?
Frank Tedesco replied to a topic in General Discussion
Hello Buick56Special, I sent you a P.M. -Frank -
Hi Mr Earl, That's Morticia and Uncle Fester in the speedster. I wish I could make the Avatar bigger. The second one is Uncle Fester, Wednesday and Pugsley in a 1907 Renault. I'm a fan of Charles Adams of who illustrated (among many others), the "Creepy and Kooky Adams Family" for the New yorker, that we all know from the original TV show. Charles adams was also a car guy. He died after suffering a heart attack in his car just outside his apartment building. His wife said he was always a car buff "…so it was a nice way to go" yesh!-Frank

Heater core and Heat Control Valve Needed
Frank Tedesco replied to Frank Tedesco's topic in Buick - Buy/Sell
These parts are hard to come by as I expected. Brought my heater core in to a well known local shop and it CAN be re-cored. I found Fusick can re-build the Heat Control Valve. Thanks, Frank -
I don't think the heater core in my 47 Special can be rebuilt, so I'm looking for a replacement, preferably nos or nors Heater core: 1942-1948 inclusive, Group# 8.845, 1949 40 (Special) part# 3126209 I'm looking for a Heat Control Valve also: 1942-1950 inclusive, Group # 9.795, part# 1342540 preferably nos or nors Thank You! Hi everyone, I aquired a cam 1297903, that i would like to keep as a spare. Can someone tell me what it's for? I don't see it in my parts book. It was only described to me as compatible for series 40-50 with mechanical lifters. Wondering if it will work with my 1947 248 c.i. with mechanical lifers and manual trans. Thanks, Frank

I just replace my 6.50x16 tires and decided on the Bias Ply Firestone Deluxe w/ 4" whitewalls. Coker and others had them for $205 ea. + shipping. Summit and others were $205 with free shipping but averaged $9 oversize/weight fee per tire. I wound up ordering them from Collectors Auto Supply at store02.prostores.com paying $207.38 ea. Including shipping. Powder coating the wheels while the tires are off is the way to go since blasting them is included in the price. Yes tires are expensive!

Daily Driver...help me convince my wife
Frank Tedesco replied to Frank Tedesco's topic in Buick - General
Good info here and great stories too. Many points to consider: maintenance, theft, driving conditions, road salt, 6 degree mornings, crazed drivers ( ever driven the Belt Parkway to Brooklyn on a Sunday at 11 p.m...I did and it was not fun!) I've decided to keep the 03' and if I can secure the 56', drive it but with regular insurance. It will have p.s., p.b., Dynaflow but I doubt my wife will drive it. We just replaced my 15 year old Nissan with a new Honda for her. Thank you everyone for your responses, I appreciate them. -Frank -
Daily Driver...help me convince my wife
Frank Tedesco replied to Frank Tedesco's topic in Buick - General
My commute is short, 6 mile ea. way. Starting in Levittown, taking me through secondary roads around the Bethpage golf course into Melville. It's actually a scenic drive, well some of it. I'm sure at some point, I would travel outside of that zone. I drive my 47' everywhere, whether there is traffic or not...even on the Southern State if going to a Cruise Night. Not sure about insurance, if a policy exists for what I want to do. Anyone? I appreciate the responses so far! -Frank -
I'm already the proud owner of a 47' Special 4 dr sedan. It has classic car insurance, so it's only driven for fun. My daily driver is a 03' VW Passat. It's used to commute 12 miles a day. Not driven much on weekends. I have the opportunity to buy a 56 Super 4 dr sedan that's in good shape, but little known history. I would like to sell the VW and make the 56 my daily. Anyone out there "done that"...and regretted it? Or are you glad you did? Have you Taken precautionary measures like undercoating, dual reservoir Master Cylinder? I live in N.Y. On Long Island so winters can be rough. I'm trying to convince my wife who Insists something's got to go...only one classic at a time. Thanks, Frank

Rockyp, Regarding your engine questions. I had a partial rebuild on my 47 Special last winter. The bottom end was determined to be O.K. and oil pressure came up with shims removed. I had the pistons re-rung and valve train rebuilt. I have over 1k trouble free miles since. . I can highly recommend the shop, in Brooklyn N.Y. but not sure where you are. Yes poured bearings are expensive and so is converting the rods to insert. Some later year insert rods are interchangeable but not sure which. If you don't already have a shop manual, I see 48-49 manual uploaded to view on The Old Car Manual Project , great site. I see compression is 118 lbs. Whatever you have, it's more important that the cylinders be within 10% of each other. Hope something I said helps! Good luck.-Frank

...anyone out there use one? I live in N.Y. on Long Island and drive my 47' Special 4dr sedan all winter, weather permitting. I'm interested in the "Pad" type that adheres to the bottom of the oil Pan. I researched and found them here at Titan Engine oil pan heaters, filter heaters and battery warmers. Designed for cars, diesel engines, more effective than block heaters, magnetic heaters. Suitable for Volkswagen vw beetle, Audi, Land Rover, Ford, Chrysler, GM, sized according to engine oil capacity. Do the experts out there have any experience with them? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks,Frank

Wayne, I don't have any experience with a cleaner wax. I have tried other brand/products on my 47 Special and I like the Mothers Pure Carnuba Wax in the red can. It has no synthetic polishers nor cleaners. I get a nice shine and very little paint rub off. I'm not sure how durable it is, as I only wash my car once or twice a year. -Frank
