I'm thinking about buying a 1948 Lincoln 4-door that has the V-12 swaped for a rebuilt 1949 331CID Cadillac V-8. Trans is the original Lincoln 3-speed. The seller has the V-12 (which is damaged) in a crate which goes with the car. It's an older restoration and really nice cosmetically. What percentage of the value is lost with this swap? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I would guess from a 1/3 to 1/2 of the value without the V12 engine. If the V12 can be rebuilt it would probably be worth $500 to $1000. If the motor number of the V12 matches the number on the car's registration certificate it would be wort the high range.

This car, being a sedan, would probably not increase enough in value to offset the cost of rebuilding/fixing the 12 and un-doing all the "mods" for the Cadillac engine. This conversion was popular in the early 50's. The Lincoln transmissions were subjected to more torque and had to be driven with care.

Hi;Guess would just leave it alone and drive it if you can buy it for an appropriate price! It makes a nice driver preformance is lot better than the V12.The transmission isn't meant for burnouts but driven reasonably will stand up!I have a 54 331 cad in mine stock transmssion.I have a V12 sitting there for rebuild but would never consider putting it back in!!Just keep it in case someone ever buys car and wants it!Good Luck
