Steve, Thanks for the update on the use of Credit Cards when registering for a meet.
It is nice to know that this form of payment will be an option for those members who want to use it in the not too distant future.

Being in the IT field myself, I can understand that an undertaking like this involves technical challenges, costs (both developmental & on-going)
and changes to the "back office" systems and procedures.
Bringing all those facets together for something like this at a reasonable cost and timeframe is a challenge.
Glad to hear the AACA is up to that challenge! \:\)

Should be interesting to see the turn-out at the Cumberland Meet. I have been out in that area a few times in May for other car events.
The weather can be a challenge due to it's unpredictability. It can be really beautiful when the weather is nice.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that will be the case for this meet.

As to paying by credit card. Funny you should ask! This was also brought up (again) at our roundtable in Florida and is being now addressed. Sharon Lee gave us our marching orders to get this done immediately. Fortunately, just a week ago we got our new e-commerce site done and finally fixed our software to be capable of taking online payments! We will have this handled by year's end for sure
Steve, not as a complaint, but as an upcoming meet chairman I have a couple of questions for you....

1. If national collects the money for the entry fee, will they handle forwarding all of the registration information to the chairperson of meet registration??

2. If national collects the money for advance order merchandise, banquet reservations, reservations for meet activites, how and when will the money be forwarded to the region that is hosting the meet??

Steve / Guys, please don't think that I'm trying to take a shot at this concept. I firmly believe that online payments and registrations are long overdue, and I'm not against this at all. For a long time I wanted to see this happen, but two months ago (in Philly) my region was selected to host a national meet, and I am slated to be the meet chairman.

Since that time, I have spent a fair amount of time reading the AACA Policies and Procedures manual, and since doing so, I have understood the challenges that national has had to face in implementing the online program for national meet registration.

Please bear in mind that when a person registers for a national meet, the meet registration goes to national, but the money that the host region collects for tours, activities, banquets, merchandise, etc., that money goes towards making the deposits to reserve the banquet facility, show field, administrative costs, renting the shuttle buses, scheduling the tours, judges' breakfast, etc.

The concept is a great concept, and a noble idea, but it'll be difficult for both the national organization and host regions to work through the initial logistics.

For those of you (including me a short time ago) who have wanted to see online payment for meets, it isn't going to be as easy to implement as you think.

Steve, this isn't an effort to put you on the spot as much as to illustrate to everyone else the difficulty that you and the national directors will have to go through to implement the program.

Pat, we will work with each meet to determine the best and easiest manner to get the money sent. Some regions may want it weekly others sooner or later but you will get it and in a timely manner! You will automatically get the information as soon as the person hits the pay button! Money to follow shortly.

You are right Pat there are issues but we will work together to resolve them...no problem to big or small that between us we can resolve!

There will be one less car, as I've sold the one I had registered for one thing. But also I had to bring my truck/trailer to haul a car for a very close friend of mine.

Thursday,April 17th local gas price $3.39 per. gal. at 6pm. Fri. am, same station $3.45 a gal. Fri. at noon $3.49 and Sat 9am $3.51 a gal.Looks like price is going up with the tempature, something smelly about all this. Seriously, if it gets much higher how many will cancel the show?? I must admit Im thinking about it.

Might be a little sticker shock, ($3.39 vs $3.51) but do the math. For me it is about 350 miles to Cumberland. I avg. 15mpg with my Olds or about 23 gal one way. At 3.39/gal that is approx $79; at $3.51/gal that is about $82, $3 one way, or a total of $6 round trip. Is $6 going to stop me from attending a show, I don't think so!!!

Mickey you are so right,10-20 or evan 30 dollers wont stop anyone from going, but I think when you say 50 gal of gas at $3.75/$4.00 a gal. your going to see a lot of us stop and think about it.My main purpose of going to the shows is to meet and talk with frends that have the same intrest as myself. I go to a cruse in every sat. if it dont rain all summer. I also drive to a show almost every Sun. All within a hundred miles of home and most less than fifty. No, they are not national, but they are MOSTLY AACA clubs and have a special class for national winners. I realy dont mean to [censored], but when the local gas station raises the price three times in 24 hr. and hasnt rec. a shipment I smell rip off

Here in PA I believe it is illegal to raise the price more then once a day?

Name brand gas here (89) is 3.60 per gallon and towing I need to use 89 or 93 octane. At 5.2 to 11 miles (pending hills) to the gallon Cumberland won't be to bad however the trip to Canada and Ohio will be expensive.

Ron, thats just what I mean. Round trip to cumberland for me is right at 600 miles at 12 miles per gal. thats 50 gal. Now add the cost of food and lodging and I start to think I can make a lot of local shows for less, and I get just what Im looking for.Good frends and a day to relax. Im registered have my hotel room and the week end off,I plan to make the trip, but Ill come home Sat. instead of Sun. I HOPE I AM WRONG,but I think the gas situation will hurt our club activitys.

An article I read today is predicting $180 a barrel oil, hopefully their wrong but I doubt it.

I play dumb (or maybe its natural) and generally let the wife pay for the gas telling her I don't know how to use the debit card. This way I don't have to estimate the gallons when filling however I think she is catching on. \:\/

[quote=Ron GreenHere in PA I believe it is illegal to raise the price more then once a day? [/quote]

I wish the state of Pennsylvania would tell the local gas retailers about the once a day limit if that is true.

I remember a few times last year that fuel prices here in Eastern Pennsylvania went up twice in less than a 24hr period.
It seems that the most popular times to change the prices were between 7pm and 7am and them again sometime between 7am and 5pm.
Funny how the timing of those increases hits many commuters either on the drive to or from work.

As of this morning, fuel in my area is $3.50/$3.60/$3.80 and Diesel is $4.35.
Kind of expected an increase at the pump this morning since I thought I heard crude oil went up more yesterday.

My trip to Cumberland will be just over 400 miles round trip.
Given the mileage my tow vehicle gets going up/down the mountains between home and Cumberland, I am looking at about $200 in fuel.
If fuel prices rise 10 or even 20 cents per gallon that means an additional $5 or $10 in fuel for the trip. Not close to being enough to cancel my plans to attend.

Charley I agree,10-20 cents a gal. wont stop those that have already registered, but $4.00 agal will make a lot of us that have not already made plans to attend a show say maby next year,or Ill wate till a show is closer.Ron your not fooling the wife, there a lot smarter than they want you to know. Heck, give em back there shoes, let em out of the kitchen and next thing you know they run for office.
