  2. Easy .. its a 1928 / 29 Durant bumper medallion used on some model's as decoration on front both sides. This one appears to be for the flat bar type bumper as it hasn't the curved raised backing. Lads on DMAC forum looking for those earlier this year under .. . Re: WANTED: Bumper center "D" medallion. Not sure what you mean keiser31. Most Dort or Gray Dort don't have bumpers and rad crest says Dort in white on blue background, Flint Michigan or Gray Dort in white on blue background, Chatham Ontario.
  3. Yes this is a 1933 Continental Ace or what's left of it. Made July to Dec 1933 vin's 81-1001 to 81-1601. You are partly right but it was 1932. Continental Motors made engines for years and branched out early 1932 with purchase of De Vaux- Hall Motors to make the Continental - De Vaux model 680 (or as called sometimes the De Vaux - Continental) 1933 they made the Beacon and Flyer, and later added the Ace. 1934 only model was the Red Seal (Beacon). which they gave up and went back to making engines only. Durant Motors, De Vaux Motors, Continental Motors and Dominion Motors were very much welded at the hip to one another. The 1931 De Vaux used body and parts of the 1930 Durant. The Hall motor was copied in part from the 22A used in Durant's. 1932 680 De Vaux, 685 Frontenac, and 633 Durant used same Hayes body and fenders. 1933 C-400 Frontenac was basically a Beacon, the C-600 Frontenac a Flyer. Frontenac Ace was not made in Canada but imported. All three were Canadianized with Depress Beam lights and lenses, names and other items. Beacon didn't have a glove box but the C-400 Frontenac did. Last of the Frontenac's had radios as standard equipped radio's which Connies never did. In case you haven't heard of Dominion Motors which most Americans haven't, we continued the Durant at Durant Motors failure early 1931 as an all Canadian car co, to make whatever it wanted. The Frontenac came out Aug 1931 to Dec 1933. Unknown when Durant stopped but likely mid 1932, when the CEO of Dominion declared Durant Motors a long dead co and stopped its production. Reo was also made at Dominion 1932 until Reo cars stopped mid 30's and Reo trucks continued there after.. Last US Durant plant in 1931 was Lansing which stopped Aug 1931.
  4. Barry to confirm your other comment the DeVo had same body as Beacon, Flyer, and 34 Red Seal, the four door sedans have Hayes body plates starting with 185-xxxx. The 1937 mentioned has Hayes body plate 185-3701. Two door sedans have 188-xxx Coupe 189-xxxx Ace four door 181-xxxx Frontenac Ace four doo 191-xxxx
  5. Ha ha seems the son is getting mails from AACA and DMAC members on this water pump for a 1937 De Vo. Durant28 (Mike) that Ace is a 1933 as Frank and I have talked about, as well mentioning it to Daryl, who is also after it. Yes Barry the Red Seal (Beacon) was 1934 only not to ne confused with Continental Red Seal engines used in vehicles and Blue Seal for industrial purposes. My 1934 Conny / De Vaux catalogue seems to agree with yours saying pump used Beacon and Flyer, which of course would include our 1933 Frontenac's C-400 / C-600. Having said that I tried to add a page from one of the Leaside Durant - Frontenac catalogues that has Water Pump Body used on 406, 407, 416, 611, 614, 615, 616, 618, 633 Durant's and E618, E670, 685, C400 and C600 Frontenac's. That would include the US 610, 612, 619 Durant's not made in Canada. Water Pump Cover and other parts also mentioned for other Durant models inc C400 / C600. So the son has lots of choices for a water pump , as he's been informed.
