Anyway, my point is that I found a pretty interesting video on YouTube a few days ago that gives some good history on the Aurora, Monogram and Revell plastics companies that built all these great models back in the day. So, if you have a little time on your hands... and I know you do right now, it's really worth a watch. Especially if you were one of those kids that always seemed to have some Testors model paint on your desk, table, T-shirt or fingers. Enjoy:

Most likely will be built as a 40 standard since the only good fenders are from the sedan kit and have plenty of 39 grilles,if anyone is not familiar with the sedan kits they can be made as a 39 but still have the 40 windshield and dash so technically closer to a 40 standard then a 39.

A guy at work gave this one to me and it's going to bring on another build, back in 79 I bought a slightly wrecked 69 Galaxie for the 390 for my 65 so this one is going to be built in the same color yellow with a dark green interior. That got me thinking I need to build a 65 which has been released again in the colors it was when it received the 390 from the 69,it was a robin egg blue with dark blue front sheet metal and primered lower quarter panels. These will be a top priority in the next building season.

Went to the antique car swap meet in Duncan, OK a couple of weeks ago.

Picked up two Pyro model kits for $15. eBay prices are no less than $20 each. For some reason I like the Pyro kits. I can put two or three completed cars on my desk without taking too much room.

The prices for model kits throughout the swap meet were reasonable, thank goodness.

Background- wife and I were at the local Dollar Tree store to pick up some greeting cards and other small things and I was there to check out their Hot Wheels and Matchbox selection. In the process I found some small holiday village buildings priced at $1.25 each and bought four of them with the idea to eventually make something with them. I also found a snow covered Christmas tree to go along with the buildings and some fencing with a wreath on it. So what to do with this stuff…

I decided to use my usual foam board base, cheapo craft paint, glue and some other stuff I had lying around to make a holiday street scene and include some 1/64 vehicles in the layout. So after a week or so of effort, here’s where I am now. It’s not done yet but I’m in the home stretch. The small Christmas trees will be in the fenced in area soon and I have some miniature people to put on the sidewalk. The little trees I made from pipe cleaners wrapped around a pencil point and then painted green. The vehicles are mostly Greenlight and Johnny Lightning 1/64 plus two matchbox cars. The nice thing is this is very budget friendly compared to hobby shop stuff. This stuff keeps me busy and out of trouble 😀.

My ranked list of model car kit manufacturers:

Revell and Monogram seem to be the best. Detail and finished product.

 AMT is next.

Lindberg follows behind. Details aren't so great and sometimes the car body comes in several pieces. I couldn't seem to get that together properly.

	Some observations on other manufacturers:

I always wanted to buy a Hubley metal kit, but they were just a bit expensive. Some people say they are hard to put together. Some finished models I have seen were just beautiful, though.

I love the Pyro 1:32 brass car kits. Small but reasonably detailed. Perfect for placing on your desk without taking too much space.

Pocher 1:8 scale kits have always been too expensive for me. Beautiful but limited choices available. Haven't seen a decently-priced kit for sale in the aftermarket.

I have two Tamiya Ferrari kits and am impressed with their quality. Would buy a few more but the prices are getting expensive.

I'm assuming we can buy and sell on this forum. Does anyone have Pyro kits for sale?

Thanks. This forum is a pleasant alternative to the real restoration stuff.

Some time ago I bought a pretty beat up 61 Lincoln promo. I just completed the restoration which is not perfect but a real improvement. I probably should have taken a couple before photos.I am still looking for a hood ornament. You would be excused for thinking I have a thing for blue Lincolns but I was just building models of cars I either liked or owned.

I am thinking this is the last of the versions that came from the original 62ish kit and I have them all now. The original could be built coupe or convertible and then into the early iron series in the mid 70s in a red convertible and green coupe kits. In the 80s it was made into the ZZ Top car and then in the 90s a chopped top 33,the last was this severely chopped convertible,I have plenty of 60s and 70s parts to fix it.

I grew up in the anthracite coal area of Pennsylvania, in the southern field area near Minersville and Tremont. I’ve been hoping to build a small diorama of the area close to my home where train cars got loaded with coal for shipment to Philadelphia and beyond. Watching the train cars get loaded with coal was our entertainment in a town of less than 600 people.
Looking at what vehicles to use in the diorama the 1/64 Matchbox size is easy to find but train coal cars are not. Next was HO 1/87 scale. Train cars are available as are scale size vehicles to use but they are bigger than the area I want to take up with my diorama layout. So I moved on to N scale 1/160. I had one N scale coal hopper car already and I had found some almost N size construction equipment at a decent price at a local farm toy store.

So I’m going to try some scratch built N scale structures and set the layout size to 15” wide and 10” deep to keep it manageable. I cheated and bought a prebuilt N scale coal loader to help me determine size of vehicles and buildings. I have made a small scratch built shed like the HO one in the picture, the paint is drying as I write this. Just doing that tells me this project is going to take a while…
