  1. In earlier years, selling parts for the Reatta was enjoyable and inwardly rewarding; however, now not so much. I will be age 87 in a few months and that, plus medical issues, persuade me that I should close shop. My website was closed down earlier in the month.   2. Waddy - thanks, appreciate your comments. For folks who work with these motors and parts every day the process is fairly easy. However, for folks who do it probably once in a Reatta lifetime I can well understand how this repair work can be a bit perplexing and frustrating. Now that you have "graduated" you are now ready to undertake, with confidence, some new repair and maintenance items that will inevitably show up! Fortunately, there is a good bit of repair and maintenance info that is available. In addition to the Packing List I always include two pages over and above the usual instructions. One page is an interesting, timely, article by Jim Finn relating to the TEVES Mark II ABS and the other includes references to three websites that offer some very good maintenance and repair information. They are www.reattaowner.com (Ronnies website), www.reatta.net, www.reatta.org and certainly this AACA Forum. I believe Barney has referenced several of these earlier in this thread. Kingsley
  3. My installation instructions specifically refer to "8-32 1/4" Hex Head Machine Screws" with, of course, the 8-32 referring to the machine screw thread. The screws that secure the brush holder to the lower housing are 6-40. Also, referring to an earlier thread, from my experience I find it nececessary to remove the rim between only four of the white nylon gear teeth to give ample clearance when re-installing the motor shaft/flange/white gear in the passenger side motor.   4. David - I can speak only for the Tops On Line offering and I am sure that it is a bona fide EZ On replacement top - it is advertised as such on their website. The $1750 Canadian figure, if it includes only the cost of the top and freight seems inordinately high. Per their website, base cost of the Stayfast cloth top with heated rear glass window is $790.00 US. While not specifically addressed in their ad, I am sure that does not include any freight cost. If my recall is correct, EZ On ships by UPS next day to US destinations at a cost of around $35.00 bucks or so and certainly your freight is going to be higher. Suggest you get the specific freight charges from TOL and receive a time frame when the top will be shipped after placement of order. I am not aware of any vendor who maintains an inventory of EZ On tops so each order must be manufactured after the order is placed and, I believe, is treated as a "Special Order". TOL probably will not be aware of any Customs or other fees that you may have to pay when the order arrives. Hopes this helps in making your decision.   5. The Haartz folks addressed only the difference in vinyl material. Initially the material was 4ply; however it has now been changed to just 2 ply for ease of manufacture. They do not measure the thickness but measure by weight with the 2 ply being just slightly lighter. They state no significant variations between the two with respect to tearing of splitting. Sounds like a good question to bounce off of the folks at company Haartz who make/use both of these materials - and I will do that. 17 Minutes later and an email has been addressed to Haartz corporate in Massachusetts questioning physical properties of their Pinpoint Vinyl as made in 1990/1991 and currently as well as same properties of their Stayfast Cloth v. their Pinpoint Vinvl.   7. To add a bit - Several years ago one entity (said to be a South American company) purchased Robbins Tops. Robbins in turn purchased EZ On and following that a California company by the name of GAHH. Now one big family.   8. The EZ On brand of convertible top is by far the most popular replacement top for the Reatta convertible. There are two EZ On distributors who are now selling these tops on the internet. They are www.cabrioworld.com and www.topsonline.com. Cabrio World is a Bill Hirsch operation and is well known in automotive circles. Tops On Line is perhaps not as well known but I have worked with them on one occasion - EZ On did not offer a headliner at that time. The service I received was most acceptable and I am aware of other folks who have used them with similar results. I do not know whether these companies sell any brand other than the EZ On but always specify the EZ On replacement top if ordering.   9. I have exchanged emails with Padgett and, being some 60 miles inland, he feels pretty secure. Having been through 200 mph Camille in Gulfport, MS, back in '69 or so, I really have some concern for the coastal Florida (and northward) folks. As I do not own a Reatta, and the accumulator that I purchased had served itself well for diagnostic purposes, , I spoke with Memo and he was quite willing to take it back. Return shipping by UPS was only $16.32 and they refunded my $185.00 purchase price within three days. Tom - "Like the knob was spinning on the shaft" - the manual control knob is a splined fit on the armature shaft and, addressing this issue only, there is a slight chance that the knob has rounded out. If you think this might be part of the problem, at least in diagnosing the overall problem, I do have new knobs and will be glad to send you one with minimal hurt.   12. Here is the latest. Barmey has previously posted the dimensions of the OE part. Jim Finn has has now confirmed to me some of the imprinted information from one of his OE accumulator and I will refer to these as "OE" part. I am giving the ID of "SUB 1" to the part that I bought in California that is said to work with the TEVES Mar II ABS used on the '88/'90 Reattas. I measure the height of SUB 1 to be .110" greater than the OE part.which is shown as 4.575". A minimal difference and my measurement could be off that much. The diameters are the same, 3.300". Overall figures include a .360" nib at the top than has an 8 MM hex recess in it as well as .550" thread section at the bottom. Both units have BAR 210 legibly imprinted on the side - believe his equates to 3000 PSI and may be the maximum working pressure. OE part is clearly marked .25L. The imprint on SUB 1 is not clear but it does look like .25L. Both units have imprinted info on the side in addition to that mentioned above. The imprint on SUB 1 not not clear but there is marked similarity to that reported for the OE part. Seller says precharge is 1000 PSI. He was not able to tell me where he purchased his stock of SUB 1 but thought it came from Delco. He does have about 25 of them available. Seller's name is ABS Power Brake, Inc. in Orange CA. Note that they also offer a Hydac accumulator for the Reatta for around $150 plus shipping.and he has about 100 of them. My old notes show part number 3055720 but would be wise to check if ordering. 