I just bought a 54 buick two door hard top Roadmaster with 401 or 425 nail head out of a later model buick. The engine code says LT so I thought it was a 401, but two have said it is a 425. It has a double four barrel intake. On the back of the block it reads "1364705." Do I have a 401 or 425?
My next question, is this a rare engine? It is perfect and in great "rebuilt" shape along with the tranny that was factory with it. Number on the front behind the thermostat housing, 5H316918. Someone who knows a great deal about this let me know. I would like to know what I have.
Thanks

65 401 and the engine didn't come with 2-4's but the intake and carbs are rare.

I believe the 'H' is for 1961. In the alphabet, 'A' is for 1954 and 'B' is for 1955 etc...

Is there a way I could find out what car it came out of? Thanks for the help. I will keep you in mind for later info.

LT was the most common nailhead in 65.
It could have come out of a Riv, 'cat or Electra.
The ##s after the "H" are the serial # of the car it came from if that helps any.
Dual quads are nice!