  6. KVP ... the De Vaux was made in Oakland and Grand Rapids. Dec 29 1930 1st De Vaux unfinished car tested by De Vaux and hall themselves Jan 06 1931 1st car completed at Grand Rapids Jan 12 1931 1st car shown at Chicago Motor Show Jan 26 1931 same car at Los Angles Motor Show Mar 24 1931 De Vaux Hall orders 8000 bodies from Hayes April 06 1931 production begins at Grand Rapids April 15 1931 production begins at Oakland Sept 25 1931 production stops at Oakland and never resumed We have 71 1931 675 registered and 4 1932 675's in the DMAC Registry. 6 1932 680's 28 Chrysler .. yes headlights should be Stabalite lights and lenses. Interesting to note the 1933 Continental Ace's all seem to have the 40A Hall engine blocks with Hall name ground off.
  7. Perhaps another way AACA can assist 34Fronty is if members with our cars would themselves send the info requested to add to our Registry. Not sure if our form will attach to the forum .. nope not as pdf.
  8. From what we know today, Myron had 5 De Vaux's and sixth was scrapped. Three restored, one unrestored goes to grandson, the other unrestored going to a family member.
  9. Bill I don't know where you got your info but Durant, De Vaux, Frontenac and Continentals used Hayes body's in Leaside and US. The Canadian 633 Durant, using the 680 De Vaux body (as does the 685 Frontenac), has the Hayes number tag on the outside firewall. The C-400 / C-600 Frontenac has a Hayes medallion. To complete your list 1933 C-400 (4 cyl) used C-400 Continental engine. 1933 C-600 (6cyl) used C-600 Continental engine Ace (6 cyl) was imported and Frontenac name put on it and used 41A Continental engine.
  10. We spend a lot of time and money researching Durant's empire of cars 1921 - 1934 and offshoots. There is so much mis info and fables published 60 / 70's and even in the period errors jump off the pages. Wiki is bad as anyone can put anything there and do. We attempt to supply correct info from back up we have, but some keep blinders on.
  11. Nothing to do with a Frontenac 1931 - 1934. Its plain cap or Swallow 31 / 32 and naked lady 33 / 34 with arms and hair back.
  12. Right on 34Fronty. The Count was long gone and his body's were not used for De Vaux or Continental's. http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/h/hayes/hayes.htm In 1930 Hayes signed a three-year contract to build bodies for the American Austin/Bantam that were designed by deSakhnoffsky, and later made a deal to supply bodies for the 1931-32 DeVaux. Although DeVaux advertisements stated that deSakhnoffsky had designed the cars coachwork, in reality the bodies he designed weren’t actually used. Instead, leftover Hayes-built Durant bodies were supplied to DeVaux with deSakhnoffsky-designed fenders, hood and grill to update them. By the time the DeVaux appeared, deSakhnoffsky had been hired away by Packard’s Edward Macauley, and was in no position to complain. In fact the DeVaux was built in a leased portion of Hayes huge Grand Rapids plant, and the bodies were transported across a second floor bridge that ran over the street that separated the two buildings. DeVaux’s successor, Continental, continued to utilize various leftover Hayes-built bodies. Sad people don't do research before publishing things as gospel. Yes there are Beacon's, Flyers, Ace's, Red Seal, Frontenac C-400, C-600 and Ace's out there.
