Wow! I just received the new Wheels (Junior AACA newsletter) today. Kim Miller, and everyone at National that helped, should be congratulated. It was a totally new magazine in layout and content. It was also printed in color.

I enjoyed reading it very much. Thank you guys and gals. Job well done.

Is "Wheels" distributed USPS or E-mail? For those of us who are involved with the younger set in Regions/Chapters, is it
possible to get an E-mail copy we can duplicate for events to
encourage youth to become involved? We have about 4-5 between the ages of 6-15 that regularly come to meetings with parents and only 2 are Junior/Student members.
We provide them with games/coloring/etc age appropriate but it sure would be an asset if we could get an E-mail copy to work with.

Patt,

Wheels is distributed by the US Mail system. I am not sure about an email copy for distribution to non-members. My guess that would be frowned upon because Wheels is the major benefit of Junior AACA membership. But perhaps someone with some authority from National will respond.

At one time it was available on the Junior AACA web site but for reasons previously expressed it was pulled from the Internet. \:\(

Patt, I think you have a great idea.

My family is also very impressed with the new Wheels. (It did not hurt that my daughter was featured in this issue and has written an article that should be in the next issue.)

I think that it would be worth the price of the Junior Membership to have a professionally printed version but it would also be nice to be able to download an issue to print locally to hand out to potential new Junior Members. Maybe they could post issues online a few weeks after the initial mailing to encourage paid memberships but still have (slightly outdated) issues available to pass out at shows.

Matt,

I forgot to mention that your daughter Mayellen was in the Wheels spotlight. I am going to see if National will let me use the story and picture to post on the Junior AACA web site. I have tried many times in the past to get a Spotlight section going but to no avail. Maybe now is the time.

If not, maybe you could send me a different photo of her to post. Hint, Hint!

Are you saying the only way to get a copy of Wheels to use for promoting the Junior program is that "I" sign up as a
member? In that our 25th annual car show is coming up on May 10th and our Region is participating in the Hagerty's Model Car Contest and hope to have a fair number of the 8-14 age group at the show (having participated in the aforementioned) seems a lost cause to be able to reproduce copies to entice new members.
Any suggestions from anyone out there that is interested
in the Youth Program?

Patt,

I do not know what the official policy is concerning the distribution of the Junior AACA newsletter Wheels. I just know that one time, I did post it on the Internet for which you could download it in the html format. I was told not to do that anymore by a previous VP of Youth because it was felt the newsletter was the major benefit of Junior membership. I have not been told that the policy has changed. That is why I made the comments I did.

Probably Monday, Steve or someone from National will respond. They probably wouldn't have an objection to you having a few demonstration copies at your show but I do not any authority in this matter. If there are no posts made by mid-week, I would contact National.

Sorry for the lateness of the response but this has been a busy weekend and was just told of this concern today while attending a meeting at the museum.(it is before Monday!)

Kim, Lynn and I volunteered to take over Wheels after we lost our Editor. This was sort of done on the fly and the only thing we were really concerned about is getting an overdue issue to the kids. We certainly can make copies available electronically and I will pursue that on Monday. Patt, if you wish a hard copy I will get it out to you.

I will bring the idea of posting on the website (member PIN protected, I would think) to Chuck Crane and Tom Cox. This should be for the youth committee or the board to decide. Judy rightly brought up the concern from the past.

Thanks for the kind comments, we think we got a great start to a vastly improved magazine for the kids.

Judy and gang: Please do not wait for an answer on the forum when you have a serious concern. Contact the appropriate director or headquarters directly. As in this weekend, a lot of our directors were at our meet in Tucson and others were busy with other events. Do not assume that we will notice every post on the forum. Thanks!

Speaking for the moderators, we figured you needed a couple of days off, Steve.

You couldn't mail anything out until Monday anyway. ;\) \:\)

I concur. The new Wheels magazine is very well done. It's the best it's ever been.
