1. Just received my renewal form for another year of great newsletters and Buick news. I went online to renew and found that I have to pay tax on the dues. However the paper copy of the membership renewal just says pay the $50 and mail it in. Guess I'll be mailing it in. Is this a glitch in the system because I live in Ohio and the online system doesn't know if I'm ordering merchandise or dues renewal? Anybody have an info of this? I will email BCA office this afternoon to ask but wanted to post here too. Thanks Bill
2. I am not a dealer but have had the full range of experiences test driving cars. From not being allowed to drive the car unless I put a deposit down to being given the car for the weekend to see if my family is comfortable in it on a trip. Most good, but a few not so good. I drive a MINI convertible everyday to work and back. Just turned 45K on the odometer and it's a 2013 Cooper. It is fun to drive and even more fun when I put the top down and go. Just like a big go cart. Mine is an automatic with optional paddle shifting. There is a sport drive button that beefs up the steering and shifting points to make it more fun. The big round speedometer in the center of the dash goes up to 160MPH and really gives a scare to the passengers. My son is 6'4" and is comfortable in either front seat. Like I said, there really isn't a back seat, just a place to put a few packages. When I test drove the Mini the salesperson sat in the back (I don't know how he ever fit) while my wife and I sat in the front. I drove it all around Cleveland before we sat down and crunched the numbers. Price wise my Mini was not expensive in terms of what cars go for now a days. Parts are another story! I do all the repairs and maintenance on it so that isn't really much of an issue for me. I'd be willing to let you drive mine for a test drive but I couldn't part with it for a weekend. I like it that much. My first car I ever bought was my 65 Electra convertible and now I drive one of the smallest convertibles I've ever seen. I think I need to change my avatar photo to show both cars side by side. Bill
3. Thanks for posting. I truly enjoyed the video. So what would the cost be for constructing one of these? I don't even think I could count high enough. 100K ??? More Bill
4. I put in a 3 zone radiant heating system for my sidewalk and apron area outside of my garage. Tek Supply sells a double bubble reflective foil insulation that comes in a 4' x 100' roll that rolls out easily and won't compress under the weight of the concrete. I used in under the slab and zip tied the pex tubing to concrete wire. I run RV antifreeze in a 40 gallon electric hot water tank with a timer and it works great. When I built my house in 2002 the price I got for radiant floor for my basement was $8 per sq ft. I couldn't afford to pay that price nor did I have time to do it myself. So the basement is a bit cold in the winter. Great for brewing lager style beer though.
5. I installed a Scytec car alarm in 2012 that included power door locks, motion detector, door sensors and everything else for my 65 Electra. Everything was great till last fall when I was backing the log splitter in the garage with my tractor and the alarm went crazy. The vibration from the tractor made the darn thing start chirping non-stop. I found the key fob and stopped the alarm. I was unable to set the alarm again that night. I checked the fuses the next day and all was good. Still couldn't get it to work when I was getting everything ready for winter. I have a motion detector in the shop so I wasn't too worried about it this winter. A few days ago I stated looking into it again. I double checked all the fuses (3 of them) checked the wires, checked the siren. Everything checked out OK. The key fob lights up when I press the unlock and lock buttons, but it won't lock the doors or set the alarm. So before I buy another alarm box I decided to change the batteries in the key fob even though they lit up just fine. Inside the remote there are 2 small three volt pancake batteries. I remember I've got a bunch of new batteries from the little votive lights we bought for xmas. Darn....they were way too fat but they were 3 volts. Since only one of the batteries would fit in the holder, I decided to try it with one and see what happens anyway. The darn thing works GREAT now. Go figure !!!! Moral of the story, change the batteries in the remote even if it lights up. and Maybe you'll get lucky by being able to use half the voltage too. I priced the new control box out at less than $40. Not too bad but I didn't want to spend money on remote batteries if I had to buy a new control box. I bought the package of battery votive candles for about 10 bucks and it came with 32 extra batteries. For the techy guys the old batteries were 2016 Lithium / Manganese Dioxide which are 3.0 volts and 90mAh. The ones I had and used were 2032 Lithium / Manganese Dioxide which are 3.0 volts and 240 mAh. The 2032 is exactly a thick as 2 of the 2016's. I understand it's packing more amps but not sure why it works with only half the voltage. But it's been working for a week or so already and I'm happy. thanks for listening
6. I received the survey a day or so ago. Short....Sweet....and to the point. The WOKR site has a members and open forum discussion area. It seems to work very well.
