Not much more HP but the Torque is great and the V8 sound is also nice, plus I'm gonna love steering the Reatta with that Powe steering boost haha

im in a similar situation.i bought a 92 hp fiero to swap my 160 hp 3800 into but everyone tells me not to.find a 240 hp 3800 supercharged engine instead.

Not a whole lot of info here I didn't know already haha

their main appeal is they are lighter because of the aluminum block.great for fieros but only 35 hp more than the reatta engines.

The Cadillac 4.5L used in the '87 - '92 Allante' and the 4.6L (Northstar) used in the '93 Allante' (and later Cadillacs) are totally different engine designs with no parts interchangeability.

    i see no mention of a 4.6.

That's the big reason I wanna try

Like more power to him for being able to sell those

But I can't afford that, and swapping the whole rear end and buying regular struts would still be more affordability

    and easier to lower.

I believe Daniel said he was going to do this swap also.  Way back when the Reatta was in production, a team was created to look into a Turbo version.  The main problem they encountered was the front wheel drive technology was not up to the demands of the engine.  I doubt that the transmission or the transaxle are going to last very long if you intend to drive the 4.9L V8 to its potential.  Years back someone tried to install a beefier transmission and got into a lot of serious cutting and welding.

i assumed he was using the 4.9 transmission.4.9s are only 200 hp,much less than a sc 3800.ive looked at them for my fiero.

  6. i emailed dorman and they gave me a parts number for a mercedis benz suv?maybe ?that was the right length.anyway it worked great after removing the mb brackets and adding the reatta bracket.

A couple of decades ago, a Buick mechanic told me that the early Reatta, specifically the '88, launched quicker than the actual Series 1 engines. I didn't understand at the time how that could be, but in the intervening years I have played with power improvements a fair bit. I cannot find the specific comparison I was looking for, but the attachment is a comparative power curve for three 3800 engines. In all comparisons I have found, the LN3 has a much quicker torque rise and hence power level off the line so to speak. The peaks are of course lower, but the initial is what you feel. By the way, the 3.33 ratio in 91 is also couple with slightly greater diameter tires so the effective ratio in comparison is 3.25:1. I suspect it was done to better match where the power was produced.

i bought the 2.5 auto fully intending to swap the drivetrain from my wrecked 1989 reatta.67 hp increase.but everyone says don't do it.i can't even find a how to on it.the fieros only getting 20.1 mpg city.and that's mostly 35 mph.the reatta got around 18.i see mount kits for series one engines so i emailed them to see if that would  work for a 1989 3.8.no response.

    2.97 was the standard and only ratio for 1988, 1989, & 1990

3.33 was the standard and only ratio for 1991

There was a 3.06 in a Riviera  and maybe some other similar ratios in other vehicles with the 3800 engine.

I have owned every year but 1988 and the 1991 does not feel any faster accelerating than any other year.

thanks.id like put this transmission into my fiero behind the 2.5 to replace the three speed automatic.i know it bolts to the 2.5 but custom mounts and different axles may be required.

I’m in need of a passenger mirror. if your are glossy I’ll get both of them.

Also I got a 89’. I heard certain year models only fit on those years.

they are faded and never worked electricly.i suspect bad grounds under the carpet.i never needed to move them so i didn't attempt to fix them.
