People and Their Cars 10

1959 Lincoln Town Car brochure featuring illustrations by Saul Steinberg. Steinberg was a regular artist/cartoonist/illustrator featured in*The New Yorker magazine. *This is a pretty bold move to capture an art styling of this nature to help push the sales of automobiles, but I applaud all risk takers and therefor approve.*

Random street photos from our donation box. *The first is from Saratoga Springs, NY and the Adelphi Hotel. *The others are all unknown locations with maybe the second one being in Providence R.I. Any other guesses? Chicago for the last image?
-
1960 Dodge Police Car brochure cover. *I think this guy is getting a ticket for giving the cops a thumbs up.

The Pop-A-Wheelie car made from a modified 1926 Ford Model T.

Just another day:
Playing medicine ball with your motorcycle.*
Illustration from the October 1928 issue of the Harley Davidson Enthusiast.

Something about this ad from the November 1950 issue of MoToR makes our bladders go wild.

Here we have an interesting choice of artwork for this Panhard comic strip from 1953, explaining (thanks to google translate) the differences between its DYNA air cooled engine and the standard engines found in other cars.*

Look Ma, I can draw!:
We’re not really sure why someone decided to pencil in figures on this 1909 Chalmers business card. *Proto-photoshop at its finest.

Once upon a time there were no cell phones. *From the pages of the Cazy Car Book.

I have to wonder what is the source for this statement.
I think it was just an attempt at a witty photo comment. So....let us clear it up; we do not recommend that anyone visit Tijuana during spring break....or.....ever.

Some pretty cool illustrations from a 1956 Ford catalog. Some of these kind of remind me of Quentin Blake’s work from the Roald Dahl books, especially in those close ups of the hands.*
-
From the epic 1947*Sportsmanlike Driving Series book, The Driver. *

-
From the Automobile Blue Book 1929 - Quebec Section. *These books contain multiple maps, travel routes, and points of interest along the way.

That dude on the end is not nearly scared enough.

People and their cars in Mexico:
Tijuana is a popular place for spring break these days. *We can’t help but wonder what these early international travelers in front of their 1909 Chalmers would think about the city today.
-
The AnyCar. *Derived from 22 different cars with the second variation comprised of 50 different cars. *The man who made these apparently worked on vehicles used in Star Trek, Bewitched, and Bonnie and Clyde. *From the pages of the Crazy Car Book.

If you missed Free Comic Book Day yesterday, here is another comic book related piece of 1986 sales literature from French company Renault. Click here to view the whole piece. The contents present a weird mix of photos and illustrations, which works sometimes but is disjointed when the images are “collaged” together. * I don’t speak French, but following along with the pictures builds a decent enough story.*

In honor of Free Comic Book Day here is a Woody Woodpecker comic produced for Chevrolet in 1954. *Click here to view and read then entire comic.

Selling a Car in 1906:
This letter, dated 1906, was tucked away in one of our recently donated book. *Evidently, this dentist was trying to sell his 1906 Packard Model S because he didn’t have enough time to drive it!
Can anyone else shed light on who Mr. O. A. Albright was?

Motoring thru the Yosemite from 1926. *Above are some photos from the book featuring Teddy Roosevelt among others. Click here for the book in its entirety. Yosemite is a beautiful place and having driven through it before, it is quite an amazing view when you finally reach the top and start the descent into the valley.*
