Hi guy's,
I drive a 1951 Buick Super series 50, model 52, Riviera sedan. Car has changed to 12 volt system, but have trouble with my starter true his age and worn out pieces in it, can order bij Rockauto.com lost of new pieces for it but must identify the age of my starter. Can you help me please to identify from whta year he is, i think he is not the original from the car but a few years younger. Its a Delco-Remy starter number :1107110 1J5 and there is also a shorter number stamped in it : 131148

Or can someone point me in the right direction where i can checkout the seriel number of my starter. Already a big thank you
Greetz from Belgium, Gunter

Gunter: My parts book shows the part number you give (1107110) is for Buick Super 1951-52, Buick Special 1953. Usually the number on the Delco Remy tag is correct, but sometimes rebuilders may switch tags or frames. However, I have a 1953 Special and this looks the same. Good luck. Joe, BCA 33493

Leif, how do you get the top mount bolt out with the motor still in the car? I want to change the starter drive gear but can not get at that bolt.

I had to pull the starter on my '56 Century last June. It was a challenge, but my 15 year-old son and I teamed up on the top bolt with either an open-end or box end wrench. He was under the car, I was working through the engine compartment. Can't remember who did what, but one of us was able to keep the wrench on the bolt head, the other did the work.
Of course there was no way to measure torque putting it back together, so we did it as tight as we possibly could given the limited access.

Thanks Rick. My wrench is not able to get on the bolt. I ordered a curved one from Sears hoping it would help.