  13. I hope you found what you are looking for. No our Frontenac never had this abortion and doing a search you might like to refer to C. W. Van Ranst - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia part of says An engineer by trade, Van Ranst developed the overhead valve cylinder heads for the Ford-Frontenac engine fielded by Louis Chevrolet in 1921. Re some of your remarks DeVaux was not 31 - 33 but model 675 1931, Continental - DeVaux 680 1932. 1933 and 1934 were Continental Motors own cars the Flyer, Beacon and later the odd ball Ace 1933. 1934 was Beacon only and end of all auto production in 1934 by Continental. Here we had first the 31 Frontenac E with 22A continental engine. Next was a slightly altered 32 Model E - 670 also 22A, next was the 32 685 with 32A then 1933 we had the C-400 Fronty, and C-600 Fronty with same named engines. Sort of a clone of the Beacon with C400 and Flyer with C600 but Canadianized with things like Depress Beam lights used on all Dominion cars Durant and Frontenac. We had glove boxes US didn't. And unlike the mis informed info being spread for years Dominion stopped production Dec 1933, the 1934 C-400 and C-600 Frontys now had radio's and Pullman seat features. The Frontenac Ace was an import and Frontenac name added to the grill. Also Durant didn't stop 1931 with only Lansing left in US and last model the 619, and production shut down in summer, Dominion continued the 614 / 618 vehicles. I have what seems to be the sole surviving 1932 614 sedan and another member of DMAC in Ont has a coup. You will not find any info on a 633 Durant for 1933 yet two survive a coup and a sedan. None of our cars or Durant Motors ever had overhead valve engine except the first cars model A22 and B22 Durant's. Star had the flat head. Unlike Continental who was out of the pic 1934 Dominion Motors officially ended June 23 1944 when the last section of their factory and the remaining lands was sold to Frigidaire without enough funds left to pay shareholders. They also gave up their Charter as Dominion Motors Limited. That ended the only all Canadian car co since. Hopefully this answers some of your questions. A lot cane be found in DurantCar site by our deceased Canadian DMAC member or DMAC site itself. Two of us have been researching mainly the 30's cars and how each Co was welded to one another, Durant, DeVaux, Continental and Dominion Motors. Lot of similarities between Reo produced at Dominion 32 and later also with Hayes bodies. Only the 633 has a hood very similar to the Reo with doors not louvers. Some Reo's had wood spoke wheels by Motor Wheel Co and the 633 coup does also.
  14. Just came across this. That center part with crown and 3 things on blue is the crest of a 1933 C400 or C600 Canadian built Frontenac by Dominion Motors out of Leaside Ont.
  15. It might be a Durant and some models didn't have that grill work over the rad. Such as the 1929 model 66 or 70. Must be a Micky Mouse perhaps with no bumpers and windshield a lot shorter than Durants have. Rad crest is oval on D's and this one seems pointed at one end and flat on the top
  16. Sorry Jon. I haven't been in here much and this site doesn't send you an email saying someone has replied etc like our DMAC Forum one does. I note you added 621 and 622 carbs but its not believed these cars were ever made. (Thats like the DE-VO mid 30's DeVaux was going to build. Note you don't have that one either but there's speculation one was made and survives in S.A. Most agree it was never off the drawing board.) Didn't say they weren't as none have come out of the woodwork so far. That's like it was a question mark if the Canadian 1933 633 was ever off the drawing board until a coup and sedan were found and they both use J6A's. Photos of the two cars can be seen in DMAC site under Durant then photos then 1933. Its believed 8 were made. You don't list the 611, Canadian 614 31 / 32, 617, 618 nor any of the Frontenac's 1931 E, 1932 670, 1932 685, 1933 C400 or 1933 C600. I know the pic I have of the only known (so far)C600 has a downdraft carb whatever carb that is, perhaps Marvels the Continental's had. Your books seem to miss our Canadian cars. Durant Motors itself was history by end of 1931 having failed May 4 1931. Hence our Dominion Motors June 1931 and DeVaux US also short lived to become Continental Motors. Its all very confusing I can tell you. My 1935 parts catalogue just says W8A for all 22A motors which is all the after 1929 Durant's and Frontenac's 6 cyl. I know it has to be a generic thing as the 1930 614 I owned in the 60's has a U2 carb. Ont DMAC director's 1932 670 Fronty has a J4A as has my 1932 614 Durant. He has parts books that list the 1931 Frontenac E as J4A, Another book that lists J7A for the 1932 Fronty 685. He says "Yet other literature from "Durant Frontenac Motors" Jarvis Street, Toronto. This was the offshoot company selling all the stock left over after Dominion Motors folded 1933. W8A Tillotson carburetor for all 22A engines. This was a later carb and supposedly superseded the previous numbers." Another member here has a 1933 C400 Fronty and he tells me there seems to be a number of these parts catalogues to 1938 all different and some show J4A, J6A and J7A. None show the J5A or parts for the 619 Durant as that was made briefly US only. All our reference books / catalogues are for Leaside (Toronto). I know similar catalogues were floating around the US flogging unsold parts at reduced prices and they would have the 619 and but perhaps not ours ,since Canadian only. You see them on ebay now and then. We know the 633 was built having found two and perhaps a 3rd ,plus the catalogues mentioning parts for the 633's. Norm
  17. Locomobile was Durant as was Dort and of course Star http://www.durantcars.com/basics/history.shtml Durant Star Rugby Flint Locomobile Mason Eagle Princeton Mathis De Vaux Dort Continental Frontenac Another Canadian you missed is Gray Dort made in Chatham Ont. There were hundreds of little Co's that vanished. Perhaps we need another William Durant who founded GM / Chevrolet by buying up car Co's. Chev was the renamed Little Car Co, Billy bought and put that name on it. He almost bought Ford to add to GM and Henry changed his mind at the last second.
