Diane's 1973 VW Super Beetle breaks 200,000 on Sunday, July 31st, 2005

Well, what do you know, exactly one week after I was driving Diane's '73 Pinto and it turned 20,000 miles (ref: http://photos.aaca.org/showphoto.php?photo=6229&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=2), Diane's trusty and beloved 1973 VW Super Beetle Convertible was on the verge of turning the odometer "all zeroes" once again, to signify 200,000 miles! We had all driven as a family out to the "Great Connecticut Traditional Jazz Festival's 'Antique Auto Parade & Display'" in the car, but me and the kids had to leave early, and took another car, that Diane's brother Rob had driven to the Festival. Diane, her brother, her brother's daughter Alice, and other members of Rob's family (including his wife Marianne and her folks) stayed behind to enjoy the rest of the day at the Festival. Driving home from Moodus (where the Festival is held, at the Sunrise Resort) toward Stony Creek, it was obvious that the odometer was going to turn over along the way. Diane, Rob, and Alice were in the car (Marianne and her folks drove home in another car). They decided to take a scenic road, and the actual 200k mark (or should I say "miles-stone") was set on Summer Hill Road in Madison, CT. Rob took this photo of Diane and Alice posing with the car. Diane took a couple of other shots of the car, plus of the odometer--I'll post a couple of more shots from this momentous event!

Hope you enjoy the photos.

Oh, and here's some info on the Antique Auto parade/display at the Jazz Festival--if you're an antique auto enthusiast living anywhere near south-central Connecticut, you should try to make it--it's a really unique & fun way to spend an antique-auto-related day in the summer: http://members.aol.com/cgextras/JzzFstFlyer.html
