  1. The Huskers are playing at Wisconsin tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the auction people looked at the Huskers schedule before they scheduled this auction....
  2. Send him a PM with your offer. If he's legitimate he should get back to you because that's a very generous offer in my opinion. Let us know what happens. Good luck....
  3. The paperwork shows the last digit of the serial number as an 8 but the metal plate on the car shows the last digit as a 9. Any idea why?
  4. If you have a '56 DeSoto you might be interested in checking out this item that I recently sold on Ebay.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=310343734875&viewitem=
  5. Some of the old porcelain plates didn't have years on them as shown by this orange Maine plate which I was told is from 1905....
  6. Hi Alexis................Here's a couple of sites for you to check out. I own a Mercury too-a 1961 Monterey convertible. Also, you don't need to call it a Ford Mercury, just a Mercury Meteor because Mercury is the make and Meteor is the model. You should be able to find a lot of info on your car through these two sites and also if you do a search for "1967 Mercury Meteor" on Google. Good luck.... IMOA › International Mercury Owners Association LOVEfords - Ford Mercury Edsel Lincoln Articles, Data, Pictures, and Information
  7. How much is it and where is it located?
  8. That must have been frustrating back then when you had to sit down and write the seller a letter since he didn't include a phone number and then wait a few days for a response....
  9. Can you post some pics and add some more info about the car?
  10. Since you don't want to post a price and want offers I'll go $500....
  11. He may be able to find a dealer to sell them individually for him for a percentage of the sale price but selling all of them together is going to be extremely difficult if not impossible, especially if he's "a bit unrealistic on some of his pricing." The only place I know of that may be interested in selling his collection would be the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois, which isn't exactly in the southeast. Good luck....
  12. Somebody should ask him why he doesn't have the title to it. That's going to be a problem for potential buyers in many different states....
  13. Chula Vista is just south of San Diego. Is there a roster of club members you could look through? Good luck....
  14. Ask the guy to post the parts on this site before he scraps them. I don't know what the engine is worth as scrap but I'm pretty sure it's nowhere near $4K....
  15. When I was 10 my grandparents pulled up in front of our house in a car they had just purchased a few minutes earlier-a '62 Impala SS which was yellow with yellow bucket seats. I thought that it was the coolest car I had ever seen in my life and I think that's when my interest in cars began. My grandfather died in 1966 and my grandmother moved into an apartment the next year. The car was stolen from the parking lot there in 1969 and found a couple days later completely stripped which was obviously devastating to her. I still have the owner's manual from it with all their notes inside. I've never seen another one like it since....
  16. This is an SMS interior in my '61 Mercury. It was replaced in 2004 and still looks great. I've been told that they can match any original color for any make or model and the quality is very good in my opinion....
  17. Hey Tom.............Since you're a Buick guy in the Pittsburgh area I was wondering if you happened to know the late Sidney Aberman. I was told he was a founder of the BCCA (Buick Car Club of America) a few years ago. I got a call in February 2008 (through my ad in Hemmings for old automotive publications) from a guy who was hired to clean out his garage. Sidney's son had a huge dumpster placed in front of the garage and he had told one of his employees to throw everything in it. The guy called me and said there were dozens of boxes of old Buick shop manuals, dealer brochures, owner's manuals, and a LOT more including a box of old PA license plates with almost every year from 1906 through 1958. I told him I would be there the next morning (a 6 hour drive from Louisville) and I ended up filling up the 8 foot bed of my pickup with stuff. Also in the garage were two '41 Buicks-a 4 door convertible and a limo. I ended up with a whole truckload of old Buick items including 15 brand new '54 Buick shop manuals still in their individual boxes, over a dozen huge (each page approx. 15" x 18") '41 Buick prestige brochures and four for the '42 Buick the same size which were all in perfect shape, and dozens more boxes of old Buick items. Anyway, I was wondering if you knew him and also if you knew what happened to his two '41 Buicks. Thanks in advance..............Dave in KY
  18. I live in the Louisville area (Oldham County) and had a '50 Champion which I sold last year to a guy in California. There aren't many in the area. Good luck-you're going to need it....
  19. If a US company would build a car that gets 70 mpg like the Insight (which was built in Japan) does then we would buy it. The PT Cruiser was built in Mexico. Besides the Honda we own a 2005 Explorer, 1995 F-150, 1972 F-350 and 1961 Mercury so we own plenty of US built vehicles, unlike many Americans who don't own ANY so go hassle someone else....
  20. I've been watching the History Channel since I got up at 7:30 this morning. They have had several different specials on all day which all relate to 9-11. On another note, in October 2001 my wife and I bought a new 2002 PT Cruiser. After several months we weren't too happy with it for a number of reasons and were thinking of getting rid of it. I was perusing a PT Cruiser web site one night and saw how to read the data plate regarding when the car was built. You guessed it-the vehicle was built on 9-11-01. That was the last reason I needed and the next week (in August 2002) we traded it straight across for a 2000 Honda Insight (the first hybrid) with less than 6K miles on it which my wife is still driving. I don't know if the car was jinxed or not but if she had been in a serious accident with it I wouldn't have been able to forgive myself.... One more thing... GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
  21. I've always been impressed with these old books and have sold a few of them on Ebay over the years. I have these two running on Ebay now and I thought some of you may want to take a look at them. The DeSoto one is especially impressive in my opinion.... 1956 DeSoto ORIGINAL Colors and Fabrics Book / Firedome / Fireflite / 56 | eBay 1938 Chevrolet ORIGINAL Colors and Fabrics Book / Master / Deluxe / 38 Chevy | eBay
  22. I wish my '49 Buick had one of them. Thanks for posting the picture....
  23. This '57 Plymouth didn't turn out too well after 50 years in an underground vault in Oklahoma, but the little girls did pretty well....
  24. Check out "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" from 1963 if you want to see a lot of old cars plus dozens of famous actors, most of whom are gone now unfortunately....
