  1. Alex, I find the people on these forums much warmer and helpful than those at most of the shows. I belong to a national club of one of the more "Prestigious" British marques. It is a very unwelcoming group to new members and now that the older crowd is dying out I do not see many new faces. I also see this company's cars not holding their value as they age, which I think could be due to lack of interest from younger people like you. I am sorry you experienced this kind of treatment. It's sad to say but there are many out there who are not really car enthusiasts, it's just a spitting contest for them and they like to think of themselves as enthusiasts. You just have to weed through those kind of people; you must because we need more like you or we and our cars will not have much of a future to look forward to. Please keep looking for the rest of us.
  2. Steve, "The Coachbuilt Packard" is going to be a must have since it is written by Pfau. There is nothing like getting the information from someone who was there when it happened. Thanks for letting me know!
  3. Hi Bernie, Thanks for the recommendations. They all sound great, especially "Rolling Sculpture".
  4. I have just finished reading this book as suggested by some of you. It was an outstanding read; written by a fellow who was there on the front line. I found it especially interesting to read a first hand account of the reputations of these great cars when they were new. Does anyone have other recommendations for similar books?
  5. I am looking for an original 1976 Triumph TR6 sale brochure; not the little pamphlet size but the full size brochure. Must be excellent to very good condition. Thank you.
  6. Your cat has good taste. I bet he/she would not give a modern car a second look.
  7. Ed, Thank you very much for your most detailed response. The photo I shared was from a friend of mine. The car belonged to his grandparent's. He is going to be very happy to learn the information you have shared. He is an architecture historian so although not having a knowledge of automobiles he can still appreciate what you have shared. Interestingly he has the hood mascot from the car. Again, many thanks!
  8. Thank you both for your responses. Would there have been an outside coach builder for this car or would Pierce-Arrow have done the coach work? Many thanks.
  9. A friend of mine shared this photo with me. It was his family's car. Can someone help in identifying the year and coach builder? Thank you.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

  13. I have loved that movie since childhood. Great to know more about it. Thanks for sharing the information.
  14. $5 million??? Somehow I missed the fellow mentioning that. Now why would someone in their right mind tell that, much less on national television? I think I just answered my own question. All the alcohol in the world could not make me confess such a thing. If nothing else I would believe I was compromising my families safety. Now having said that, I think it is his money and he should enjoy it however he likes.
  15. I would not be comfortable showing this off to the public; perhaps that says something is unhealthy about me but I was raised with a degree of humility about that part of life. What I do find interesting is I do not get the feeling the guy is a car enthusiast. His garage is just that; a garage for him to park his cars.
  16. Matt, This is great! As my Dad wins some battles but is ultimately losing the war with lung cancer I can sincerely appreciate your kind efforts.
  17. Yes, this is as good as it gets.
  18. Terry, The Hispano Suiza is one of my favorite mascots too but without a doubt your story is the best mascot story I have ever read. Thanks for taking the time to share it. The farmer made a very wise decision and is honored by you.
  19. Dan, Thank you for taking the time to post the link to the photos. Photos of these cars seem to show up less and less as time passes.
  20. Terry, Thank your reply. I am going to check out Williams book, keeping in mind I try to make sure what I am looking at is his latest addition. I do not have a specific marque mascot of interest; I like many. This is just a subject I have become interested in as I have been going through some health issues which has lead to me being in more and reading up on some subjects. It keeps me from going crazy or in my case crazier.
  21. West, That sounds like what I am looking. My primary interests are books of stock hood ornaments, especially prewar. I want a book with photos and some history of what make/years featured the ornaments. Thank you.
  22. Gentlemen, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my posting. My primary interests are books of stock hood ornaments, especially prewar. I want a book with photos and some history of what make/years featured the ornaments. How do you feel about your recommendations now that I have given you the details I should have in the first place? Thank you.
  23. West, Thank you for replying to my posting. Is the Williams book include information and not just pictures? Again, thanks.
  24. Can anyone recommend a good detailed book on automobile radiator mascots? I see there are quite a few out there but would like some input before making a purchase. Thank you.
