Hello, Looking for LH drivers power window motor for my 1991 Olds Custom Cruiser. I assume it will be same as Roadmaster and Caprice. I replaced the switch with a NOS version but the window still goes up only a portion at a time. I think it has something to do with the speed switch for the drivers' door. It had been getting stuck before and when I didn't notice that the switch was stuck apparently there is some kind of circuit breaker in the motor that prevents the motor from working until it has had a chance to reset. If anyone knows anything about these motors please let me know. I'm just hoping that a replacement motor will is all that's needed. Thanks, Mitch

new replacement motors are probably available a lot cheaper than one would think. Advanced Auto and NAPA stock many motors.

While I have not had a 91 apart, the last one I worked on was a 89 Lesabre. These motors were less than $40.00 new. As usual for GM , the window regulator was pop rivited to the door frame , and then the motor itself was pop rivited to the window regulator. In both cases It was easy to drill out the rivits which are only aluminum and remove the motor. Then I bought short bolts with nylon lock nuts from the hardware store to put it back together. The thing to watch out for is your inside panel. By 91 the panel may be hoocked to the door frame on the bottom. After releasing the plastic pins that hold the door upholestery on, you lift straight up on the door panel instead of trying to pry out at the bottom.

Good luck

Mitch,
Before you replace the motor, have you looked inside the door? I have had a number of 90's B-bodies and have seen the regulator linkage bind up from dirt and lack of lube, easy to shoot with WD-40 and grease the channels where the regulator wheels run plus oil the pivot points. Another problem is where the felt / rubber insert in the run channels gets displaced and pops out, forcing the glass off-kilter and causing friction. Usually you can manipulate it back in place and soak it with liquid silicone to fix. Both of these problems can cause enough drag to trip the circuit breakers and shut off the motor. Check it out.

Thanks John and Don for good tips. I'm going to take off door panel and see what everything looks like. Then I'm going to clean real good and lube up. I think this may be the answer because the window almost goes totally up before stopping.
