Dear all,

I have been doing some reading about ultrasonic parts cleaners. Do any of you have experience with them, and if so, what are your thoughts?

I currently do not have a blasting cabinet or parts cleaner, and I probably need at least one.

Thanks,

Tom

For paint/rust removal or general surface cleaning/renewing you want a blast cabinet. It can be used with a variety of blast media for diffent situations but a medium glass bead will do 95% of what you need. Ultra sonics are good for grease/dirt removal...Bob

I recently purchased a small Ultrasonic cleaner from harbor freight to clean my dash clock and so far it worked real nice. I used clock cleaning solution for the clock mechanism. Cleaned a rusty clock case that was once crome plated with a solution of CLR rust remover. It worked great and took the rust off while leaving the leftover zinc and crome coating.

I'm experimenting with more items. Cleaned spair change and jewelry. Cleaned a dirty air filter with a solution of de-greasers and it is now re-usable.

I'm expect in the future to use it for cleaning things that have cad plateing, zinc, chrome, brass or similar coatings and delicate items like springs and screws that are hard to handle in a blast cabinet. The drawback compared to media blasting is it might take an hour to clean the part, but you don't have to watch it.

Thanks

I have not tried a radiator, but it has been done. I think A radiator would need to be flushed after cleaning. Or set up a pump to run the cleaning solution thru the radiator while it is submerged in the ultrasonic tank. Most radiator shops do not have the expensive equipment yet, but check your area you might get lucky.

This is interesting. I think it does more than clean dirt and grease.
