I have a 28 Chrysler model 62. The s/n is LR810H or 748103. I am trying to figure out when it was built. My resurces say that there were 49553 Chryslers built 6/27 to 6/28. The series starting # was 700001 and ending # 761012 which would make 61012. Are some of the numbers date references?
Anybody know?

Jack, the FEDCO numbering system is based on a letter to number code.

There is no date code in the FEDCO number. It is only a coded serial number. The FEDCO serial numbers on the series "62" ran from LW-000-P (81-000-2) to LS-101-C (87-101-1). for cars manufactored in America. I don't know if the Chrysler Historical Data Collection has a date of assembly for each car; however, you might be able to extrapolate roughly the month the car was produced by estimating so many cars per day over so many months. I believe production started in July of 1927 on the new models for 1928. I don't know when production stopped. Your serial # translates to 858104 making it a later manufactured car.

The correct decode is :

WPCHRYSLED
0123456789

Thus LW-000-P to LS-101-C decodes as :
700001 to 761012

The first car built is thus #1 (700001). And total production is 61,012.

Chrysler Historical has no build records for cars built before 1930, and thus it is not possible to determine the built date for any car before 1930. And they have records only for cars built in the United States.