7. Great photos of 'Morning Glory' and your herd. Thanks for sharing! Glad someone is getting some sunshine More snow on the way here too. Had to plow to get out of the driveway today. I'm running out of places to put all the snow. The bird bath will thaw someday. The Old Buick and Ranger haven't seen sunshine for quite a while. Bill
8. Doesn't look like anything I've ever seen on a 65 or 66. Somebody else has one for sale http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-HOODED-BULLET-EXTERIOR-MIRROR-HEAD-CHROME-MIS428-/371244635830?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item566fe796b6&vxp=mtr Bill
9. Here's my story..... I've had my 65 Electra with a 401 since 1973 and I'm on the third engine. The saga...... Bought it in 73 when a junior in HS. The engine blew on Rt 80 (1978) heading west through the Pa. mountains. Had about 135K on it at the time. The number 7 rod broke or came loose and took out a section of the cam. Lots of scrap metal in the oil pan when I took it apart. Bought a 79 Buick Skyhawk till I could find another engine. Found a replacement engine in 1980. Had the car at a bodyshop in 1981 and the guy said it would not start when he tried to move it. I went over to get it started and noticed that it was backed into one of the stalls. So I was suspicious. I think they were out hot rodding it and guess what.....It had a broken #7 rod too and it took out a section of the cam. That engine had less than 100K on it. I was not a happy camper. My old Buick sat in my garage till about 2002 when I acquired a 'new' 401 that had never been installed in a production car (that's another story). I started the long process of fixing and restoring my old car in 2003 or so and it is mostly done. I've got less than 2000 miles on her now. If I really liked the car, I'd pay him $20, tell him he won, and live to drive the old nailhead another day. Bill
10. Saw prices that varied from $1.87 to $2.29 today. The stations that jumped to 2.29 were 1.99 earlier this week. What about OPEC and other countries that want to put it to Russia? Keeping the barrel price below $100 puts the screws on Russia. Politics at its best.
11. Just a few comments: I started my teaching career as a shop teacher in 1978. Did that till 95 when I switched over to Visual Arts (drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, and now add computers). Had a few accidents along the way and wish you both the best of care and luck in healing. The healing process in our hands hurts so much more that other parts of the body, not sure why, but it sure does !!! I switched from shop to art because my administration insisted on having 30 kids in every class. I felt a lot safer with 30 kids in an art class than 30 in my shop class (freshman especially). I live about 40 miles from where I teach. From time to time the kids will take a 'road trip' out to my house to learn some things that we no longer teach at our school. Read an article a few months ago about a man who was hurt using a new table saw that he purchased. He sued the manufacturer after getting hurt because it did NOT have the Saw Stop feature and he got hurt. The court ruled that the manufacturer should only make tools that have the latest and best safety features. I think the saw stop feature adds about $250 to the cost of the saw. Once the Saw Stop is activated, it's time to buy a new saw. The case is now in the Appeals court. Take it slow and let the healing process work. Bill
12. Anyone look at the 1929 Hupp? I saw dual vents, rt gas fill, round step on rt fender. Golf door opens the correct way, Can't find wheels or a dash that looks the same. Bill
13. Willys Knight late 20's? Not sure about the aluminum panels but the edging, windshield shape, rear fenders, wheels, dash and golf door look close. The dual air vents aren't correct though. Bill
14. Maybe try metric flare nut wrenches. Sometimes they fit the hex head better. I had good luck with Kanter until I bought lower ball joints from them. The foreign made crap that they sent was just that. I sent them back, they inspected them and said they were 'within' tolerance. I told them politely to keep them. I put a set of Moog joints on and everything was good. Let the buyer beware. Bill
15. The Crawford Transportation Museum in Cleveland has a few Baker Autos in their collection. Here's an ad that is on display along with a few autos. Bill
16. The newest book I have is a '62 It states 1958 - 62 = 4 1/2 degrees Bill
17. I fell in love with Chandlers many years ago. Sadly, most of them are out of my price range. I started looking for a Chandler / Cleveland project a few years ago and slowly shifted to a Willys Knight (or Falcon) project as my next endeavor. I think the Knight engine is a great machine and would love to learn more about it and restore a classic vehicle. The search goes on........ thanks
18. I don't want to miss this one. I hope there will be some Chandlers and Cleveland auto coming. I posted the info on their forum page. Bill

20. A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and all others who make the forum what it is. I look forward to the advise you offer others and have learned much over the past few years. My best to you and your family. Bill
21. The heater core is removed from under the dash on a '65. Not sure about a '64. I've had to drill out a few bolts after they break of when removing the water pump. Something to take slowly. Good Luck
22. Is this what you're looking for? http://sealproweb.com/teflon%20gasket%20rope.html Good Luck Bill
23. Does the '50 not have a primary shoe? I had a 57 Custom Royal and remember the split wheel cylinder setup and separate adjuster cams for each shoe. I thought I should see the primary shoe with shorter lining on your photo. It wouldn't make it any easier to put the drum on but they sure wouldn't be as touchy. I had that same puller. what a beast but worked like a charm. Good Luck Bill
24. Beautiful car. I love the body lines and the details. thanks for posting the pictures. Bill
25. Do you run ethanol gas in the Netherlands? I have a slight roughness at idle only with my Buick. Had the carb rebuilt by a reputable local shop, check compression, electrical. vacuum, etc. Everything spot on. I blame it on the gas available in our area and live with it.
