That's a nice looking car at a reasonable price but my only question is what happened to the rest of the back seat?

I specifically asked him if it was leather or vinyl and he said leather. He also said that the tires are radials but I see that John (above) thinks they may be bias ply so who knows. Like I said he's 88 years old. If I call him back I'm going to ask him if he has receipts for the engine and trans rebuilds. He said he paid $56k for the car in 2002. He also said he took it to a classic car repair shop in his area and they totally ripped him off as far as going way over the quoted price for the work they did. He may have over $100k in the car so I can understand why he's saying that he's firm on the $50k selling price....

The 88 year old owner of the Cord just called and we had a nice chat for 25 minutes. He bought it 18 years ago from a guy in Colorado and the engine was not in good shape like the seller said it was so he sent it to a place in Cleveland 75 miles away and spent $20k on a complete rebuild. He also had the trans rebuilt by a guy in the Cord Club in Auburn, IN. He only drives it about 50 miles a year. The radio and wipers don't work but he thinks everything else does. He's firm on the $50k price. A guy from NC drove up there and is interested he said but hasn't made a commitment to buy it yet. The radials on it were there when he bought it so I would put tires on it unless you never go over 30 mph like he does. That's about all I can remember from our conversation for now....

Is there something in the back like a container or at least a hole in case it has "an accident" if you know what I mean?

Semi-automatic transmission? Is that similar to the Chrysler transmission a few years later with the clutch pedal only being used to take off from a stop?

I called the seller and am waiting for him to call me back. So Cords had automatic transmissions in 1937? The ad on Craigslist says automatic so is that a mistake? I didn't think they were perfected until around 1950. Is there anything unique to Cords that I should know? Has anyone here ever owned one? Thanks....

If you're not in a hurry to sell it then start high like $25k. Put it on Hemmings because they usually have a higher caliber of potential buyers than Craigslist, eBay or Facebook Marketplace. Post a couple of dozen pics and a thorough description. The ad costs $99 and runs for 6 months. If it doesn't sell in a month or two drop the price a couple of thousand. You should be able to get $15k easily for it and maybe $20k or more with the right buyer. Good luck....

Bummer about the wrong parts. This 7 minute Waukegan video should take your mind off of those issues. It covers the centennial parade in 1959 with Jack Benny plus a lot of old pics of places like Victory Park, Genesee Street, Louie's, etc. It should bring back some memories of the good old days....

I tried to look up the value on the Hagerty Classic Car Evaluator but the only years to choose from are 1968, 1969 and 1970. Why would that be?

Jack Benny was raised in my hometown of Waukegan, IL. They still have Jack Benny Junior High School there. The sports teams are called the 39ers because Jack always said he was 39 years old no matter how old he was. Here is an old video of various things from Waukegan including the centennial parade from 1959 which Jack was in. There's also a couple of pics of the school in it....

I ran across this ad tonight and the car is only about 3 hours away and it's a lot cheaper and closer than the '37 Cord I was considering in PA. The owner says it runs good and everything works and it has a lot of new parts on it. He said it doesn't have any rust but I was wondering if that looks like bondo on the rocker panels. He's going to send me a few more pics tomorrow. He said he's a little flexible on the price so I was thinking about offering him $12k for it if I go down there on Friday and like what I see. Does anyone see any issues with it? I've always liked the body style of the '57 Ford so maybe this is the one I've been looking for. What do you guys think?