  18. Nuts I missed Rugby car which was made in Canada for export at the Durant Motor's plant in Leaside (Toronto)Ont, for mainly England and Australia, but also Brazil and Argentina. Not to be confused with Rugby trucks made US and Canada by Durant Motors at all plants.
  19. How come you Americans always miss Canada ? Durant Motors went bust May 4 1931 so we rounded up the parts and continued the Durant models 614 / 618 June 1931 to end of 1932 and model 633 1933 under Dominion Motors which also produced the Frontenac June 1931 to end of 1933. Then Co faded into history. Continental lasted until end of 1934 and that too faded into history.
  20. I guess it doesn't work in this site like DMAC Forum. Ah it uses a different one of the 4 threads. Yes the bottom rad shell sweep out is a continuation of the Durant line in the US 1931 model 619 and Canadian 618. Also the 1933 Canadain model 633. Other models have the flat shells.
  21. Don't know if I can copy but this is the only known 1933 C600 Frontenac, currently under restoration.
  22. It would seem so but under different owners. From what I am reading the new owners changed the name to Continental in the US. Saw somewhere DeVaux planned to make the Do-Vo but it never got off the paper. So conflicting info once again to what you have added about a proto type. I'm not really into the 33 and 34 cars. Just enough problems trying to understand the Dominion Motors cars 31 - 33. Why updraft carb 33 Durant but downdraft 33 Frontenac ? And yes they built the model 633 Durant in 1933 in Leaside Two are known to exist with a possible of a 3rd of 8 built. That's where US differs, we did build the 614 / 618 Durant 1931 and 32 after Durant failed early 1931. Also our Canadian Frontenac's. Probably as the 33 Fronty is mainly a Continental, versus the 31 / 32 Fronty is a carry over of the US 619 Durant with again, changes. What a mish mash of attempts to keep the Co's afloat and why we say in Durant land there are no two the same. Reach into a box and put that part on vehicle A and reach into that other box and put that on vehicle B. Stick a Rugby crest on one car, and Durant crest on another. Same models / cars.
  23. Its not believed any convertables were made Continental or Canadian Frontenac C400 / C600. The registry doesn't have all the cars surviving but there aren't many. Terry hasn't updated his Manitoba site for sometime now on our cars or new info that comes out of the woodwork on them. Have to remember folks all don't belong to clubs or want their cars known. Theres a C600 four door Fronty sedan under restoration thought to be the only surviving one and bits of another C600 two door sedan body has just came forward, thats joining a C400 owner next year.
  24. Yes I also got a pair of lenses from this fellow for the 32 .I just need something to put one in. I think my pot should be chromed but the 614 had both painted and chromed. All doors chromed after 29. I assume its based on the headlights being the same. There doesn't seem to be much, if any literature, on the Canadian cars built by Dominion Motors after the failure of Durant Motors May 4 1931. I assume all the Canadian 31 / 32 Durant's had chrome lights front and back, and painted type was Durant Motors standard models. There is nothing cut and dried with Durant cars and you rarely find two the same. As far as Mikes 28 model 65 it seems his should be beehive but larger lense and pot, based on DMAC members help. That would explain why the catalogue has that model car with tail light as different.