3055720 has been tested in a Reatta and performs well. It is slightly larger than the OE part and it becomes necessary to shim up the cross piece on one side by about 1/4" or so. When visiting the website, note that they have a number of negative reviews. That being said, my purchase was easy, paid with a credit card and was shipped as promised. The business owner, Memo, is the fellow with whom I have been speaking and he appears most knowledgeable.. I have no financial interest whatsoever in identifying this part.   13. Further information should be available later on this evening or tomorrow morning. I am told that the precharge is 1000 PSI and I have asked for a copy of the manufacturer's spec sheet. Vendor says that he has at least 25 of them in inventory and is to check and see if additional available. Also says he regularly sells the Hydac units and is to give me a price quote for them. It is not my intention to be evasive in the way I approach this but just want to know what the full specs of the accumulator so that buyers can make their own judgement as to its compatibility as well as having the vendor's statement that it is compatible with the Reatta's TEVES Mark II system. I was a bit surprised at the calculations that arrived at the $210 total purchase price. Figured that sales tax and UPS shipping would account for the differential over the $185 price; however, "Shipping and Handling" totaled $25.00. Kingsley Reatta Specialty Parts
  14. I am guardedly optimistic that we have an acceptable part. It's physical dimensions are very close to those of the OE part that Barney has previously outlined. Physical size closeness alone is just part of the criteria and we will be checking in the morning to get info as to nitrogen pre-charge, max working pressure etcetera of the part. I am able to cipher "210 BAR" from the imprint on the side but beyond that it is impossible to glean anything. It does have the hex section on the dome and the thread appears to be 14mm.   15. Thanks, appreciate your efforts. UPS should deliver early evening an accumulator that I recently purchased. "Said to" work nicely with the Reatta but I am a bit dubious.as to the proper accommodation. Paid $210 for it with full agreement to take it back if it does not work.   16. In an August 6 thread by "flajunkie" entitled "1990 Brake Issue" (slightly earlier than this thread) post No. 33 by Barney laid out in detail the dimensions of the OE accumulator. The sensitive dimension for the Reatta accumulator is the height which is shown at 4.075" from top to the start of the threads. The threaded section is, if my recall of his drawing is correct, about .5", so you have an overall of 4.575" with this figure being modified (decreased) by the depth of the threads used in the install. Perhaps someone with an OE part can give the net overall actual figure. Barney's post that we referenced has some very good overall accumulator info and one's interest would be well served by looking at it. I do not have the dimensions of the Hydac accumulator immediately available but will see if I can come up with them. It's height is slightly greater than that of the OE but can be easily overcome by shimming up the cross brace at the strut tower point.by about 3/16" Kingsley www.reattapecialtyparts.com
  17. The physical dimensions of the various accumulators that are in play now have been fairly well documented. In terms of volumetric capacities, the OE has a capacity of 15 cubic inches and the Hydac accumulator that has been mentioned here often has a capacity of 20 cubic inches. These figures are imprinted on the side of the accumulator. I may have overlooked it in previous posts but does the one you are now using have a volume figure imprinted on it?   18. That is my NEW DESIGN crank arm on the right and I am rather proud of it. We now CNC machine it from alloy steel billet stock and this allows full contact will the flat sections on the motor shaft.   19. There is a rubber-like bladder inside of the accumulator that separates the nitrogen gas pre-charge at the top from the brake fluid in the bottom. Over time this bladder will leak or rupture and render the accumulator inoperable. Seem to recall that the gas is precharged to a pressure of around 1000 PSI or so but not sure.about this figure. It is normally imprinted on the side of the accumulator. In the early 2015 accumulator exchanges on the Forum an effort was made to repair a ruptured bladder but it was deemed not a acceptable process.and abandoned. When doing comparisons, bear in mind that the OE accumulator has a volume of 15 cubic inches (0.25 liter) and the aftermarket Hydac accumulator sold by Spinningwheels has a volume of 20 cubic inches (0.325 liter).. The latter, of course, involves a slightly higher volume of fluid in operation but the Reatta system has accommodated it nicely.and performs well with it.   23. Nic - moving as I have from New Orleans to California to Texas, I have had occasion to utilize automobile trucking companies and have an idea how they operate. My first recommendation would be to work with carriers who own their trucks as opposed to leasing other trucks and their drivers. The latter seemingly have limited exposure (at least their minds) when it comes to meeting indicated delivery dates etcetera. Some carriers use a mix of both so be sure and make your preferences on the front end and have this included as a condition in any contract paperwork. Always best to get multiple quotes and try to work it down to an apples v. apples comparison - something that is more easily said than done. Not unusual to have to wait a month or so to get pickup from time of engaging services until the carrier arrives for pickup. Be glad to get some quotes for you if you like. Just give me the rundown on the vehicle you wish to ship, the pickup and delivery location and the preferred time for pickup. I was responsible for arranging the transportation of the prototype of the 1990 Reatta convertible from Lafayette, IN to San Diego, CA for restoration and display at the San Diego Automotive Museum. Pickup was probably three weeks from time of order placement but..... glad I was not on the same highway with that 18 wheeler as delivery was very, very prompt!
