Hi Philip, great thread. The car looks great!

Could you post the name of the Ossining mechanic you used? Looking at buying a 560SL myself and doing my homework on mechanics in this area.

    Thanks,

    James

If you do use him just mention my name and car.

Excellent link for an amazing hotel but you have to check out Friday. That means a late night drive home after the awards. Why didn't they not extent the special rate for another night so we can check out Saturday??

I got the RM discount for Friday night, Frank. I always try to make it to the Awards dinner. Will drive home Saturday morning.

Fixed the link and my error about the weekend rates:  https://www.hersheylodge.com/qr/E1SHA3LIB6/  Our $289 only extends for the official dates of the show.  Friday and Saturday the park is open and they revert to their standard rates.

Got Friday night at the RM rate. Looking forward to the Awards dinner as a nice finish to the week.

  4. Hi @chas1963. Sent the registration in a couple of weeks ago, Hope you recieved it. Hotel booked also. Looking forward to it.

If I decide to bring a Buick instead of the Mercedes I hope that would be ok? Mercedes 560SL is entered for the Spring Saratoga

Meet the next week. Have to decide which I want to tow back and forth, then drive it on the tour. Did not realize it's that close,

Saratoga will be the 560's first Meet.

    Speed Six.   New Mexico.

My wife wants me to take her to New Mexico in April to travel around and see the sights. Any suggestions? She is a big Georgia O'Keefe fan so i know we will go see her stuff. Too bad the Unser Museum closed down and moved.

  6. I have taken a "mostly all original car" or shall we say unrestored car all the way through the Awards process to a Senior Grand National Award and plan to try again with a new to me car this year. I have never received a complaint from a Judge that it is not restored. If it is good enough for the Award it is going for it will receive it. If the car is good enough that is all that matters. I look forward to trying it again. I now have a fully restored car and a mostly original unrestored car with Senior Grand National Awards. The mostly original car has always exceeded my expectations and it has sometimes been more satisfying than getting the restored car to the same Award level. If the new one does not make it to that same level I am good with that. You can always change class,  then go for HPOF if not happy with the level it ends up at.

Section 1D of past and the current Judges Guidelines say :

    1. Original vehicles not entered in the Historical Preservation of Original Features (HPOF) class or the Driver Participation Class (DPC) will be point judged in the same manner as restored vehicles.

  7. Booked at the Hershey Lodge. Cheaper than the Tru Hotel I had booked through Hilton Honors and also cheaper than where we were last year at the Hampton.

Thanks for the tip in the Speedster. Got right through to reservations and had no problems making the reservation.

  8. Hi I made a mistake on my registration. Thought I had fridays tour in the registration and ended up with 3 indoor parking for Friday. Pressed check out by accident. Do I have to call the National office to clear this to make the needed changes? I knew I messed up once I printed and saw the registration. Senior moment for me. LOL

Thanks I just sent the emails. I really appreciate your quick response and help. Look forward to meeting you and Pete at the Meet.

  9. Hi I made a mistake on my registration. Thought I had fridays tour in the registration category after entering 1 for the garage and then I wanted 2 for the friday tour (boat ride) so Instead I must have entered the indoor parking again and ended up with 3 indoor early show parking for Friday instead. Pressed check out by accident. Do I have to call the National office to clear this to make the needed changes? I knew I messed up once I printed and saw the registration. I left a message for the registrar for the meet Pete Romeo. Waiting for a call back. Seems like I had a Senior moment. LOL

  10. My Dad was a great guy. Not into cars at all. Buicks were his choice of cars until the X Car Skylark he bought for going to work in Manhattan from Brooklyn. It was a POS as was my Moms 1978 Lincoln Mark IV. Went to Mercedes after that. I have a few Buicks and a couple of Mercedes now. I am a Buick and a Mercedes guy now it seems. (Love all cars though) Go figure. LOL. He always told me he had a Horch in Berlin after the war when he was in a DP camp before coming here. (Holocaust survivor) He didn't know or remember what model the Horch was except it was a big 2 door mid 30's one. He used it to go sector to sector in Berlin selling cigarettes, etc. Like I said not a real car guy. He absolutely hated my SCCA/IMSA road racing and said I was crazy and should concentrate on my work and family. He couldn't understand my love of cars and racing since I was a little kid. Miss him a lot.

  11. Was a great sunny, warm mid 60's day for a Sunday cruise with friends.

Our year round Sunday drives. Light turnout due to the Concours events in Florida.

A bunch doing judging and more than a few as entrants in both events.

First drive of 2024 with the 560SL. The trickle charger did its job and it started right up. Did a wonderful

60 plus mile drive and another 25-30 miles shopping for dinner and some fresh gas.

Just at about 1000 (23,6XX) miles now since we bought the car.

Looking forward to some AACA shows this year in HPOF.  Car drives like a dream.

    Just a few photos.

  12.  My favorite racetrack, the Bridgehampton NY race track was closed down in 1993 for the exact same reasons. The rich Hamptonites couldn't wait to see its demise. It is now a golf course that produces more toxins/pollution into the bay and surrounding area than any race track noise would. The Bridge was one of the best tracks in America. Even Stirling Moss said so.

  13. Here are some when the new building just opened and they were still setting up.. This was August 2021 Everyone was very nice and let us explore when they were in the middle of still moving in. All it took was a phone call asking if we could come and visit after finishing up our touring of the covered bridges in Lancaster. They do change the cars  as you can see from the previous post.
